Crimean clubs crossing, Bayern banner ban

750

We’ve been trailing the Ukraine-Russia Joint League plans, which was due to commence early next year, since they were first mooted in 2012.  Political will, met commercial money, and a football desire to put the merger of two large national leagues into the schedule.

Needless to say, these plans are off the agenda, although it’s easy to look back now and see why the political will was so forthcoming.  Note to Westminster, if you want to indulge in a bit of togetherness, put your shoulder behind building a relevant nationwide sporting infrastructure.

Instead of a Joint League, what the football authorities in Russia, Ukraine and Zurich are left with is a bit of a mess.  Crimean clubs, Sevastopli and Tavriya are midway through a season in the Ukrainian Premier League.  Russian minister for Sport, Vitaly Mutko, said, “From the beginning of next season Sevastopol and Tavria wiil join the Russian Premier League”, which will expand to accommodate them.

He told Russian media he had received assurances from Fifa that they would accommodate the change, adding, “We want a friendly relationship with Ukraine and do not want to disrupt their current championship.  When the season finishes in May we will be back in discussions to formulate the way forward.”

The Russian media report that Ukrainian FA are less interested in maintaining friendly relations with their eastern neighbours and have written to Fifa and Uefa asking them to ban Russian football if they take clubs from the Ukrainian FA without permission.  This claim has not been mentioned in the Ukrainian press, or on the Ukraine FA website – despite this being cited as the source in Russia, so it cannot be verified.

Clubs moving between national associations is a common occurrence, happening every year somewhere in the world, but I’m unaware of it happening without the approval of both FAs.  Notwithstanding that, there is zero chance Uefa or Fifa will block this transfer.  Two member clubs are in a problematic situation, they have a league which wants to take them. Uefa will approve.

Conspiracy theorists everywhere were confounded this morning when one of Europe’s most connected clubs, Bayern Munich, were issued with a partial stadium closure for their home Champions League quarter final against Manchester United, after fans displayed an offensive banner against Arsenal in the last round.  Homophobia was their offence of choice.

Seville – The Celtic Movement:

“After the game I asked a policeman the way to the station and he just pointed ahead…walked on to find myself in Porto Bus area…walked back – asked another Policeman and he pointed other way”.

I can honestly say that no Marxist has ever set out to do me harm and equally honestly that many “Sams and Billys” have, simply because I am a Catholic educated Celtic fan.

I know that throughout history most powerful groups/political parties/religions have committed atrocities against those who oppose their world view. I find your “Daily Mail” world view quite nauseating and your selection of historical events to support your point of view narrow in the extreme. You would probably find more like minded delusionists in the American Bible Belt where you and the singing dick could launch tirades against Cuba to a hallelujah chorus of approval.

  3. its no all about t.v income. a club like celtic entering the EPL would most probably see shirt sponsorship go from 5 million per year to 35 million a year, as well as all the other sponsorships increase tenfold with international companies rather than national companies buying the rights to show off their names in and around the stadium, add the demand for seats and pricing hikes and the landscape is transformed.

An EPL move would be worth at least 150 million per year, anyone who seriously think we’d struggle to get to the top of that league needs to think again. Within 3 years we would be competing for C/L place and championship.

EPL clubs know celtic would be a major obstacle and that is why we waste our time thinking its ever going to happen. the only caveat being this: if the arse falls out of the league and they need us, but will it be worth the hassle at that point?

think its more likely we will see several regional super leagues (2 x leagues in north, west, central Europe in the future

TD67′s online persona is cretinous to me. But that is only my opinion. I find him offensive and some of his statements extrememly stupid. But hey ho. He stands by everything he says without fear or favour.

  7. Stephbhoy

Have to disagree CL in three years.

I think of clubs like Newcastle and Villa with very good support and big clubs.

Villa are losing something like £50 million a year to struggle along in 12th place.

Newcastle a huge club with big support haven’t won a thing since 60’s.

Being in Dublin last summer in Avia v Liverpool where we were lucky if we had 12,000 in a 60,000 crowd was a real eye opener for me.

Or being at Liverpool v spuds last year where we were in corporate which probably had

500 Norwegians paying £200 a head for a ticket and some works canteen food NO FREE drink. (My tkt was a prize.)

We are light years behind that IMHO.

    I’m gonna tell ye.

    Again.

This time I suggest you write it down because you forgot it the last time you were given this information.

But, hey, I’m nothing if not full of the milk of human kindness.

It was, as I’ve told you before, your pal Chris Torey (I assume he is a separate person in real life), whom you have claimed as an associate in some of your sign offs. He linked to a speech by Bishop Williamson, noted holocaust denier and Catholic convert, but a supporter of a few of your other causes. You may have missed Chris Torey’s re-appearance on here when I gave out this information a few short weeks ago (should I remind you again in another few weeks?). Chris was “good” enough to be unapologetic about the link and to state that only Paul67 could prevent him expressing such views.

That is the squalid pool in which you are swimming.

BTW, I think you owe macjay an apology for trying to co-opt him to your side. macjay may be wrong on a lot of political issues and be a “reds under the bed” believer, but he has the decency to distance himself from the company you keep.

P.S. The tumbleweed you are hearing is your own thought processes and the vestiges of your decency rolling away.

    Glad to be of help.

Your Kevin Keegan moment last night was of great satisfaction to me. With inept recruiting sergeants like you, I think the stupid “street movements” you extol are not going to be experiencing a clamour to join.

Bet you get more bites on FF. Give my regards to Adolf, Ernst.

  10. stephbhoy

Our current shirt sponsorship deal 2013/2014 is only NOW just over £1.5M per year and runs for 3 years.

    Arsenal’s deal = £30M per year.

    Man City’s deal = £40M per year.

    Man Utd’s deal = £45M per year.

5 Premiership teams have a lesser shirt sponsorship deal than us – as did 2 of the 3 relegated sides last season.

  14. Billy bhoy. No worries. I retract the bullying point.

John o’neill I have to say your post earlier was pretty disappointing. I believe that most of Scotland is effectively institutionally anti catholic and therefore sectarian, the OB act sums up to me why we should be concerned at an independent Scotland. The SNP passed this odious act to outlaw aspects of Catholicism and the police, who are hopelessly institutionally sectarian did what comes naturally and attacks the celtic support.

The open corruption around sevco, media silence etc etc.

    The lost statistics………

    Attacks on Catholic Churches unreported.
