Crimean clubs crossing, Bayern banner ban

750

We’ve been trailing the Ukraine-Russia Joint League plans, which was due to commence early next year, since they were first mooted in 2012.  Political will, met commercial money, and a football desire to put the merger of two large national leagues into the schedule.

Needless to say, these plans are off the agenda, although it’s easy to look back now and see why the political will was so forthcoming.  Note to Westminster, if you want to indulge in a bit of togetherness, put your shoulder behind building a relevant nationwide sporting infrastructure.

Instead of a Joint League, what the football authorities in Russia, Ukraine and Zurich are left with is a bit of a mess.  Crimean clubs, Sevastopli and Tavriya are midway through a season in the Ukrainian Premier League.  Russian minister for Sport, Vitaly Mutko, said, “From the beginning of next season Sevastopol and Tavria wiil join the Russian Premier League”, which will expand to accommodate them.

He told Russian media he had received assurances from Fifa that they would accommodate the change, adding, “We want a friendly relationship with Ukraine and do not want to disrupt their current championship.  When the season finishes in May we will be back in discussions to formulate the way forward.”

The Russian media report that Ukrainian FA are less interested in maintaining friendly relations with their eastern neighbours and have written to Fifa and Uefa asking them to ban Russian football if they take clubs from the Ukrainian FA without permission.  This claim has not been mentioned in the Ukrainian press, or on the Ukraine FA website – despite this being cited as the source in Russia, so it cannot be verified.

Clubs moving between national associations is a common occurrence, happening every year somewhere in the world, but I’m unaware of it happening without the approval of both FAs.  Notwithstanding that, there is zero chance Uefa or Fifa will block this transfer.  Two member clubs are in a problematic situation, they have a league which wants to take them. Uefa will approve.

Conspiracy theorists everywhere were confounded this morning when one of Europe’s most connected clubs, Bayern Munich, were issued with a partial stadium closure for their home Champions League quarter final against Manchester United, after fans displayed an offensive banner against Arsenal in the last round.  Homophobia was their offence of choice.

Seville – The Celtic Movement:

“After the game I asked a policeman the way to the station and he just pointed ahead…walked on to find myself in Porto Bus area…walked back – asked another Policeman and he pointed other way”.

Why vote for Nobody? Because Nobody is the best candidate. Nobody cares. Nobody will keep election promises. Nobody will listen to your concerns. Nobody tells the truth. Nobody will lower your taxes. Nobody will defend your rights. Nobody has all the answers.

Nobody has run for President of the United States in every election since 1964, when journalist Arthur Hoppe first launched a campaign on his behalf. In 1975 comedian Wavy Gravy and Curtis Spangler took up Nobody’s cause, hosting rallies for him across the country as the candidate of the Birthday Party. Their campaign had a serious side, urging that Nobody (or “None of the Above”) should be included as an option on all ballots so that voters wouldn’t be forced to choose between the lesser of two evils. Their campaign continues at nobodyforpresident.org.

Please don’t get me started on Galloway, he is a sanctimonious git. He screams from the rooftops about downtrodden countries being allowed independence from their masters, but decries the Scottish nation the right to do the same. He knew his time was up in Glasgow and decided to make his living in middle England. A man I would not trust to walk my dog. Tosser. IMHO.

  12. ICT, deepest condolences, brothers called tom and Gerry. now that is funny……..was out at the village for lunch today with an Asian mate of mine, the conversation drifted to traditional Scottish foods, I mentioned that my mother made wonderful home made soup and 14 years after her death Nicola, my daughter was mentioning that she could never match it, she used the same ingredients but it was so frustrating that it was never as good as grans so I asked her what was her recipe she said all the usual and added grated carrots with grated potato, what makes you remember the carrot and potato I asked because granny used to peel them before I grated them (Nicola was 12 when her gran died) so your gran had your safety in mind? what size were the tatties I asked knowingly they were massive dad gran had to quarter them …..Nicola is now twenty six and as bright as a button so in my wisdom I suggested that although we may be called tatty munchers (believe it or not we stayed in larkhall at the time) we also had a great love of a certain swede, so why don’t you try that instead ( weird looks all round from Nicola) you don’t know what might turnup …..the penny dropped and now she makes soup , just like her auld gran (who couldn’t grate because of arthritis)……ahmed found this tale very amusing but went on to ask what was in your mothers soup?…..I told him carrots grated, broth mix some form of meat (usually chicken or ham)seasoning and grated turnip, which because she only got it peeled, Nicola thought was potato, for all these years……now as you would expect ahmeds wife makes traditional Asian soups at home for their family spicy and often very aromatic on hearing of the Scottish fayre he says that’s a bouring soup recipe……what made me think of CQN?

The estimate of 4m killed at Auschwitz was that made by the Russian forces who liberated the camp. It was revised downwards very quickly afterwards to 1.1m,which made up the Final Solution death toll of c6m.

Following the release of information after the break-up of The Soviet Union,it is estimated that the total number of non-combatants deliberately and systematically slaughtered in Nazi death camps is closer to 11m.

Your suggestion of 2m would be bad enough, but it is way way wide of the mark. I have no idea why you would repeat those figures because I for one cannot find any corroboration for them.

As my brother and my friends and I set out to watch the European Cup semi-final second leg at Hampden, my younger brother Gerard, who was only 10, was in tears as he pleaded with me to take him. We didn’t have a spare ticket and as we climbed into my friend’s big brother’s car, I looked back and saw Gerard looking out of the window, tears streaming down his face, with a look of utter despair.

I asked the driver if I could bring my wee brother along and he said it was no problem, so back I went and within a minute, Gerard was running out of the house with his Celtic hat and scarf and the biggest, most beautiful smile I have ever seen. Before we drove off, I explained to him that if we couldn’t get him a ticket at Hampden, he’d have to sit in the car and listen to the game on the wireless. He nodded in silent but enthusiastic agreement.

I needn’t have worried. I was able to lift him over the turnstiles and into the Celtic End and we were early enough to find a barrier which he was able to sit on for the 90 minutes.

What a night that was for Gerry’s first ever Celtic match.

Yes but in the context of the debate (where have I heard that phrase before?), Galloway was quoting Sillars’ description of SNP policy.

    —————————

I know – but that didn’t make it any less irritating. To anyone unaware of what he was doing (and there will be many) it just came across as repetitive. I know that was the intention, but not the intended effect. To my mind George won the debate on points. That’s the first time I’ve seen Jim Sillars for a while – has lost much of his vigour.

    NatKnow – Supporting Wee Oscar,

Have to post this……I’m always acutely aware of how little I actually know….I’m basically educated but realise my general knowledge is very little in the grand scheme.

For someone to point out this connection so quickly…..left me serioully impressed. I had to “google” Jeremy Bentham, and came up with this from Wiki.

    ——

Jeremy Bentham (/ˈbɛnθəm/; 15 February [O.S. 4 February] 1748 – 6 June 1832) was a British philosopher, jurist, and social reformer. He is regarded as the founder of modern utilitarianism.

Bentham became a leading theorist in Anglo-American philosophy of law, and a political radical whose ideas influenced the development of welfarism. He advocated individual and economic freedom, the separation of church and state, freedom of expression, equal rights for women, the right to divorce, and the decriminalising of homosexual acts.[1] He called for the abolition of slavery, the abolition of the death penalty, and the abolition of physical punishment, including that of children.[2] He has also become known in recent years as an early advocate of animal rights.[3] Though strongly in favour of the extension of individual legal rights, he opposed the idea of natural law and natural rights, calling them “nonsense upon stilts”.[4]

    ————————————————-

Was in bed by the time you posted last night!

Bentham and his notion of Utilitarianism is bread and butter stuff to anyone who completed a course in Western political philosophy – so please don’t think I’m particularly well-read! His ideas were taken up with great enthusiasm by J.S.Mill who I think was a great political philosopher. I think it was Bentham whose head was mummified and kept after he died and was on display at UCL. Don’t know if it’s still there!

Bentham’s idea that humans being due “natural” rights is nonsense is, of course, still very relevant today. We hear a lot about people’s rights and there is a general view that just being a human being somehow guarantees these rights. Bentham’s point wasn’t that people shouldn’t have rights but rather that rights need to be conferred and upheld by the law – i.e. they are man-made rather than natural.

  26. Aaah Benthamite Utilitarianism….. draws me back to Higher History 1985-86 like the whiff of Bisto to a casserole.

The 4 mil figure was official Simon Wiesenal, who incidently has been proven a liar, and was in the the Holohoax total of of 6 mil. This 6 mil figure has magical properties to Zionists and was even mentioned in 1919 after the Great War. Since 1989 and Poland’s independence from Russia, although that will change soon enough, the figure was revised in increments down to circa 250,000, however the 6 mil total never seems to be revised. As I tell you 6 mill means a lot to them.

Even that big fat dutchman Herman Goering said at Nuremberg ” $ mil ? you must be joking.” They were joking cos now its 6mil.

Simon Wiesenthal may well have repeated the figure, but I maintain that it was first used by the Russians in May 1945.

I’m pretty sure it was in Berlin: The Downfall. I’ve still got it somewhere,so I’ll check.

I genuinely couldn’t find any reference to 250,000 deaths at Auschwitz, nor to a total of 2m overall, though reading your post again,I understand that you were extrapolating the figure down comparatively.

As for reading,I probably don’t do enough. And it is probably too diverse to be authoritative on any subject. But if there were approximately 9m Jews in Europe prior to the war and only 3m afterwards,I think Occam’s Razor may apply.
