Crimean clubs crossing, Bayern banner ban

750

We’ve been trailing the Ukraine-Russia Joint League plans, which was due to commence early next year, since they were first mooted in 2012.  Political will, met commercial money, and a football desire to put the merger of two large national leagues into the schedule.

Needless to say, these plans are off the agenda, although it’s easy to look back now and see why the political will was so forthcoming.  Note to Westminster, if you want to indulge in a bit of togetherness, put your shoulder behind building a relevant nationwide sporting infrastructure.

Instead of a Joint League, what the football authorities in Russia, Ukraine and Zurich are left with is a bit of a mess.  Crimean clubs, Sevastopli and Tavriya are midway through a season in the Ukrainian Premier League.  Russian minister for Sport, Vitaly Mutko, said, “From the beginning of next season Sevastopol and Tavria wiil join the Russian Premier League”, which will expand to accommodate them.

He told Russian media he had received assurances from Fifa that they would accommodate the change, adding, “We want a friendly relationship with Ukraine and do not want to disrupt their current championship.  When the season finishes in May we will be back in discussions to formulate the way forward.”

The Russian media report that Ukrainian FA are less interested in maintaining friendly relations with their eastern neighbours and have written to Fifa and Uefa asking them to ban Russian football if they take clubs from the Ukrainian FA without permission.  This claim has not been mentioned in the Ukrainian press, or on the Ukraine FA website – despite this being cited as the source in Russia, so it cannot be verified.

Clubs moving between national associations is a common occurrence, happening every year somewhere in the world, but I’m unaware of it happening without the approval of both FAs.  Notwithstanding that, there is zero chance Uefa or Fifa will block this transfer.  Two member clubs are in a problematic situation, they have a league which wants to take them. Uefa will approve.

Conspiracy theorists everywhere were confounded this morning when one of Europe’s most connected clubs, Bayern Munich, were issued with a partial stadium closure for their home Champions League quarter final against Manchester United, after fans displayed an offensive banner against Arsenal in the last round.  Homophobia was their offence of choice.

Seville – The Celtic Movement:

“After the game I asked a policeman the way to the station and he just pointed ahead…walked on to find myself in Porto Bus area…walked back – asked another Policeman and he pointed other way”.

No need for childish insults. I have only just returned to the blog, like you.

You talked – without evidence – of “Marxists” doing terrible things to the Church and to Jews.

If you don’t know anything about the Church’s attacks throughout its history on socialists, communists, Marxists, then you haven’t studied much history. Look at Spanish history, look at Italian history post-1945, for instance.

As for treatment of the Jews, even you must have heard of the persecution of the Jews for centuries by Christians, including the Catholic Church. As late as WWII the Church, e.g. in France, played a shameful role in the persecution of Jews. To its credit, the Catholic Church in France later apologised for this.

Oh, but you’ve gone now. Come back and insult me some other time.

Can’t stand Neville as a man,and have had the misfortune to meet him.

    He knows his football though.

I reckon Celtic ‘s current squad would be similar to Villa or Stoke in the EPL.

Between 8th and 12th would be a fair assessment.

It’s all hypothetical though as Celtic would have a top 4 squad if we were ever granted access to the pot of gold from there.

  10. Evening,

I note with interest that Massimo Cellino has been disqualified from taking over Leeds by the Football League’s board.

He was convicted of tax offences in Italy and subsequently failed the criteria under the league’s owners and directors test.

  12. Awenaw….

I watch a lot of EPL,and occasionally Championship football and there definitely is not much difference in quality from around 8th in EPL to 6th in Championship.Celtic would be in this group and beat most of these teams at home, even with our current squad.

Current squad would get seriously battered by any of top 4 home or away.

It wouldn’t be about the current squad though if we ever get there.

Supersutton-Justafan– it frustrates me when we don’t pass the ball in front of a team mate.If it goes straight,it is usually met with a touch which stops the ball stone dead,we have played a couple of times what i would call a progressive attacking game,v Hearts and Murderwell (back to back games i think).First time, one touch passing. We are a far better team to watch when we move the ball quicker IMO.

And for all the persecution the Catholic Church has suffered from various totalitarian regimes over the years the real and lasting damage has been done by the hierarchy covering up various forms of abuse aided and abetted by the unquestioning, hyper obedient, obsequious among the faithful.

We would be a poor man’s Arsenal if we were to move to England. The EPL top 5 I don’t rate as high as the Spanish top 5 but higher than the Germans, Italian and French league under that top 5.

As you say ..hypothetical …but when guys like Ledley, Hooper, Marshall, Wanyama are bought by clubs below the top 8 then you have to ask why ?

Thanks for your comments but I didn’t consider I was being selective on the polls. However I will in future provide whatever poll is available.

I take exception to the bullying comment as this is not my style. Maybe like many others a wee bit emotional, but never bullying

    —————————————————–

No need – I already posted a link to all the polls conducted by agencies since January 2012 earlier. Twice in fact. Here they are again along with my original comment to you following :

    http://ukpollingreport.co.uk/scottish-independence-referendum

In the polls above you will note that Panelbase surveys in October and then November 2013 had Yes vote as only -8 and -9. Yet one week later, polls by Progressive and IPSOS have Yes at -29 and -23 respectively.

Point I’m making is that the poll results fluctuate based on any number of factors. One interesting one would be who is paying for the poll and how the questions are worded.

  20. TET

Agree – as I originally posted FF maybe as a 2 year project on bench (maybe even loaned out in Spain).

However my thoughts were slightly swayed following your VG link to the ‘Swiss Rambler’ blog this morning (re: income .v. debt/ signings/ assets). He quoted Barca Opinion that their signings (in the immediate future) would be on players capable of going straight into the team or at no-cost via the Academy. Too many high-fees had been spent (past 5 years) on non-Spanish players in the hope that they would fit in.

You are on the door-step – the SR suggests that below AM to Villarreal every other team needs to sell players to reduce their debt (in most cases bank/ taxman driven).

Just a thought – but would Barca not be more likely to go for an up-and-coming available young Spaniard (in La Liga) rather than FF?

As for Barca signing a young Spanish keeper, I reckon they would do that preferably, but there is no one of the age that is a patch on the big fella, he also has CL footy under his belt, and he has shown to their cost that he can perform at that level.

Some on here tell us that Scotland is a ‘sectarian shit*hole’ yet few people in Scotland are interested in the faith of others.

That is not a litmus test for sectarianism. Many people are deeply uninterested in your politics too. But if they find out and disapprove….

When asked to give an example of a country which has no bigotry in it, they cannot answer. That’s because there isn’t one.

They do not answer rather than cannot answer. Of course bigotry exists everywhere including Scotland and Ireland. We live here and should be concerned with ours and not giving it a pass based on the absence of perfection

Many on CQN promote Socialism. Outwith CQN, the aforementioned Ally McCoist output would be more popular to most working class people.

    Blatantly and bizarrely untrue.

Nobody votes for them. The Monster Raving Loony Party is often preferred by the working class.

Blatantly and bizarrely untrue. How could an intelligent person come close to believing this enough to commit it to print?
