CSA will not be alone in boycott call

982

Celtic Quick News fully supports the decision by the Supporters’ Association Executive Committee to ask an Emergency Delegates Meeting to vote on whether to selectively boycott clubs which vote for a Newco to be admitted directly into the SPL next season.

We discussed the idea of a boycott on this basis towards the end of last season.  It appears the only appropriate action if our ‘sport’ can be subjugated for financial ends.

I am sure Celtic fans will not be the only ones considering a boycott.  If Newco gains access to the SPL next season there is likely to be a schism between supporters of clubs who opposed the move and those clubs who vote for Newco, despite the wishes of their own supporters.

Kilmarnock might be able to look forward to lower costs for stewarding and turnstile operators, from their own support as well as others.  Still, they would be able to open more than one stand when Newco visit.

What a great five days Walter Smith had.  His attempts to buy assets from Rangers administrators failed, sigh, but he managed to undermine the guys trying to sell tickets to Ibrox next season, so it wasn’t a complete waste of time.  Legned.

Or will it come out of the the creditor’s pot.

I am assuming it’s nothing to do with Chico-G for the moment (what does he need players for?).

My reason for disagreeing with the CSA is they appear to be wanting to close the stable door too late.

My reason for agreeing with them is, the clubs are making calculations on loss of earnings counting two home games against extinct fc, most don’t get two home games, but they’re happy to count it to make the losses look bigger. IMO the threat of bhoycott makes them reconsider the lies they are feeding thier own supporters, when they consult their supporters as some have promised, their supporters now have a comeback on offered loss of earnings and the implication of such a bhoycott will have on their projections.

Me, I’d prefer we concentrate on our own board and their plans to recover money lost through cheating, a bit like HMRC are doing to extinct fc,we should be preparing similar actions against the sfa & spl.

We will not be offered any info by the board so EGM needs to be convened to determine their agenda.

  3. I totally support the Supporters Association.I hope that the statement they release, should the vote be in favour of boycott,is non-threatening but declaratory, precise in its language and reluctant in tone.

Anything which could be interpreted as aggressive will be spun in the MSM as blackmail, holding a gun to other Chairmens heads etc.

Ideally CSAs statement should be released jointly with similar statements from all other clubs whose fans share similar views.

Interesting stuff. As is the point made in the comments section – is Ogilvie playing the ‘deep throat’ role and plea-bargaining – only plausible reason for him remaining in position.

  6. I still cannot understand how clubs who have all been cheated out of money by them are seriously deliberating on whether to cross the only SuperPower left in Scottish football by voting a newco…how will a mass boycott by their own fans equalled to our own targetting of the “yes” clubs be of financial benefit to these clubs…are the defunct huns such a massive club that they dwarf us in stature? Celtic need to throw down an ultimatum, us or them:

You choose them over Celtic and the rest of Scottish football and you will suffer the consequences.

  7. Cadizzy,

I was at that game could not get in the Cetic end had to go into the Siclair Street end. The shed was packed. – John McNeil scored for Morton.

I attended with a certain Iain Blair now of SPL fame.

That night was his 18th brithday and he had a party and hammered it in to all the Celtic fans, I can hear the shouts of Hun – far from it – Morton man to the core.

I also went to a Morton v Rangers game about that time when Sandy Jardine got Bobby Thomson sent off claiming to have been head butted. Big Thommo was raging, not because he was sent off but because he missed him.

    Jardine once a cheat …….

    Seville67

  8. Paul67 – you make a good point, but I find myself in agreement with the sentiments expressed by Celtic Mac, Italiabhoy and Hamiltontim.

I live in Cardiff, I only go to Celtic home games or away European ties, I can easily shout for a bhoycott of away games but I feel it would be hypocritical of me as I’m giving nothing up. Will I still watch the games on SKY and ESPN ? Why not a call for a bhoycott of the broadcasters who may seek to renegotiate terms on an already underpriced contract ?

I also feel that the tone of the CSA statement, whilst well intentioned, is not far away from that of the RFFF and Sandy Jardine’s threats against anyone who does not support ” the people ”

Blantyrekev hits the nail on the head, Scottish football has suffered at the hands of a bully for too long, but the bully has been deposed and put on it’s backside, we don’t need to become the next bully. A more equitable sharing of TV rights and sponsorship would be a start. I recall the decision to charge a handling fee for away tickets was an “old firm” decision, it’s time that was scrapped too, we are only punishing our own supporters as clubs increase ticket prices to compensate.

Celtic have the chance to show genuine leadership here and to save Scottish football. Do we really want an unchallenged 20 in a row.

  9. Don’t buy the “deep throat” thing.

It suggests that Regan and other secret service members are keen to root out the criminals and bring them to justice.

Not quite how it looks to me !

Therefore, for me it follows that CO is still there simply because he wants to be. Such is the hun mentality, and he was nominated and put in place for the very events that are taking place.

  10. With certain clubs, mainly Murderwell & Killie, there has to be a deeper “cultural” motive for their support of newcohuns…it makes no financial or any other sense as far as I can see.

  11. There has been too much deep throat going on in Scottish football for too long…amongst a dirty band of masonic brothers…no more deep throat!

  12. I’m definitely boycotting all Celtic’s away games next season.

In fact, I’m boycotting the homes ones too!!!

Mind you, if I didn’t live in Oz, I might be persuaded to change my mind.

  13. I agree with the position adopted by the CSA but I am concerned about the tactics, and the timing.

It looks a bit “bully boy” to me to say “vote yes and we’re never visiting your ground or watching the game on telly”. This is, whether we like it or not, a difficult decision for directors of clubs which, by and large, are not doing well at all financially. I can imagine directors of, say St Johnstone, seeing this as an opportunity to present the debate to their own fans in terms of “Celtic wanting to kick Rangers out of the league and threatening all and sundry” versus some fudge that punishes Rangers but allows them to keep their revenue streams from Rangers largely intact, it might make it easier for them to vote yes? Surely?

Would a softly softly approach work better?

  14. Dead and Loving it on

Biggest “cultural” motive must come from Hearts, yet they seem at least to be in the no camp

Morton fans have no love for Jardine though, in saying that, I can’t imagine why anyone else would either.

Scotland’s automatic right back? Aye right!

You’d like to think that they took advantage of the fact that Daniel Fergus could play right or left….but more likely they just took advantage

  17. At present i think its 4-3 yes with 5 to decide. No one really knows for sure, and other than oldco & killie voting yes, we won’t know until the meeting (should it take place)

  18. “Deep Throat” is the title of Paul Baxendale Walker’s new porn film set in the greasy holes of power within Scottish football…it explores the cracks in the system & uses the orgy as a metaphor to answer the question: who shafted the game?

  19. Incidentally (and long off topic) but it is high time Celtic produced a DVD on the career and life of Danny McGrain.

I went to Cappielow when Kelly was the Lord Provost. He turned up in the Roller with the G0 number plate. The chauffeur stayed in the car during the game, which was unnecessary as several local entrepreneurial urchins would have ‘looked after’ the Corporation motor for a small fee.

I totally agree – all this talk about rangers this rangers that, what they’re gonna do next etc, their deed….D E E D, I think it’s quite disrespectful of the MSM to keep talking about them as if they are still alive and here with us, which clearly they’re not – are they all in denial or what, get over it, there deed. As has already been discussed on here Charlie Green is trying to create what is effectively a tribute band that may look and sound like rangers, but it’s not rangers cause they’re deed,

and the SFA / SPL are even worse carrying on as if liquidation was just a head cold that any day now they are going to shrug off, well they’re not – there DEED, mind you if it’s more punishment for them we’re talking about I’m prepared to go along with it for a wee while longer.

you could not have trusted said urchins since Morton would open the gates at half time and said urchins would come in for the second half

  27. The SPL Clubs (including our own) have with the newco issue a decision to make that will have far reaching consequences, IF the respective Clubs do not take into consideration the feelings of their own support on this issue, then the financial argument about thems not being in the SPL resulting in a significant loss of revenue (which I dont believe) becomes a moot point, the supporters will vote with their feet and their wallets, thems not being in the SPL should be the least of the respective Clubs concerns, their greatest concern IF they do not heed the opinion of their support is how they will be able to attract the disenchanted back to the game, lets be clear this IS about more than thems, the coming weeks will show if indeed the baw is burst or not.

thems are dead, it would be extremely foolhardy of some chairmen if they chose to place their own Club in the same position.

  28. I can understand the bully interpretation of CSA’s statement & reservations for such an approach…but we have to ask ourselves WHY some clubs, even whilst patently damaging themselves, still support the hun in whatever mutant guise they reappear?

I’m sure many of us are more than a little cynical in this regard.

There is a rotten element remnant in our game that wants to realign itself with the very core of that rottenness as expediently as possible.

  30. I’m not convinced that the CSA tactic is a particularly clever one. Other clubs, and the fans of other clubs, will see this as ‘typical bully-boy old firm’. More likely to get a negative reaction than a positive one I suspect.

Also, once a bhoycott begins, how and when does it end??

Anyways, I’m hopeful that other events/sanctions will make any potential vote on 4th July irrelevant.

  31. Jeez!! Are we in the 21st Century or the 17th? Read on and despair for our country.

    From today’s “Herald” –

THE Free Presbyterian Church has entered the independence debate to declare the Union forever sacrosanct.

The church, which has 41 congregations in Scotland, said that Roman Catholicism would be greatly strengthened on separation and that independence would mean worryingly closer ties with Europe.

It said: “The Synod is of the view that the Treaty of Union is inviolable and cannot be lawfully overturned in all time coming and is a fundamental guarantee of the civil and religious liberties of the people of Scotland which cannot be tampered with except at great peril to our spiritual and temporal welfare.” Spokesman, the Rev Allan MacColl, minister in Ness on Lewis, wrote a paper on the subject. He says it is clear that if Scotland became independent, its new constitution would be secular. He said: “While Britain is undoubtedly a most ungodly society, our constitution is still firmly Christian and Protestant, and we believe that simple fact may be a means of hindering greater evils from coming upon us than already have.”
