CSA will not be alone in boycott call

982

Celtic Quick News fully supports the decision by the Supporters’ Association Executive Committee to ask an Emergency Delegates Meeting to vote on whether to selectively boycott clubs which vote for a Newco to be admitted directly into the SPL next season.

We discussed the idea of a boycott on this basis towards the end of last season.  It appears the only appropriate action if our ‘sport’ can be subjugated for financial ends.

I am sure Celtic fans will not be the only ones considering a boycott.  If Newco gains access to the SPL next season there is likely to be a schism between supporters of clubs who opposed the move and those clubs who vote for Newco, despite the wishes of their own supporters.

Kilmarnock might be able to look forward to lower costs for stewarding and turnstile operators, from their own support as well as others.  Still, they would be able to open more than one stand when Newco visit.

What a great five days Walter Smith had.  His attempts to buy assets from Rangers administrators failed, sigh, but he managed to undermine the guys trying to sell tickets to Ibrox next season, so it wasn’t a complete waste of time.  Legned.

  1. As someone far more incisive than I has said here (how I hate to admit it,Philvis!) ,” Hell mend ’em.” I refer specifically to Trigger’s Broom F.C. aka The Cloned Rangers.

  2. A true bycott will require all bycotting fans to bycott any live games shown on TV aswell. Any revenue streams that these teams have who are in favour of a newco should also be targetted. Poor TV audiences for a game at Rugby Park or the likes would send a very clear message to any broadcaster wishing to show games.

    Let me straighten my facts.

Servco 5088 Ltd are Chunk Greens mob registered in London.

Sevco Scotland Ltd are registered at Ibrox. Sevco Scotland Ltd up until a couple of days ago were registered at the same address as BDO on York St in Glasgow (one floor below BDO).

It is rumoured that Sevco Scotland Ltd own Ibrox stadium and not Sevco 5088 Ltd.

  7. Just a quick note to congratulate Paul, and this is sincere, on coining a new and long-overdue addition to the internet lexicon. For years we’ve needed a word to describe individuals in football who are overrated by a compliant mass media, deluded as to their own importance, and nasty with it. Now we have it: Walter Smith, legned; Ally McCoist, legned; Joey Barton, legned; Trayner, Chic Young, every single commentator and “expert summariser” polluting the Euro 2012 broadscasts – legneds all.

  8. Sevco is a generic company name that is used to form a whole batch of companies that can then be sold on. Individual Sevcos can then be renamed or used as is. A quick check on the Companies House website shows that there are dozens of Sevcos, past and present.

Italian media are delighted that the English media have assumed that England will beat Italy.

Italians don’t rate Terry and Lescott . Big and strong -yes -footballers -no. Italy will try to play pass and move football against England . They might opt for a 4 -3-3 . Prandelli may opt to play a front 3 of Cassano/ De Natale and the excellent Giovinco. They will aim to keep the ball on the ground and try and engineer situations where the likes of Terry and Lescott will be forced to try and deal with quick feet and quick brains moving around their penalty box.

Great point, because I think that proves that we have to draw a line. I want to attend away matches, I rarely miss one, but I will be boycotting any newco and any club that votes newco in, including matches at Hampden. I would then want to watch games on tv but I take your point. So we’re left with radio (no chance!) or links.

Overall I am not sure about an ‘official’ boycott, as people want to see Celtic. I understand the polemic, I get the situation, but as with the other night when this was debated, there’s more heat than light in this, and the last thing we should be doing is denying the club any support, or any supporter the right to follow the team.

    Modern blanket boycott’s is tricky.

  11. Yes Gordon.

But Sevco Scotland Ltd previous address York Street Glasgow. Same building as BDO (liquidators of Rangers) except 1 floor below.

I’d be inclined to believe Sevco

Scotland Ltd (without taking too big a jump) are something to do with BDO who are registered at same address befor Sevco Scotland Ltd changed its address to

Ibrox yesterday (or was it day before) rathan being a sub of Sevco 5088 Ltd who’s registered address is London.

    Interesting times ahead.

  14. Barcabhoy’s comments the other night prompted me to post something I have been thinking in recent days and weeks.

I’m a Celtic fan and I’ve had all the commemorative family photos and laughs with the jelly and ice cream but throughout this whole sorry saga (and in the end that’s what it is for football in this country) a change has taken place in my outlook. I have a new found respect for the fans of pretty much all other clubs in Scotland. I think it started to really develop when I read Alex Thomson’s blog asking the views of all fans. I was outraged initially at the cynicism of many who simply talk of the ‘Old Firm’ and their woes on income distribution. ‘Bloody Hell!’, I thought. After all that’s happened why on earth are we still stuck in this awful, awful arranged marriage that we loathe. Celtic’s fiscal prudence has been a laughing stock for years, how can that now be utterly ignored and we’re deemed part of a duo with cheats. Out and out fraudsters and cheats.

‘To see ourselves as others see us’ was Thomson’s reply to someone’s complaint that was made along these lines. That was enough to make me stop and start analysing it a bit more rationally.

Actually, when you think about it, to win the league and gain European entry as well as a massive share of the prize pot and also the lion’s share of TV money is all a bit much when we want a competitive league. Bear in mind we also enjoy regular longer cup runs than the rest too. How can the chasm ever narrow? Maybe there should be a re-think on income distribution. Actually, no maybe about it, it’s time. If this is the league we are to play in.

I plan on this respect for the other fans to stay with me. I hope that they benefit greatly from a cheat free league. Their chances of silverware are massively boosted. European football is many times more likely than before. I honestly hope they grab it and enjoy every minute of it. I hope it gives them great memories and days that families remember, special memories that I have. Honestly.

My concern is that this new found outlook is soon rammed back in a box when the Clubs take up the actual vote. That cowardice prevails. The day is not seized, and Chairmen prostitute themselves to Mr Green. I mean him no harm personally but let’s all be brutally honest, there’s not a soul out there who could argue he’s here for the sake of the good of Scottish football. If he gets what he wants there will be an almost seamless continuation of football domination in this country by two clubs. Forever.

    And ever.

I could trot out the Braveheart speech now. “When you’re lying in your bed, dying, many years from now, would you give it all away……“

I know fans of their own clubs must be allowed the respect to decide and influence their own Boards but if it comes to open and honest discussion to save the game in this country, if I was in there at the SPL meeting for Celtic I would be offering, not conceding, changes. At the end of the day we are scraping every penny from our neighbours to mount a European challenge every year that will never amount to much more than a couple of good nights until complete European overhaul is undertaken. We complain about the EPL the way Hibs or Dundee United complain about us.

I would be scrapping the handling fee for away tickets. I would spread the TV income more evenly, and I would give serious consideration to allowing the away teams to keep the revenue they get from selling tickets for to their fans for Celtic Park. Radical? Maybe.

Eventually European wide league reconstruction will happen. Scandinavian Super Leagues. A Dutch-Belgian league perhaps. When this happens a negotiated change with a tiered support system for grass roots football would be better negotiated with our neighbours. Why not take Aberdeen, Hibs and Dundee United with us? A new club may or not be born playing at Ibrox. I wish to deprive no one of a football team, and if they work their way back to the top tier with humility and honesty and it is on merit then it will be deserved and we must also bear the responsibility to seek to never again foster hatred. Utopian, but so what.

It may only be for a short period, like the kickabout between the trenches, that we are blind to the colours of the next man and we unite to save football in this country, but I hope not. There is a chance to make the future of Scottish football all inclusive, and for the first time in a generation, fair.

  15. Regarding boycott

Stopped going to ibrokes around 8 years or so ago – Don’t miss it .

Stopped going to all away games around 5 years ago – miss it more recently after meeting some of the guys on here who go and the Green Brigade factor.

Stopped going to cup games at Hampden around 2 years ago , in protest against SFA – hard when we make finals but wouldn’t take a ticket for final away from a supporter who has went to games in lead up to final.

All decisions made by myself , no pressure from anyone else .

Good luck to the guys who go and are now faced with this decision .

Changing times mean that Italy doesn’t have the players to play defensively. Chiellini’s absence simply compounds that.

They know they are vulnerable to long balls / high balls. They have no solution to the likes of Carroll. They have little experience of playing against players like Carroll .

Italians are pragmatic . . They believe that attacking England is the best way to defend . The believe they have much better technique than England.. They will try and make England play chess.

I have to disagree with you on this one. Whether by accident or design the wording of the statement of the Celtic Supporters Association is not so far removed to that of Sandy Jardine of a few weeks back. The proposal in effect states that we, the CSA, will punish any club that votes differently from the way we think they should vote. Or seek to punish. A threat by any other name, hence the Jardine analogy. Now I have not read the Articles of the Celtic Supporters Association but I would be very surprised if such a remit is covered anywhere within them, and if not they should not be surprised if any of the threatened parties takes that on board somewhere down the line. The whole thing has more than an Old Firm feel to it, something I thought we would seek to avoid. It is grandstanding of the highest order, and at a time when the Scottish footballing public is reaching a broad consensus over corruption at Ibrox, completely unnecessary. Let the clubs vote without threat or hindrance from us, the issue is a simple one for them. Integrity or corruption, what is your favoured model?

B/kev- excellent post .I just wish the honest clubs were a bit stronger, especially Aberdeen. My favourite time watching the Hoops was the early 80s; we didn’t win the League every year but the football was competitive, the other teams had some right good players [Sturrock, W.Miller] and the grounds were pretty full.

And the Horribles were spavined gash.
