Dangerous act of disturbed individual is only reason to self-police

122

When surveyed by the BBC, of Scotland’s 42 senior (cough) clubs, only Partick Thistle, Queen of the South and Annan Athletic thought Strict Liability should be introduced to tackle crowd trouble.  39 clubs either had no view on the matter, or were convinced by the overwhelming weight of evidence that Strict Liability is a shorthand for doing something which has proven to be ineffective.

Partick chief executive, Gerry Britton, insisted that putting fans through the courts did not deter others from criminal activity.  But then, in a classic of the intellectual genre, he said, “The Tartan Army are brilliant [at holding misbehaving fans to account]if anyone is up to anything, they’ll be the ones to get them out.”

So all we need is a sprinkling of “Tartan Army” types in kilts at each game to intercept a random no mark in the process of throwing a missile.  With insight like this, I am sure it is only a matter of time before Gerry is running the SFA.

Self-policing by fans has a role to play, but don’t tell me to be against throwing missiles because a section of a stand could close, throwing missiles is wrong because it is the dangerous act of a seriously disturbed individual.  Those who would not call out this behaviour for the latter reason will not do so for the former.

Meanwhile in the real world, those totally unreasonable Celtic fans expect the appointment of an impartial referee.

    As ever CSC

  2. Don’t think Madhun is the worst tbh. An out and out Hun yes but probably overcompensates for it these days as it’s obviously out there. Cant remember him giving a bad decision against us recently.

  3. Good evening CQN from the Garngad

Thanks for the replys regarding our team for the Glasgow Derby on Sunday.

I would play my strongest team, no matter who is going at the end of the season, 3 points is what we want.

  4. Let’s just hump these cavemen on Sunday and ram another League right down their throats.

There will be nothing done about Orange bands or the usual sectarian singing at the bigotdome.

All the talk recently was a squirrel about other clubs to cover up every match day at Ipox.

A Tr3ble Tr3ble will make them as sick as zombies.

  5. Imo, Boyatta and Benkovic should be the first names on the team sheet, if they are fit, on Sunday. Wait til we have won the league before we start to tinker.

We have enough injured that we can’t put out our best team. Still, I hope our manager puts his faith in the likes of Johnny Hayes and Tim Weah. They haven’t let us down when they have worn the jersey.

  6. Good evening, friends.

So, tonight, EKFC have another chance to win the Lowland League title, just needing to beat last years champions, The Spartans. EKFC last lost a league game in October. They then went on a 14-win run before drawing 0-0 on Saturday, when a win would have clinched the league. ‘Tis always the way!

No mistake tonight and looking forward to paying my £6 and cheering them on.

  7. BADA BING, that video belongs in the dark ages, my god Neanderthal man, the idiot on the big bass drum trying to put a hole in it, this is what we are up against, feckin sad truly feckin sad.hh.

  8. Couple of thoughts.

Who wants to phone up their local Band and asked of they do weddings at the local chapel ?

or is this to allow the the worst members to be able to pursue priests off the steps and back into the church to continue their sectarian abuse.

lastly imagine one of them turning up with a uniform on. hahahhaha

Orange Order members allowed to enter Scottish Catholic churches

Members of the Orange Order in Scotland will be allowed to enter Catholic churches for the first time. Since it was established in 1798, members of Protestant group The Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland have been prohibited from entering the religious buildings. However, within the past few weeks a decision has been taken by the organisation’s leadership to remove this rule.

The move has been welcomed by anti-sectarian campaigners.

Dave Scott, director of charity Nil By Mouth, said: “This is a highly significant move by the order. I know from our work that the ban could cause a lot of tensions within families and friendships so the fact it is being lifted is both welcome and positive. It also recognises the realities of our day to day lives in Scotland were people marry and build relationships across old religious and cultural boundaries. “It’s important that we recognise this is a big step for those involved in the Order to take and we should welcome it as a constructive measure toward improving relationships between faith and cultural groups in Scotland.”

This issue has long been a point of debate within the Orange Order, with Grand Lodges in other parts of the world already lifting the ban. The rule has previously prevented Orangemen and women from attending funerals, weddings, and other events held within Roman Catholic chapels. A change to this was reportedly ratified at a Grand Lodge meeting in February, and has now been communicated with the wider membership. Grand Master of the Orange Order in Scotland, Jim McHarg, was reportedly at lodge meetings to discuss the move. A member of a Glasgow lodge, who wished to remain anonymous, said the decision was shared with lodges last week to a mixed response. He added: “The change was rushed through two months ago. Some of the membership are up in arms. “There was an argument about it and it could have a drastic affect on the organisation. “I fully support the move – we are all one society now.” admits Dr Michael Rosie, a sociologist at the University of Edinburgh, has said he is surprised by the move. However, he believes the change will have little impact on the order’s membership numbers. Dr Rosie said: “It is getting rid of a rule which people were not comfortable with, an anti-Catholic message instead of a pro-Protestant one.” The Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland declined to comment.

  9. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Evening all.

Anyone doubting that the BBC are kowtowing to get readmitted should read English’s latest about the ills of Scottish football.

Targeted dig at Celtic supporters who misbehave, the sins of others hidden among the generalities.

    Pathetic.

  10. Saint Stivis- orange order dearie me, imagine spending your life like these feckwits.

Life is far too short for that shit.

    D. :)

  11. in all honesty, the orange lodge is the biggest threat for people coming together, not just in Scotland but all over the Caledonian estate , im sick of hearing, oh he cant attend that funeral or go to that wedding or go to that christening, because the people concerned are roman catholics good god almighty its 2019 ffs I despair I really do .hh.

  12. Bada, am pretty sure Maxwell’s thoughts on this are what he is told ;-))

Am in agreement with Tontine Tim & others, no Benko or Boyata….except & unless we can replace them with better….strongest team till league and cup final place are sown up, then try some experimentation ;-))

  13. Jobo…good luck to yer other yeam tonight ;-))…nothin stoppin you from buying another season ticket now that you’ve got all this free time on yer hands…better half permitting ;-))

  14. There are many referees in Scotland whose appointment would give me greater concern than doea that of Madden`s. I noticed some time ago that the Celtic players seem comfortable talking with him and I also feel that , if he once was biased against us, he no longer is.

Because of the way Celtic are treated in Scotland,it is very easy for us to see every refereeing mistake as a deliberate ploy to lessen our chances of victory.Madden might not be as bad as many think.I certainly don`t have any worries re Sunday. I am extremely confident that the gap will not be narrowed.

Could you imagine how the deadly bears would react if it was made public that an ex Celtic season ticket holder was in charge of that derby??

  16. Jj, I admire yer optimism…but not only were they allowed to cheat last time out…but they outplayed us and the final score was only down to the heroics of CG…we need to turn up ready to fight and be determined to show why we are the best team in the land

    H.H.

  17. Prestonpans Bhoys – nail on head.

Have you ever heard anything so ridiculous as an ex season ticket holder of one team refereeing a game where that team plays in a Derby. Feckin cheating bassas.

    D. :)

  18. A mate persuaded me to look at a link he sent about FF and how the huns are in meltdown about brother maddens appointment for sunday. I never bother with that vile shite but as I say I was persuaded to. Feck me, its truly staggering how they believe every referee has an agenda against them and give us everything. I’m thinking it’s deflection to cover up how pish they and seethin really are, but the more u read, I actually think they believe it, saying that, they still believe they are the same club and bigotry doesn’t exist at ibrokes. Truly a shower of scum.

  19. Ha Jobo…am convinced EKFC hav decided to mirror their business model on CFC…and as per the Baron Harkonnen…hav decided to squeeze ;-))

I once worked with a guy in his late 50s (my supervisor ) and he was a member of the OO for many years .

He told be his daughter was getting married in the chapel and when he told the ludge they informed him ,if you go into the chapel for your daughters wedding you will no longer be welcome here .

To his credit he told them to stick their ludge were the sun don’t shine and proudly walked his daughter down the isle .

That was less than 10 yrs ago

So forgive me for not joining NBM in giving a well done to the grand master for their forward thinking .

I think it’s more a case of evolve or die as he can’t be the only one to tell those knuckledraggers were to go
