Dangers ahead, unimaginable mess and new euphemism

988

I’m still meeting people who haven’t noticed.  Hibernian are on an outstanding run of form, having won their last three games and undefeated in six.  The last reversal they had was at Celtic Park the first weekend in April.  On Sunday we’re playing the team with the best recent form in Scotland; the warning signs are painted in large green font.

They are dangerous up front, Leigh Griffiths has scored four goals more than any Celtic player, including several stunners.

The weight of the world rested on Hibs’ shoulders at last season’s Scottish Cup final, when the stage was set for a century of pain to be wiped away by defeating their greatest rivals.  It was too much.  Now they take the field unburdened and vastly more dangerous than St Mirren, Hearts or Kilmarnock were when they overcame Celtic at Hampden recently.

Odds on Hibs are very generous.

I caught some chat online last night.  “Blackmail”, “extortion”, “imprisonment”, “getting rid of the problem”, “a catastrophe of an intensity that you…. clearly do not appear to understand”, “fraudulent”, “once the genie is out it will have a life of its own”.

What an unimaginable mess.

I think “Been an admirer of your recent work” is bound to become a euphemism in years to come for when something that should never have been said or written slips out.  This is a small glimpse into how the whole thing happened.

Fantastic Q&A with Willie Wallace this morning, thanks to Willie and Winning Captains.  Willie’s recollections of our great times are irresistible.  Reading the book as it came together was a joy.  You’ll love it.

Remember you can start Cup Final weekend by meeting Willie at a book signing at Waterstons’ on Sauchiehall St, tomorrow – 25th May, 46 years on from the day – from 2pm until 4pm.  If you can’t make it you can order a signed copy below.

  3. Just read the cqn link to guardian article re. champions league qualification. UEFA and Financial fair play my arse. Seems to be a case of the strong get stronger and to hell with smaller leagues. Unless UEFA are prepared to guarantee the champions of weaker leagues entry to group stages, then the so called big leagues are going to pull farther away from the rest. The European cup will simply be rotated between (as is the case already) Spain, England, Germany and Italy. If they continue to show this disregard to smaller nations/leagues, then it’s time the smaller leagues collectively flexed their muscle. Together they can possibly influence minds. It’s time those running the game in Scotland and elsewhere woke to this. Or it will simply fade to obscurity.

  4. Happy 46th anniversary

  5. Green admitted in the press that Whyte and himself were in cahoots initially. So because he always intended to stiff Whyte that isn’t a genuine business/ownership link.

I have no doubt the SFA will just accept this.

It’s incredible that yet again their own greed will cause them more problems than any official sanctions.

Hear no evil, see no evil.

I shed a tear at the game that night when that display appeared, I just shed another, looking at it again. Your a cruel burger.

Any chance of the Green Brigade rustling up a red card to the SFA Cup Final as we did with the wicked witch Cup Final in 1988? I think that might get our point across! Had a cracking wee night in the pub last night which resulted in a few Huns and Jambos storming out foaming at the mouth. All I had to say is that we’re in the “Canny Lose Cup Final” as if we win its the double if we lose there’s an open top bus waiting down Leith to shut the Jambos right up and confirm them as the 2nd biggest team in Scotland whilst the darkside are both condemned to a slow lingering death and a life of turmoil until then a real justice. Que mass door slamming with the best retort coming from a Jambo. “I hope the Hibees gub you Fenian bas@$*ds on Sunday and shut you lot up!! SLAM… It’s fair to say they are in emotional turmoil NAE LUCK! Good luck to the Bhoys on Sunday another wee hangover Monday wouldnae go amiss as long as its through celebrating right enough. Anyone going got the Gold Hospitality package? HH

  8. Gholfers, you must watch this, a friend was at the BMW ProAm at Wentworth on Thursday and he filmed a bet between Sergio Garcia & one of his group who were in the motor racing world, Bruno Spengler, Derek Warwick and Tim Harvey. He didn’t recognise them so he could not identify the guy who placed the bet.

He said that one of the racing guys bet Sergio a fiver that he would take him on at a longest drive. The bet was agreed at a fiver and the other guy went first and hit a good ball down the fairway, then it was the turn of Sergio.

  10. Morning all. Glorious day down here. Wall to wall sunshine. Hope it will be the same tomorrow. Unlikely, I believe.

Radio 5 Live were going into raptures this morning about the 50,000 Dortmund fans in London for today’s big game. Haven’t they heard of Seville. Of course, that was not in England. Sometimes their insularity is just laughable.

They’re cocooned in their own wee world, like the SFA and the Establishment in bonny Scotland. How do you break through institutionalised bigotry?

    Morning,all

I see another independent legal inquiry into hunland goings-on has come up with that quaint Scottish verdict of

    “NOTHING TO SEE HERE,TIMMY-EFF OFF!”

    &&&&&&&&

The leak to the BBC (coincidentally just as ST renewals should be coming in) is to reassure mugs that their money will be safe. The undisclosed links between Chuckles and CW were acknowledged, the enquiry was to establish the extent of the contact.

Chuck originally implied that he was duping CW out of his property, are the BBC asking us to believe that sevco have spent the thick end of £1M on an independent enquiry, which hasn’t interviewed any of the main players, to exonerate Chuckles?

What is it that sevco are really hiding?

Donn’t take your eyes offfff the muuuuney!!!!!!!!

  15. 25th MAY

    Zurich fell in Switzerland,

    They fell in Glasgow too,

Then the French went down three one each time,

    And bid the Cup adieu.

The ‘slavs won at home but went down two one,

And the Czech’s were sent their way,

And the Celts were bound for Lisbon town,

    On the 25th of May.

    Twelve Thousand loyal Celtic fans,

In bus and train and car,

Traveled Eighteen Hundred miles to see,

    The greatest team by far.

They came to cheer on the boys in green,

And help them win the day,

And beat Inter Milan in Lisbon Town,

    On the 25th of May.

The game was only eight minutes gone,

    When Inter Milan they scored,

If they tried from then to hard my bhoys,

They couldn’t have scored one more.

And when half time came with the score the same,

    The Celts did not dismay,

They would win the top in Lisbon Town,

    On the 25th of May.

A goal must come and come it did,

    And Gemmell was our man,

Then Chalmers scored and the Celtic roar,

    Was heard by gay Milan.

There’s been battles won by our Celtic Son’s,

But they showed the world the way,

When they beat Milan in Lisbon Town,

    On the 25th of May.

So here’s to Simpson, Clark and Craig,

    To Johnstone and McNeill,

To Chalmers, Wallace and Lennox, Auld,

    For they refused to yield.

And here’s to Murdoch and Gemmell too,

To Stein who showed the way,

To the greatest team who showed the world,

    On the 25th of May.

    On the 25th of May.
