DAVIES BACKS HENDRY

CHRIS DAVIES believes Celtic new Bhoy Jack Hendry has the ability to cope with in the big-time.

And the Hoops No.2 insisted the club would have no qualms about throwing him in against Zenit St Petersburg in tomorrow night’s first leg Europa League last-32 confrontation at Parkhead.

The 22-year-old centre-back signed from Dundee a fortnight ago, but has never sampled European action.

However, with Dedryck Boyata sidelined after damaging his groin against Kilmarnock, the youngster may be forced to deputise at the back.

Davies claimed Hendry has Brendan Rodgers’ complete confidence as he confirmed the former Partick Thistle and Wigan defender is in contention to start against Roberto Mancini’s Russian outfit.

He said: “We’ve got confidence in Jack that he can play – that’s why we signed him. He can play at this level.

“Of course, the more games he plays at European level, the more he will develop.

“But we have a lot of faith in what he can do and we’ll see what that means for the team selection.”
