Dear SFA, a joke hurt our feelings

1666

Can you imagine how a formal complaint about the comment ‘Rory Bremner can pretend to be Tony Blair’ would be composed?

‘Dear SFA, a rude man’s joke hurt our feelings.  Tell him straight, no more jokes!’

I clicked onto the NEW club’s site to confirm their reaction.  As well as complaining about a joke [it wouldn’t hurt if it wasn’t true], they complain about the Daily Record, “the paper is riddled from top to bottom with an anti-Rangers bias”, just to prove they also have a sense of humour.

They also attempted to put a stake in the ground by affirming that Pinsent Masons, now representing Scotland’s champions and sole Champions League participants, did not report to the police that Craig Whyte has any connection to the club/company.

No one has ever suggested that Pinsent Masons made such a report.  This is a bit like insisting that Ally McCoist will not manage the Champions League winners this season.  Pinsent Masons were far too busy taking instructions from their top client’s chief executive, in his non-comedic role.

What a laugh!

    Ernie,

Well to my young ears he was a thinker. I appreciate his activism– politics without action amounts to nothing and I have always been aware of that.

I never went down the political route other than in private because I could not commit, I became disillusioned and uninterested in party politics but always interested in my own definition of social justice and stuck to that.

I watched Pukki closely tonight and the lad is not a striker in that position he plays with a lack of belief. When he drops back into central midfield he looks more of a player much more composed I think its the square peg trying to fit in the round hole or whatever the saying is. H.H.

He was certainly very analytical and cerebral but I don’t think he would have thought of himself as any sort of intellectual or theorist. As I say more of an activist and agitator. And none the worse for that. It was a privilege and a pleasure to have met him.

Fair points, so we should simply drop it then ?

    No of course not.

The reason I posted that was to point out that football is corrupt, it gives me no pleasure to say that but it’s the truth. We have to accept the truth but we can, through guys like you, strive to change things and not accept corruption as the norm. It wont be an easy fight, nor will it be a short fight. It’ll be a long haul and there will be set backs.

We have to acknowledge that as a starting point or we’ll never change anything.

  20. Resolution 12:

Just caught up with yesterday’s AGM events and the post-analysis.

Reasonably happy that it didn’t get vetoed – well done to; Canamalar, Auldheid, BRTH and M23 for steering it to a position where; Shareholders who have sought accountability from our Board will be part of the ongoing process/ investigation.

Disappointed that the ‘Living Wage Issue’ was not dealt with in a more sympathetic manner in these austere times. Sometimes passionate rhetoric (no matter how well meaning/ supported) can be perceived as a personal attack by the recipients of the motion. Maybe a lesson here for next time – broker engagement with the Board and examine all the facts – persuasion often wins over confrontation.

As for PL’s throw-away line – good on him! He’s had to maintain a dignified silence on a number of occasions these past 2 years – high time he dished out a few caustic barbs in their direction.

Why my heart’s green and white?

How does a Polish girl get to support Celtic? Why would a Polish girl who lives in Poland start watching Celtic? Tell me if you’re Polish why do you support Celtic? – Those are only few twitter questions I’ve been asked recently.

It all started in 2005 year, when Artur Boruc was about to join Celtic. He was (and still is) very known goalkeeper in Poland. After he moved to Celtic with another Polish footballer Maciej Żurawski, Polish media started to show SPL matches. I was 12 years old then. My dad is huge sport fan, we started to watch Celtic games together, just out of curiosity about Polish players.

Then I wanted to know something about the club, I found a website where I read everything about Celtic. I loved the history, charity things, supporters devoted to the team for good and bad. I was surprised to see families with children on the stadium. I thought: it was more than a club!

I remember that my first favourite footballer was Shaun Maloney, he was short but his free kicks were incredible! ( I’m short too, maybe that’s why he impressed meJ ). After few weeks I noticed that every weekend meant Celtic game to me.

For my 13th birthday I got my first Celtic shirt. I was really funny at primary school, 13 years old girls during P.E lesson dressed in Celtic Glasgow shirt J

The years pass, players change. Since Boruc and Żurawski have left there are no Scottish Premier League matches on TV in Poland. But that’s no problem- God bless the Internet! I couldn’t imagine supporting any other club. After joining Twitter I met amazing people who support Celtic too! Celtic supports are 3rd supporters in the world but for me they are the best ones. If you support Celtic you feel like a part of one big family, only people connected with Celtic would understand this feeling. I could write a book about it and maybe one day I will.

I’ve never been on Parkhead, I’ve never heard “You’ll never walk alone” live, but I believe that this day is still yet to come!

That’s my true story how Celtic has become the part of my life. I could say more and more about it, I could even write a book about it and maybe one day I will :)

For summing up I’ll paste what every Celtic supporter knows for sure :

    When we read its history,

It’s enough to make your heart grow sad,

    God bless them.

We don’t care if we win lose or draw,

Darn the hair do we care,

Because we only know that there’s going to be a show,

And the Glasgow Celtic will be there. [The Celtic Song]

Politicians understand this word perfectly because it is what and how they are.

Self serving breed of people who know the truth but don’t want us to know.

Will never vote for any of them, but still have the right to have a very low opinion of the type of people who are attracted to serve themselves in this field.

    Eddie..,

We were under no illusions about the corruption, you have identified some examples were the license was not pulled, we are looking for examples were it was pulled and if you can think of any it would be much appreciated. I have seen UEFA have pulled about 28 licences in one of their state of football publications but they dont give details, these are much more valuable to us, if anyone knows of examples with verifiable info in similar circumstances it would help big time.

  27. I watched the Football Conference league game earlier beween Barnet(player manager Edgar Davids sported number 1 on his back)and Cambridge United and witnessed one of the most bizarre incidents I have ever seen at game.

Cambridge, top of the league, were 2-0 early ahead on and Barnet pulled level at 2-2 just before half time.

The second half belonged mostly to Barnet who were pressing for a winner. Up front, they threw on a young gangling 18 year old, George Sykes, who was making his debut and his perseverance won Barnet a corner in the 93rd minute.

Barnet are playing in a new stadium this year and have small covered terraces behind each goal (think Dingwall/Ross County).

Minutes before the corner the Barnet supporters let off a white smoke bomb immediately behind the Cambridge United goal and the thick smoke started billowing from under the cover and rose above the crossbar.

Back to the action – the corner comes over, a Barnet player heads goalwards and a Cambridge player stationed on the post clears the ball straight up and into the smoke cloud. The ball disappears momentarily before falling earthwards only to clip the crossbar and then strike the young debutant on the knee before landing in the back of the net.

Cue wild celebrations only for them to be brought to an abrupt halt by the linesman’s flag signalling a corner.

He claimed the ball had gone behind the goal before re-entering the field of play.

Lesson for all fans – leave the smoke bombs/flares at home!

Not surprisingly Celtic suffered from a similar linesman’s decision in a game v Rangers (1872 – 2012) although the official did not have the excuse that smoke obscured his view.

Incidentally Adam Virgo was co-commentating. Apparently a knee injury has finished his career.

    Doc

I agree with that completely and more or less said precisely that above.

I just chose to exercise my politics outwith the party system and in many respects the political system.

For a long period of time my politics influenced me in my practice of the law — some things I would do for the sake of doing them, others I just would not do at all no matter what the potential reward.

Also, the law is an easy option– and the lazy option I am willing to say — because when you challenge the state or the banks or whoever with the law you get a ruling, an end result.

That does not necessarily happen in politics which I think is much harder.

The late Jimmy White MP said that politics was a dirty business and that you had to chose and pick your fights very carefully as there were only certain issues or occasions when you could take your colleagues with you.

I hated that — the idea of having to chose the fight depending upon what the party said or whatever.

Now, I will not pretend that I was ever any kind of campaigning solicitor or anything like that — I didn’t much fancy them either to be honest — but in between whatever I saw as my main field of practice which kept a roof over my head I always had a wee “Cause Celebre” on the go.

This would involve no celebrity whatsoever and as often as not be on a pro bono basis but for someone it meant having someone else with a big fancy office and all that bollocks putting their shoulder to the wheel and attempting to sort something for them — and maybe changing the law or at least influencing it somewhere along the way.

None of that is meant to sound very “worthy” and holier than thou — It is just my way of explaining that the way I brought my politics to the fore at times was different and peculiar to me.

Or to put it another way— I would have been a bloody awful political team player!
