D&P: Rangers could cease before end of season

676

Lots to chew over in this afternoon’s statement from Duff and Phelps but this nugget grabbed my attention:

“If we proceed with an offer that is based on a sale of the business and assets, then we would expect the football club share to be transferred within a matter of weeks, with a preference of prior to the end of the current season.”

This means that unless a CVA is concluded beforehand, Duff and Phelps plan to ask the football authorities to award Rangers’ share in the SPL to a new club prior to the end of this season.  This share is worth money, Duff and Phelps would be able to sell it to generate cash, so there is no harm in them asking!

The enormous problem for the league is that the Newco would not employ any footballers and the final date in the season for signing non-contracted player passed a month ago.  Rangers players are employed by Rangers FC PLC and their registrations cannot be transferred to any other football club outside of a transfer window.

In the event of a liquidation (which Duff and Phelps have not accepted as a likelihood), player registrations revert to the SFA.  They are not assumed by a phoenix Newco to pick the following week.  There is absolutely no circumstances for a club to avoid liquidation and still manage to transfer their players to a Newco outside a transfer window.

How did they concoct such a fantasy?

This is a Fifa rule and cannot be altered by the SFA or SPL.  The entire debacle has become farcical.

SPL clubs, who vote on Friday on whether to introduce a procedure which would allow a Newco to be allowed straight into the league, have the proverbial gun pointing to their heads with this statement.  They must stand firm and refused to become embroiled in the mess.

The other SPL clubs and the SFA did not design this crisis at a member club and it is not their responsibility to resolve it.  We will find out soon enough whether member clubs take account of the overwhelming voice of their supporters on this matter.

I am very reluctant to question the utterings of a member of the McStay family, but bottom line is that Willie was at Celtic for well over 10 years as a youth development coach.

The fact that we have no players in our squad who came through the ranks from that period makes me take his comment with a pinch of salt.

Zbyszek – Jelly and Ice Cream term does not exist in Poland

What do Polish kids eat at parties?

When I was a child, it was all Angel Delight and Soda Stream.

Kids these days don’t know what they’re missing. (thumbsup)

We don’t have Rangers. Are you going to transplant them? No way. I suppose Jelly and Ice Creams are for biggest celebrations when they die.

I suppose they were confused in the restaurant and did not know what you were talking about? Menu in the restaurants where Celtic fans go need corrections.

    Anyway

WTF are Stella all about reducing the strength of their Lager to 4.8

  10. i have always argued that we should have a far better squad of team first players, at the expense of the blotted squad we have right now.

we have a lot of good young players and if given a chance many will go on to have good careers with us.

good young players learning from seasoned pros is valuable, good young players learning from very good seasoned pros is more valuable.

getting good young players into the first team will generally lead to more wanting and willing to sign up at us, because they know they will get their chance.

for me a squad of 19 first team players is just about enough then its all about the young players.

to be fair i have been impressed will NL’s willingness to blood young players into the first team this season

    hail hail

A big part of it is getting players into a starting position in a CL game and if any of them go on from there to sign for, I don’t know, Spartak Moscow for £10m and fund a whole new generation, that’s part of it too.

Willie was involved in the youth and reserve teams between 1994 and 2010 if you include the spell at Újpest. He therefore had a hand in the development of Aiden, Ross Wallace, Jamie Smith, Davie Marshall, Charlie Mulgrew, Craig Beattie, Liam Miller, Cillian Sheridan, John Kennedy and others.

I know, Wroclaw is not bad but not the best place in here. I suppose that Poznan will be better for you. If you are in Warsaw, let me know.

A lot of clubs have stand up, progressive youth development programmes now. There is a recognition that “if not us, then who?” and amongst the clubs mentioned earlier, and Falkirk, Hamilton and Dundee Utd are doing great things, one of the best coaching set ups is at Queens Park. Some terrific guys doing great things for a lot of talented kids, many of whom are just too short or too late developing for the tatse of the bigger SPL clubs.

Henrick came to us in the doldrums at 27 years old. Guys like Barry Robson and Paul Hartley earned their spurs in the lesser rodeos before emerging as great professionals. It’s not a case of ‘superstar or bust’ by age 19. Quite the contrary sometimes. Youngsters develop in their own time, and many top players come from less recognised clubs. Ask Gary Hooper where he was playing 4 years ago!

If your boy has some talent, look for good coaching first and foremost, rather than a ‘big club’. The path is not always clear. Celtic will always take the pick of the crop at a given age group, but far more top pros graduate from smaller schools.
