Dunfermline 0-3 Celtic

686

Celtic collected all three points in one of their most comfortable away performances of the season at Dunfermline this afternoon.  Anthony Stokes and Victor Wanyama gave them a half time lead before a Charlie Mulgrew free kick completed the rout in the second half.

Mulgrew set pieces, the source of four consecutive goals, have become important to Celtic recently and could have led to an opener in 12 minutes when Thomas Rogne was wrestled to the ground inside the Dunfermline by Barrowman, who used both arms to prevent the Norwegian getting on the end of the corner, but referee Ian Brines, who had a particularly poor game, along with his assistants, missed the incident.

Five minutes later Celtic were in the lead when Mulgrew’s short corner was worked out to Anthony Stokes who shot from the 18 yard line into the postage stamp corner, giving goalkeeper, Chris Smith no chance.

Moments later Stokes, Hooper and Forrest combined well before Stokes tried a cheeky shot to Smiths’ near post.  Celtic were now in full flow and Wanyama saw his shot from 25 yards tipped over by Smith.  Five minutes from half time Celtic were in easy street.  Charlie Mulgrew free kick from 28 yards was met inside the six yard box by Victor Wanyama who volleyed into the net.

Dunfermline almost caught Celtic snoozing within 60 seconds of the second goal when Barrowman knocked a through ball onto Burns but his shot was saved by Fraser Forster.

11 minutes after the break a Mulgrew free kick made its way left to Ledley who clipped a cross for Hooper but the strikers’ header went narrowly wide.  On the hour mark James Forrest ran at Dunfermline from 50 yards but his cutback from six yards didn’t find a taker in the middle and slipped past the post.

High winds played their part today and almost caught out Rogne and Forster who struggled with a high ball that held up but Dunfermline couldn’t profit.

Charlie Mulgrew completed the scoring on 69 minutes with a free kick from 28 yards.  Dunfermline keeper, Smith, should have done better as the ball went into the middle of the goal just under the bar.

Samaras linked with Brown to carve an opening but his shot was blocked.  The ball broke to James Forrest who shot from outside the box but Smith made no mistake this time, turning the ball over for a corner.  Mulgrew fired in the resulting corner and Ki found a yard of space 11 yards out but his shot went narrowly wide.

Ki Sung-Yueng made no contact in a tackle with Paddy Boyle, the Dunfermline player hurdled his challenge, but then grabbed and threw Ki by the throat.  Ki never retaliated, no doubt expecting the referee to show Boyle a red card, but instead Brines booked both players.  It was perhaps the most ridiculous refereeing decision of the season.

Emilio Izaguirre made his long-awaited return from breaking his leg at Pittodrie in August but almost marked his performance with a negative contribution.  Having controlled the ball he then tried to dribble out of his own six yard box but was fortunate not to be punished.

The hun strikers always have an extra yard of space to work in due to any contact on them resulting in defender being penalized. They also benefit from the interpretation of offside being applied solely for attacking player.

Kenny Millers sudden goalscoring talent is the perfect example of this.

Likewise their defenders given leeway to plough through the opponents back and be given all fifty fifty decisions.

Their fouls and cautions against ratio in Europe compared to Scotland tells its own story.

Compare and contrast how defenders play against Celtics strikers to theirs.

Its called spl mib factor and can increase the Huns ability exponentially.

I didn’t hear any of the game from ESPN. I was recording it on my HDD Recorder and watched it as I synchronised it to Celtic TV sound. No Hateley or Burley gibberish to be heard.

I am totally chilled, i think its only fair to ask for clarification on such damming accusations.

I haven’t made any judgement on bangura, to do so after one league start would be grossly unfair and would largely be based on guess work, whether it was good or bad. If neil had made the decision to play him last week i would have trusted his judgement, much the same way i did when he started with Thomas Rogne.

He may well be a dud, he may well be a supersta, but i find it incredible that fans (and journalists) can arrive at such conclusions with so little evidence to make a proper judgement.

However, you are now claiming that you have heard directly from the Celtic coaching staff (either Neil,Alan,Gary or Johan)that they were surprised how much the player struggled in training, have I understood that properly?

That to me would be hard evidence to support your conclusion, however if you are indulging in muck spreading gossip, then you would be doing the player, the manager and Celtic a disservice.

Unflappable, but did think that his passing was not quite up to his usual standards today..

However, his all-round game more than made up for this minor shortcoming..

    Happy New Year to you.

The DR couldnae afford me :)

On Breaking Bad: Took all four series on my lap top to Spain and with the TV signal failing a bit at night, it certainly more than filled the couple of hours in the evening. It certainly justified everything you said about it. Even ordered the first series for my friend down there. Thanks for the heads up.

On Rangers: I was struck tonight on Clyde by the prevailing mindset of supporters and pundits that appears inacapable of recognising that the business model that brought the club to its knees is simply not going to raise it up again.

I know the Celtic Board get criticised, it is a consequence of playing the long game, but not only is our business model sustainable it looks like our footballing model of recruiting young and developing from the best young players available globally, is starting to pay football and business dividends.

I say this not to have a go at those who criticised the Board, but to emphasis the point about how difficult Rangers are going to find it to create their own sustainable business and football model. The recruitment and development capacity that enables the long game to be played does not appear to exist at Ibrox. So what else can they do but grub around in the bargain basement to buy pups that will be sold to their support as Alukohounds or Novoterriers?

However let fate take its course with them, now is the time for Celtic to do the same capacity building job with our support as they did on recruiting/developing so that whatever fate brings us we will feel we are a part of the influencing process on an informed basis, instead of apart from it.

  7. Just back from East End Park, a very professional performance, not even a hint of New Douglas Park/Fir Park hangover after derby wins last season.

I see McCall’s surrender monkeys were at it again today, really interested to see the fouls stats as at Fir Park I do remember a few weeks ago they were going through our players as if their very lives depended on it.

Wonder how wee Lasley played? I see he had plenty of time last night for some twitter chat with Rangers TV commmentator Tom Miller- see tweet below. Oh the banter between friends eh? (The patter will knock you out btw).

  8. Broadfoot going to Bristol city makes a lot of sense, afters years of lobbying, environmentalists there have succeeded in having the local council ban microwave ovens.

The assets that them have a few and far between. I`m sure Whyte and Sally have sat down for a wee asset mangement talk. So look for Jelly legs, Shagger and Davis to be sold for circa 10 million combined. Once Whyte has his money he will pull the plug on the establishment team.

I too thought his passing wasn’t up to scratch, specifically when he tried a few longer range passes which failed to find Celtic players. I thought his over performance though, was pretty good, breaking up play well etc and it was very difficult for opposition players to get the ball from him.

  22. I thought we were not at our best today, but very comfortable none the less. There are maybe a couple of players who are looking tired. I would welcome Commons back and allow Forrest a couple of games rest.

On transfer rumours. O’Connor was reported to be under investigation for an insurance claim into a damaged Ferrari. I would doubt anyone will sign him until that is resolved.

A bit like Goodwillie, before the Rape charge was dropped.

Rangers problems are now starting to chrystallise. Is Vat being paid ? Is Paye ? Are Grant Thornton asking for proof of where Whytes funds have come from.

Banks, auditors and Investment firms are under very strong obligations nowadays to ensure funds come from a proper source. The auditors should not just sign off accounts without knowing where any introduced money has come from.

Whyte has had a previous 7 year ban and was accused on the BBC by the head of a government agency as behaving criminally.

Grant Thornton should demand absolute proof that any funds introduced to Rangers have come from legitimate sources. There is no UK based evidence of Whyte having any significant wealth, and nothing which has come to light outside the UK.

Any auditor doing his job properly should drill down and get proof of legitimate funding , and if there is a disclosure required about the source of that funding it should be noted in the auditors report

  23. Great result today, not the best performance but continuing the winning streak particularly in the poor conditions was very good work. Agree with Lennon on VW – thought his distribution was poor but that apart he has looked a cracker and sure we can afford him a poor day passing wise if he continues the way he has been.

As for Bangura – he has not looked the part but not had many chances either. Mega difficult to come on for 10 or so minutes and look like a player..as for that fat tube Guidi saying Celtic have to write that off as poor business – we’ll see what he says about the Roy Hudd’s that the dark side have signed – Ortiz, Bedoya, McKay etc.

p.s Seville67 – not getting at you mate but if your pal is that close to the Management Team he should be a bit more circumspect with the information he gets from them.
