Effective Celtic close out Rosenborg

399

It was far from pretty but it was always going to be effective.  Celtic matched whatever Rosenborg could offer in Trondheim last night to make their way to the Champions League third qualifying round.

This was not an occasion that will last long in the memory, Celtic only got their passing game together fleetingly – and not at all in the first half, but Rosenborg looked as though they could play all night and not reduce Celtic’s advantage.

What was clear from the start is that Celtic were short of options in possession.  The linking play we are used to seeing from Callum McGregor, Olivier Ntcham and Scott Brown just didn’t happen.  As a consequence, Scott Sinclair and James Forrest were offered little action, while Odsonne Eduard had a largely frustrating evening.

A significant part of Celtic’s play is underpinned by the central defenders pushing ahead of their central-mid team-mates.  This seldom happened last night, almost certainly on team orders.  Consequently, our shape was unfamiliar in possession, but better that, than leaving space to be exploited at the back.

Brendan Rodgers will be happy with the return he got from the players, but will look to stop so many crosses getting into the box, if he deploys a similar strategy again.

Next up, the seventh consecutive Flag Day!

It’s called “Champix” here, and has been around since 2006.

Google Champix, then speak to your GP ?

  4. Brilliant result last night….many more of them….anyway, out for a wee run before the game and came across this marvelous Bowling Club in a famous part of Glasgow’s east end….I heard that they got the instructions all mixed up and instead of getting a friendly but astute watchdog they got a very artistic brush hand.

    But where is it?

Couldn’t imagine me chucking the fags, enjoyed every one I’ve had. Ten days or so in hospital with pneumonia and not a sniff of a smoke,I decided I’d be stupid just to start again.

By that time, the nicotine was largely out of my system,so it didn’t seem wise to use patches or vapes which have nicotine in them.

    Just cold-turkey for me.

Blinkin’ flip,it’s not easy. Still reach for one about five times a day. Habit,of course.

That’ll be the difficult bit for you. When you’re in places or situations when you’d normally light up.

    Good luck,mate. You’ll get there.

on one hand, hard to argue with the result …

no goals away, so kudos to the young defence …

but, confused as the play from mid to front was poor … after second half last week, I thought we had turned a corner …. but, yesterday was back to poor passing and spacing and movement … I guess we will find out which is the real Celtic… hopefully, yesterday was a blip, and we will see more football like last week, and kick on from there

As the big birthday guy says doesn’t matter how you get off them, just get off them.

Good result. Rosenberg no pushovers. When we drew them last year we were concerned and after 1st leg right to be so. Overall…a good result. Through to the next round of a tournament totally lopsided in favour of the money inflated leagues.

Delighted that my team are still battling against those odds and into the next challenge.

For those railing against the press/media coverage….seriously do we expect anything else. We should…but we will continue to be disappointed as they can see no further than their bluenoses. I would withdraw all press accreditation from those whose sole purpose is to undermine us. The Daily Ranger and the Bluenose Broadcasting Corp do not even attempt to hide it now. The BBC continue to fawn over an organisation that has banned them yet we doff our cap to the bigots and roll out the red carpet wtf. Organisations that do mot have the word liquidation in their lexicon.

God bless the famous Glasgow Celtic

    RE : Giving up smoking

At least I had straws to occupy my hands and nibble on.

With the demise of the humble plastic straw in boozers etc it will be much more difficult.

Perseverance is key, it’s definitely worth it. But why is the best craic at pub doorways with the smokers?

My method? I found collapsing unconscious on a train due to a subarachnoid haemorrhage resulting from a ruptured aneurysm and being put into a coma to save my life did the trick. I spent five weeks in hospital and now walk around with a drain and a shunt in my skull….

  14. I am in Prague tonight, the scene of a famous boring nil nil draw.

Through the next morning prism of qualifying for the next round , nil nil draws don’t seem so bad. Although I expect that last night will fade from the memory much quicker.

  16. You have to love the entitlement complex driven negativity of some Celtic consumers.

First caller on Clyde tonight was such a dim wit.

“Celtic didnae have one player who got passmarks last night. I have said it aw summer we need two center backs” opined the new Pep G, a tactical genius for sure.

Oh and the financial wizard then says we should just ” gie Hibs the £3m and stop messing about coz we need him “.

With thick morons like this, who can’t come close to even understanding the realities of football on 2018, what chance do we have ?

Of course apart from the John McGinn suggestion he could not suggest the name of any of these great center backs we were to sign.

Meanwhile in a parallel fantasy universe my Celtic are about to raise 7th flag in a row and currently celebrating a double Treble. My Celtic are still aiming for a 3rd concecutive place in the CL proper. My Celtic have a settled and solid young squad who know what they are about with no need to panic. They are also financially solvent.

Too good to be true ?

These are great times to support Celtic. Sad for those who can’t enjoy it. Both alive malcontents and those no longer with us.

    Well said mhate.

We both remember the bad old days – almost going to the wall, tainted titles, £10 for every £5 etc etc. This is a time to be enjoyed. Yes its not perfect but that’s life. Makes me wonder what will make some people happy.

  20. I stopped smoking on 10th October 2002.

Note that wording….”I stopped smoking” not “I gave up smoking”.

    I gave up nothing!

From that first day without the need to find a smoking carriage, a smoking room, a cup of coffee, beer or snack as an excuse to make my breath smell like a Porton Down rabbit’s liver or my fingers to look like the toilet paper had torn in mid wipe, the world of doing things that I wanted to do and not what some wee insidious poisonous inanimate murderer was whispering in my ear, opened up before me, around me and my health, wellbeing and wallet became my personal three musketeers cutting a swathe through any recidivist tendencies.

Since that day, according to my calculations from when I became a non-smoker (note again when asked that’s what I was…a non-smoker, not an ex-smoker, a former smoker, a reformed smoker or similar), 5775 days have passed….at a rough estimate of £5 per day that comes to £28,875 that I have either spent on things than I really wanted to do or hidden it down the back of the couch……I’ll have a look later before I sell the couch.

Everyone’s motivation is different. Make it personal, make it angry, make it like The gunfight at The OK Coral

Make yourself Wyatt Earp and that wee scurrilous packet of death is the Claytons and the prize?

The lilting notes and words of…….”Do not forsake me oh my darling……”

    Hail Hail

I quit in almost exactly the same way. I was, honestly, at Celtic park one day, a bit hungover and feeling the effects of a bad cold as well. I smoked two fags at half time and felt thouroughly disgusting and thought “why am I doing this?” I made a mental note of how bad I felt and every time I felt the urge after that I remembered how bad I felt, tried to feel how terrible they made me feel

It only took me few days before my mind retrained itself to realize that giving into the urges didn’t bring a reward but instead led to me feeling grotty

  23. Was up helping my amigos Mrs today with a few things, she asked me if I wanted a season book for Arsenal, I knew Fred was an Arsenal fan but didn’t know he was a season book holder, neither did his Mrs, we have found a good home for it.

He has been here for twelve years, only went back a handful of times to see them, still bought his book every season, couldn’t abide the Arsen bloke.
