‘Emerald’ Green aims for Champions League

1007

There was some misunderstanding that Charles ‘Emerald’ Green’s suggestion that he was hoping to “invest in the playing side right away” might not play well with major creditor HMRC.  Capital introduced to the company after a CVA has nothing to do with a creditor’s assessment of the offer and, if anything, would offer comfort to HMRC that the company would be able to maintain future payments.

The comments are more of a challenge for the football authorities.  The independent SFA appellant panel will today assess whether to increase, reduce of remove Rangers 12 month player registration embargo.  Rangers narrative for the last two weeks is that this embargo could put them out of business.  Apparently, they need to spend MORE money in future to ensure survival.

It remains to be seen if playing victim does them any good at appeal but Green has brushed this away, Rangers now plan to put a team on the field to win the league and reach the Champions League.  Maybe not the wisest PR move.

John O’Hara, the Celtic secretary, had been unable to lure Kelly. Glass, however, was indefatigable and said he had ‘camped on his doorstep’. The 22-year-old was talked into taking part in Celtic’s first ever match, a 5-2 win over Rangers. ‘No Kelly, no Keltic’ became a catch phrase summary of the towering centre half’s significance. ‘I knew that if I could get Kelly, the rest would follow’, said Glass.

I’m disappointed that Hodgson went for Terry rather than Rio. JT always struck me as being cut from the same cloth as Joey Barton.

With regard to signing players we’ve done well recently by not looking in the obvious places- players in the EPL are getting far too much money , way beyond their genuine value.

We need to be looking at signing players along the lines of Izaguirre, Kayal, Hooper and Wanyama.

I left the game with about 5 mins or so to go (let’s not spark one of those old part-time supporters arguments!) and it was 4-2 to Dalkeith, with Fauldhouse down to 10 men. Some good football on a big big pitch.

  13. Downing is one of the reasons Dalglish has had an awful season. The other is the back-up to the squad – Jordan Henderson. I don’t think I have ever seen such an overrated midfielder of clearly limited ability and vision. His price tag (which I seem to recall was artificially inflated by Alex Ferguson’s purported interest in him) makes him first pick for Liverpool. I remain of the view that playing in a certain style, Andy Carroll can do a job. For example, Carroll could have stepped into the boots of Sutton or Hartson.

Association Branches vote for selective boycott

Much has been said and written about what could and should happen in the event of a Rangers Newco being allowed back into the SPL without the appropriate sanctions. Supporters of clubs up and down the country have made it clear that sporting integrity must take precedence over commercial interests.

We have canvassed our branches within the Celtic Supporters Association, and the vast majority have declared support for a selective bhoycott of those clubs who support the admission of a Newco.

In the event of that scenario coming to pass we would then look to consult with the other major supporters groups, and with those who have an influence within the Celtic support with a view to calling an open meeting of as many Celtic supporters as possible.

We fully understand the very difficult decision that has to be taken by some clubs regarding the potential loss of commercial revenue through the likes of live television and sponsorship deals, but that cannot be allowed to be more important than operating in a fair and just manner.

If the boot was on another foot, like that of Dundee Utd, or Kilmarnock, do these chairmen think that they would not be booted out without it being given a second thought? and that goes for all the gang of ten.

There is a long way to go until all the investigations are complete, I believe in the coming weeks stories will come out which will be even worse than is already out there, and it may well result in court proceeding taking place.

I would say to all the other supporters who are not members of the Celtic Supporters Association, give great thought and consideration to joining us in taking action in the event of a Newco being allowed back into the SPL.

There will be plenty of opportunities to voice your opinions in the coming weeks, please feel free to contact myself either through our web site, or directly.

Just by way of some additional information, I was looking at some of the figures for fans visiting Celtic Park, in the season just finished, if you don’t count Rangers fans, a combined total of less than 4,000 supporters of other teams visited Celtic Park, on Sunday one of the Scottish Cup Finalists (Hearts) brought less than 100, and they say they don’t need us, well let’s just see.

singapore celt – FF is testing the waters for a move south. I expect he’ll get an offer we can’t/won’t match, and will probably leave. (thumbsup)

    ============================

FF done exactly the same last season, we still wanted him but he refused to sign. He was then offered another loan deal, which he was also dithering over. He then had two very poor pre season friendlies and was told he was surplus to requirements at Newcastle and came back to us on loan.

He had a shaky start and was indeed replaced in the starting eleven in one of the European games by Zaluska before regaining his position. He has made some fantastic saves as the season has gone on and has got improved throughout this season.

He was part of one of the meanest defences in the league however I do not think this was mainly due to his performances. A team the size and stature of Celtic should not have a goalkeeper on loan for 2 successive seasons it is amatuerish. FF should have been told at Christmas he had until the tranfer closing date to sign a pre contract or he wouldn’t play again.

Our club should not be held ransom by a young 3rd choice goalkeeper, we don’t own him and therefore don’t need to pander to him. The last thing we now want is to keep this saga going for the summer while goalkeeping options run out. Give him a deadline of the end of May and if not signed then we look elsewhere.

No one need an agent to negotiate a deal thats up to the player. He has been here long enough to have signed a pre contract without holding the club to ransom.

  28. gordybhoy64 my understanding is that the findings of the BTC is largely irrelevant to whether HMRC accept a CVA. Even if they were to lose they would (in their own words) “appeal, appeal and appeal”. It seems certain they’ll win that case and my guess is that the only way they would sign up to a CVA is if they thought that would maximise their chances of getting future monies owed. On the other hand, if they win the BTC in the next week or two, before the CVA is presented, perhaps they’d see a winding up order as the only way to get a return. Wouldn’t that be something!

‘Because it was always thus it will always be thus’ is a fallacy. When Rangers ‘won’ their 9-in-a-row the press wallowed in that same fallacy.

But things change – financial scandals, uprisings in the middle-east, Sky hit below the waterline, exposures of Russian oligarchs – any or all of these could make the EPL a much more attractive playing environment for Celtic.

  31. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

‘a sober electorate will be an angrier electorate’- that’s why British elections are traditionally held on Thursdays; with payday generally being Friday it was believed that the lieges would have no money for grog and would therefore be less likely to cause a stramash at the ole Polling Station, demanding ‘Craig Whyte for President!’ etc etc.
