Emptying out the neighbours

Newco’s offer of 700 tickets for visiting Celtic fans next season, as reported this morning, is nothing new, it is their default position.  I have been there among this number, kettled by police 90 minutes before kick-off, then showered by bottles and lighters during the game.  Parking and walking towards Ibrox among Newco fans attending the 7,000 capacity Broomloan Stand who got there early.

Who thinks this is safe?  The kettling wasn’t, anyone who was old or with health difficulties would be traumatised by the experience.  Bottles raining on top of fans is a serious accident waiting to happen.  We won the day I was there, Newco fans left early and we were kept late, so the streets were clear by the time we left the stadium, but other results are possible.

My first visit to Ibrox was 40 years ago.  Then, Celtic fans had the whole of the Broomloan Stand, some of the Govan Stand, half of the Enclosure and a third of the Main Stand.  The stadium capacity was 44,000 and it was still not a sellout.  It was a time they could not afford to turn any Celtic fans away.

We will not be back at Ibrox in safe numbers until they need Celtic fans to buy their tickets.  The only solution to the impasse is to beat them so comfortably and so often that they need us to buy lots of tickets.  It is harsh, because they are our neighbours and this is not neighbourly, but for the sake of football in Glasgow, we need to absolutely wipe the floor with them for so many years thousands of their fans simply stop turning up.

I think this is a challenge worth undertaking.

    Cricket World Cup Final Qualifier.

    Scotland 277 for 9 in 50 overs.

Netherlands going in to bat chasing 278.

Because of Scotland’s superior Net Run Rate, the Dutch have to reach the target in 44 overs or less to win.

    Scotland should stroll it.

Damned Vale Bhoy. A rascal. Good afternoon all from the Queens Park Cafe. Have we bought/sold/ anybody this week?

  4. Send the tickets back.

They can’t ensure safety of a couple of ex Celtic pundits. What’s the chances for 7k?

  5. Many years ago a guy I used to drink with stood up to make a statement in our local bar, after a gallon of Porter.

” I hate Golf and I hate Cricket,” he stated as gently wobbled on his stool. ” However,” he continued, “at least in cricket they throw the the feckn ball back to you.”

If we can reach a situation where they are selling few enough tickets that they need our supporters back in, we should refuse to buy them and hasten their progress towards their demise.

  7. Paul I think the more astute amongst the blue realise that Brendan is back and the scenario you outline is more than likely ………..they will start to go back to the Motherwells and St Mirren’s very soon just as they did in the eighties .

  8. Covid Health Update

Since my initial positive report end of last week things have gone downhill. Like a poor second half.

Covid in serious threat to lungs. I’ve been transferred to ICU and undergoing oxygen therapy and a standard protocol of a drug regime with Remdesivir and a couple of others.

60% success rate but my immune suppressants reduce survival chances.

So please offer a prayer and /or positive thoughts.

  9. ‘GG – Sorry to read about your ongoing health concerns. Hang in there and get yourself back home soon where you can put your feet up and watch the bhoys getting back into it. Sending lots of positive thoughts from MN.

    Covid Health Update

Wee prayer to one of Glasgow’s favourite saints – Saint Roch – for you, and anyone else toiling at this time:

‘O most merciful God, who through an angel promised Saint Roch, that whoever would invoke his name should be preserved from pestilence and contagious disease, grant that through his intercession we may be preserved from all dangers, both of soul and body, through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen.’

  12. ‘GG – sorry to hear of your problems. I pray you make a full recovery and are with us for a long time to come 💪💚

Scotland definitely not strolling it. Sadly snatching defeat from the jaws of victory it seems so far.

Dire bowling performance. Good Dutch batting to come also.

Honestly I hope I am as wrong as I was on Tuesday. I really think we botched the batting. Needed another 30 or 40 runs. We could have had these but the captain never scores better than 4 or 5 an over.

  14. Thinking of you in thoughts and prayers GG.

I am sure you are in good hands there. Hopefully the good and positive thoughts of so many can give you strength to beat this.
