Enough with the self-fulfilling excuses for failure

We dropped points at Pittodrie on Saturday but should have buried the home side in the first half and then our two January signings combined to produce a goal.  There were enough positive signs to have me relaxed ahead of last night’s game against Hibs.

What’s more, we scored with a penalty kick awarded after four minutes.  Hibs fans, who have watched two consecutive 0-3 home defeats, must have feared for the worst.  Almost two hours later they left the ground feeling robbed.

Before the equaliser our play was poor.  Forward passes were very low percentage efforts, often trying to find Daizen Maeda who was marked and could neither catch a long ball in front of him or find space to drop deep and control.  “We need a second goal” was doubtlessly mumbled by each of us, despite the fact that Hibs had not made a single attempt at goal.

After they equalised from the second ball at a free kick, Celtic collapsed.  Hibs piled forward through shredded lines and would have made the points safe if they were more competent in front of goal.  Celtic also made chances but just like Hibs, each move was poorly executed and often ended without an actual attempt being made.

A defending block on Kyogo in the 90th minute failed to stop the shot, but caught the shin of our Japanese striker.  VAR reviewed the incident and referred referee Nick Walsh to the monitor.  I know what you would all have been saying had this happened elsewhere!

At the risk of jinxing him, Adam Idah has a 100% career conversion rate from 15 penalties, good enough to win Celtic three points last night.  He’s worth a fortune to us for that quality alone.  After the game Brendan Rodgers was able to point to various excuses for the performance: disruption in the team being the most valid.

Alexandro Bernabei had his best game for Celtic – the boy can tackle – but he and Maeda on the left looked like they had never met.  Bar those opening four minutes, the defensive line had only one of our first choice starters, and was further disordered when Stephen Welsh went off.

Nicolas Kuhn and Tony Ralston may actually have said little more to each other than “Hello”, so our unstructured right wing was no surprise.  When Luis Palma arrived on the left we were at least able to hold onto possession in an advanced position, a quality Maeda was unable to deliver before him.  Again, Joe Hart did enough to add to our points tally.  These reasons sounded plausible until I remembered that disruptive new arrivals at Ross County were an excuse for helping them at Celtic Park.

Brendan, any one of us reading this could have done as well in the dugout last night.  You need to put a team on the field that can dominate and win against Premiership sides with 10% of your financial resources and who would be embarrassed by the money you spent.

Against Ross County, Aberdeen and now Hibs, teams on terrible runs of form, we are a soft touch.  Enough with the self-fulfilling excuses for failure, you have the resources to comfortably win these games.  It is your responsibility to get it right, or just own up if you can’t do the job without Chris Davies.

Yes, the passion was certainly there after the game..

Incidentally, we appointed Adam Sadler who used to work with BR at Leicester as 1st team coach in December. Subsequently i do not think the loss of Chris Davis is as great as Paul 67 makes out.

    Noted.

Reminds me of the Gerrard / Beale dynamic a little.

We were all led to believe that Beale was the brains behind them stopping the 10.

We all know what happened when he was made no 1.

I’ve always thought if any no2 was a genius why haven’t they made no1 ?

The only Celt who might have scored a goal like the one Hibs scored , is currently an ex Celt plying his trade in Cardiff . We need someone to take over his mantle . Can sometimes take away the pain of trying to walk the ball through an organised defence .

Whoops, maybe I couldn’t accept the idea of Killie beating us twice in the first part of the season.

Remember losing to them at home in the league under Neil Lennon

“He has blown strong positions in the premiership with Liverpool and Leicester (twice) and some may say he ran away when we were at the run in stage at Celtic.”

Well you say that, I have it on good authority all that was down to Chris Davies…

….”And yet the following day he was off down south for further talks with the Foxes as they had now contrived to drop another 16 points, so Claude was given the bum’s rush and the newly labelled fraudgers was unveiled on national telly with his big cheesy grin from the former Filbert Street stand.

When Fraudgers did his midnight flit with his backroom staff, unbeknown to the Celtic Executive.

At what point was the convoluted and detailed compensation agreement negotiated and agreed.

Why did the Celtic Executive fail to tell their supporters that they had been on protracted negotiations about the deal and secured a record Nine Million Pound package before they gave Brendan Rodgers permission to go and speak to “the foxes”!?

Why did Peter Lawwell not thank Brendan Fraudgers for securing him a £3,200,000.00 bonus that year?

    Hail Hail

I’d target those that identified our 21 million worth of signings. Some terrible signings. Today’s article sounds like the fan anger about nepotism has triggered a response from the chief target through the usual channels.

  8. I see that supposed Celtic sites have decided that to divide and conquer they will run stories on how:

    1. how Kyogo is disinterested.

    2. How Abada is disinterested.

Both players are struggling for form and obviously feeling the pressure – how would they not! Celtic supporters would SUPPORT them.

My God, are Celtic fans so gullible??????????????

  9. I see they have now targeted Paul 67 himself.

Oh, dear. The Huns must be loving it.

This site is getting more like the Celtic view of the early 90s which was often referred to as Pravda.Peter Lawwell returning to the club has led to a toxic relationship between the fans and the board and has unsettled the team particularly when the Green Brigade were banned and the Bhoys boycotted the games in solidarity. Several points were dropped during this stand off which enabled ‘rangers’ to draw level on points with us on Tuesday.Celtic have spent some money this season but not on the quality players that Brendan was hoping for in positions that needed upgraded but on projects only one of which,Palma, went straight into the team.when you consider the money we received for Jota,Starfelt and recently David Turnbull how much did we actually spend ?Does Paul 67 really believe we have come out of these last 2 windows stronger as Peter Lawwell used to say was our aim for each window?

  12. Beamishmypint,

Agree. Lawwell/Lawwell in desperate moves to shift the blame onto Rodgers.

Paul67 obliges with his attack on the manager. It’s so blatant and vitriolic it’s almost as if they would have preferred Celtic to lose last nite.

After the game the usual idiots on X were having a go at Rodgers — and they sensed an opportunity to jump on the bandwagon, however they have miscalculated.

The (true) Celtic support (not those with heavy vested personal interest) believe their is a title to win and Rodgers breaking his duck at Easter Road could be the catalyst for the team going on a run. The victory does not paper over the weakness off the team due to shambolic recruitment ,injuries to key players and players off forum. There is a title to be won and having players back, players stepping up and the fans behind the team we have a chance.

What we are seeing from Paul67 is the end of the Lawwell dynasty before it started. The spectacular failings of insurance man and curator of Man City web page (no laughing at the back) Mark Lawwell has seen to that. His daddy is now attacking the manager through his media puppets. They are lashing out at the manager to bring him down with the them. Our support to the manager and team will be crucial.

If we lose this league the revenue swing between the clubs is the ultimate six pointer — the swing would be £120M in sevco’s favour. Add to that the £20M Mark Lawwell burned then the Lawwell dynasty is £140M off the pace.

Mark Lawwell is finished at Celtic , nobody will sanction his reckless betting. Maybe they push him to do the Celtic website. Why is he still here as he is a symbol that gross incompetence is acceptable.

Its ironic that Lawwell’s arrogance has been his downfall by putting a complete rookie in place —- albeit his son.

Peter Lawwell is toxic and needs to resign as he starts his campaign to take the manager out. He knows now he will never be accepted and his son is toast. Good riddance to both off them and other charlatans who rather see the team lose the title in order to force the manager out. Really vindictive people who would be more at home at Ibrox.

  13. Brendan thought the Club could have been braver, Paul67 believes that the failed data based decision making process is the only show in town. Celtic are top of the SPL and have a Cup tie to play on Sunday. Brendan is the Manager and Coach, Paul67 is His Master’s Voice, and possibly has been since the Dawn of this site. We need to get behind Brendan, his staff, Callum and the Celtic team and players from here on in all the way to to the end of the season. That will give us our best chance of success.

  14. I’d take Brendan Rodgers every day of the week over Fat Cat Lawell and his Heated Driveway Productions.

What that man did to those who grafted on RES 12 should have ensured that he would never darken the doors of our football club again, yet here he is, poisoning the well all over again.

It beggars belief that a grown man, who should know better is going out to bat for him on a daily basis, and getting more desperate as the days go by.

Next ye will be sticking pins in voodoo dolls because the voices are telling you to.

TT- So stand back and watch this shitshow which is of our own making, carry on,and accept it?

*I never said that but constantly bitching on here isnae going tae change anything

  16. St Stivs,

If we win the the CL loot race we are £60M up on revenue next season by conservative calculation’s.

However if Sevco win the title they will be £60M better off.

The revenue swing between the clubs is £120M — a game changer ( metaphorically a 6-pointer game).

This league title will set the tone for the next decade.

Thats’s why this is such a perilous situation for Peter Lawwell. He has screwed up on a biblical scale by putting his rookie son in charge of recruitment.

The desperation and panic has spread to Paul67— they know it’s too late. Can’t wait until the toxic chairman leaves the club —- and takes his pups with him.

  17. Lucky.

    Except it is not.

If god forbid Celtic don’t win the league. Well they can still qualify to cl via the qualifiers.

And even then if they do not they go into the Europa.

All these predictions are stupid inflated nonsense.

  18. Lucky.

Winning the league and direct qualifier we are not up 60 million on this season’s participation.

We earned 24 million this year.

Next year’s earnings would be circa 30 millions.

  19. Message to BR : We had better win the league, because I won’t be able to afford to drown my sorrows if we don’t. Whopping rise on alcohol

I have had a look a the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which was signed by both UEFA and the ECA, and covers the period 2024-2030, signed 06 Sept 2023, and if I understand it correctly, Celtic FC in the CL will pick up just under £20mill before a ball is kicked. Co-efficient and performance payments will add to that plus a share of the new Broadcast deals, not to mention a minimum of four home CL games which could be worth at least £3 mill each. Wouldn’t like to put a final number on overall value at this stage, suffice to say the vast majority of the overall income will go to CL paticipants, 75% of net of costs of all three Euro Cup I think. SPL will benefit too, but if I am not mistaken, and there are variables, your figure of £30 mill is way way short of the mark. Got to qualify first of course, SPL Champions offers the best route forward.

    And supporting the team.

  21. Cheers.

30 million for being in the group stage. And Scottish share of media right

Everything else is performance related. Matches attendance and points won.

Long way to get to sixty millions.

Especially with the malcontents boycott .

  24. Saint Stivs good try but so many who “pay their wages” have made up their minds. Facts don’t really matter at this stage, I mean the owners of the club have made £120 million to reinvest in the football team and stadium, well they might lose someone, who doesn’t own anything, lose £60 million or even a squillion. I have yet to see a single naysayer do anything positive except wash their bedsheets. FFS follow follow is looking more sane these days and that’s saying something. We need to get better, the football on the field has been below our normal standards. if guessing whether it’s the players, manager, coach, scouts or board, and apportioning blame make you feel better go for it, I hope you get well.

  25. We have among our stadium support a number who have ulterior reasons for attending Celtic Park and other stadia, both home and abroad, when Celtic is playing.

Their reasons are self-evident to any season ticket-holder or, a subscriber to the channels that broadcast Celtic away fixtures – I am in that category.

Political activism – IRA supporting – Obscene songs about dead people from our rival’s camp and in recent seasons Flares/Pyro.

How in the name of God the overwhelming majority is letting these things happen week in, and, week out, perplexes me?

This faction(s) are not there primarily to support Celtic, rather it uses the platform that Celtic provides to carry out its role as the “we don’t give a f***” brigade.

They don’t give a f*** about Celtic’s finances having cost the club almost one million Euros in fines.

They don’t give a f*** about Celtic’s hard-won reputation at home and abroad as a club open to all.

They don’t give a f*** when they sing about “joining the IRA” – what the heck has the IRA to do with Celtic?

This and songs about dead people tarnishes the club’s standing within the rest of the football industry in the UK, and influences negative public opinion.

They don’t give a f*** about bringing dangerous flares and pyrotechnics into a closely-packed crowd, as witnessed two days ago in Edinburgh. Will it take a fatality for someone to act decisively here? It is not a problem for society, it is a problem caused by football idiots who think they are above the law.

We must stop these people using Celtic as their vehicle. They have no respect for the club and should have no place in. or, around it. They will drive other supporters away eventually.
