Europa failure would compound acute challenge for also-rans

1087

I’m not going to laugh at results against Luxembourgers or Lithuanians – it’s not so long since Gibraltarians bloodied the nose of a team who went on to become invincible treble winners. Scottish clubs have a long history of pitching up in June and July wholly unprepared for European football.

These results only retain the ability to concern if they are not resolved by remarkably improved performances. Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic grew in stature last summer until they became a competitive Champions League team in the autumn. Others may do the same this season.

What will be clear long before the lottery of the European play-off rounds, is where the gaping chasm exists in Scottish football: are Celtic our only team competitive in Europe, or is there at least one other?

Neither you nor I care who competes in the Europa League, but failure there if Celtic progress to the Champions League will compound an already acute challenge for the Scottish also-rans.

    Interesting question.

These are civil proceedings but of course, civil proceedings can lead to criminal proceedings (see Oscar Wylde).

On 20th May 2011, in relation to the wee tax case, HMRC wrote to Rangers PLC demanding money by way of back taxes which arose “due to the deliberate failure or fraudulent behaviour of the company.”

Rangers PLC have never contested that they were due to pay this money nor the grounds upon which it was claimed.

Note, that despite not being paid, no criminal proceedings have ensued ………. as yet.

    Thanks for the reply.

If that wee tax case is a potential case from criminal charges who/what would face these charges as they are liquidated?

For someone not in the habit of making predictions on a blog that is fair summary of we might just briefly hear or read about the SC judgement.

If your prediction is accurate it will be the best piece of news since we last one a treble.

    What say you??

    Keep the Faith!

  6. There’s no chance whatsoever of the huns or anyone involved with them being prosecuted for tax evasion.

The fact that the FTT and Lord Doherty found in their favour would be enough on its own to rule it out.

The Supreme Court will dismiss the appeal, though there will probably be at least one dissenting judgement, just to show they were paying attention.

I’d love one of them to query why the FTT sat in private, though I doubt that will happen.

And Celtic will say and do nothing. Obviously.

That is shocking but not surprising, this was a national disaster and if plans exist for such an occurence it was not implemented.

I think we can safely assume the rent thing is an admin oversight? Unfortunate all the same but surely an error?
