Europe in July, heavy legs and waning concentration

602

After losing the second leg against Salzburg in last season’s Champions League 3rd qualifying round, Qarabag eliminated Twente Enschede on away goals before having a good Europa League group stage.

Draws home and away to Saint Etienne, a home draw against Inter after a two goal defeat in the San Siro, and a win and a loss against Dnipro is enough form to suggest Celtic have a match on their hands.

On the positive side, Qarabag are also preseason, play on grass and Baku, their home city, is four hours ahead of Glasgow, so they will have a small jetlag adjustment to make for Wednesday’s game.  The final whistle will go after 1:30 in the morning Baku time.  Players find the latter part of any big game tiring, more so early in the season, so we have to push hard late in this game.  Qarabag will be vulnerable as concentration wanes and legs get heavy.

This tie feels very much like the Shakhter Karagandy play-off tie two years ago.  Shakhter arrived with a solid two goal lead, but an impassioned Celtic Park pushed us over the line.  A similar intensity will be required on and off the field on Wednesday.

What’s our chances?  Not sure, but we’ve a serious challenge on our hands.

Experts baffled by popularity of politician with ‘principles’

    July 27, 2015

Politicians and commentators have admitted to being utterly baffled as to the appeal of principled politician, Jeremy Corbyn.

“No one can quite fathom Jeremy’s appeal,” said a Labour insider.

“For some reason people are enjoying hear someone speak with conviction on their own beliefs rather than toss off the usual centrist, benefit-hating, corporate-loving, vote-for-me-and-you’ll-get-a-bigger-bag-of-crisps rhetoric that they’ve been force-fed since the height of Thatcher-ism.”

Andrew Rawsley from the Observer concurred.

“Look, everyone knows that they only way Labour can win elections in this country is by being Tories with different coloured ties, so what’s the point of actually putting together an alternative?”

“Bring back Tony Blair, Oasis, and bombing Iraq,” he concluded.

Other candidates for the Labour leadership, rocked by the notion that they might actually have to put together a more coherent argument than ‘Mr Cameron is a nasty man,’ are scrabbling to find a way to defeat Mr Corbyn.

“We’re focus-grouping like mad,” said one of Yvette Cooper’s team.

“Trying to find the most popular principles that Yvette should have, then she’ll adopt them and speak from the heart. Easy.”

Liz Kendall’s team were taking a different approach.

“Blind optimism and hating poor people, it’s a solid foundation for the Labour leadership.”

Whereas Andy Burnham was taking a more pragmatic approach.

“He’s got a beard as he’s been around since the eighties,” said a Burnham insider

    “We’ll just claim he’s a paedophile.”

It is expected the fad for a principled politician will end once people realise that it will involve people paying slightly more tax.

    For non ST holders

    Qarabag =£22

Ross Co on flag day = £29

£61(before you think of taking a wean) for one week is a lot to ask for some, I would not have even been able to begin to think of making both without the kindness of others,

    ———————————————————————————————————————

Ross Co. tickets from £26 according to website. Still far too much for a SPL match, flag day or no flag day. There’s no SPL fixture worth more than £20. Best bet is buy tickets from other supporters who are usually happy to get rid of surplus tickets for around £20.

Celtic TV: We are still negotiating rights for Wednesday’s match.

Our aim is to be able to show live video outside the UK & Ireland.

It may be Tuesday before we can confirm. Thanks

GG …. thanks for that. I have subscribed to Celtic TV for years now, and, as you say, I have always had the best customer service from them. The feed has improved remarkably over the years. Generally, I think it is a good product.

My only problem is when I try to run the picture through my TV screen. It is very pixilated, but that is most likely my fault …

i am a complete numpty when it comes to computer stuff, but I will try playing about with it again (which translates to….. I will give it a try, and after half an hour of swearing, I will break down and ask my little niece if she will take pity on her stupid old uncle and help him with his computer when she is back in town!)

  25. i was checking the interactive seating plan for the potential purcghase of a season card,

very noticeable that you cant buy a seat in the lions stand, in the sections that would have been occupied by the maurading zombie monkey huns, if they had been promoted.

now it gives celtic plc a good dilemma, why not allow the purple cousins on the former huns, or the dandy wandy any pandy dons supporters take as many seats as they want when they visit paradise.

create new / old rivalries, back to the 80’s.

  29. Lhads and Lhasses –

Last Thursday I purchased tickets for Wednesday’s online. It’s now Monday and I’m hoping they arrive on Tuesday. Or am I mistaken – do I now just use my season card which will cleverly ‘know’ that I’ve bought the ticket?
