EX-CELT AXED: 9 GAMES, NO WINS, NO JOB

FORMER Celtic midfielder Paul Hartley has been sacked as Hartlepool manager.

The ex-Scotland international was axed following the 2-0 loss to Sutton at the weekend that saw the team without a win after nine league games and second bottom of the English fourth tier.

Hartley, 45, only took over the club in June after quitting Cove Rangers. He has previously managed Alloa, Dundee and Falkirk.

Assistant gaffer Gordon Young has also been relieved of his duties at the struggling club. The managerial duo brought in players such as Jake Hastie, Euan Murray, Reghan Tumility, Brody Paterson, Jack Hamilton and Mouhamed Niang from a variety of Scottish clubs during the summer.

However, the axe fell after the most recent defeat and the League Two club are now searching for fourth boss in a year.

Jack Ross, who was given the chop by Dundee United after the 9-0 hammering from Celtic last month, and Graham Alexander, who was sacked following Motherwell’s Europa League Conference exit to Sligo Rovers, have both been mentioned as possible candidates by the local media.
