EX-CELTIC DUO AXED

FORMER Celtic duo Mark Wilson and Simon Donnelly have been sacked by League Two Brechin City.

The axe fell on manager Wilson and assistant Donnelly after the Angus outfit lost their first two opening league games of the season.

Plus the Glebe Park side had also conceded seven goals to St Johnstone and six to Dundee United in two Betfred League Cup games.

Wilson, 36, who also had a stint as head coach at Airdire, was manager of the club for 13 months while Donnelly only arrived seven weeks ago.

A club statement read: “Brechin City announce that Manager Mark Wilson and Assistant Manager Simon Donnelly have been released from their contracts and have left the Club with immediate effect.

“The Club would like to thank Mark and Simon for their service and will now commence the search for a new Management Team.”

The side finished bottom of the Scottish senior league structure last season – only being spared the possibility of the drop by the SPFL resolution which curtailed the campaign following lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Brechim slumped to the foot of the fourth tier again when they were walloped 3-0 by Elgin City after kicking off the campaign with a 5-1 flop to Edinburgh City.
