Fan power begins to flex its muscle

1098

I am sure Neil Doncaster’s job is full of stresses and strains but this week will probably be a breeze.  Fans of every club in the league appear to be in uproar at the resolutions for an Insolvency Transfer Event to be voted on later this month. Infuriating everyone is surely better than infuriating most but leaving one group happy.

Fans of 11 SPL clubs have reacted in horror that the league seek to introduce a facility to allow a liquidated club to phoenix straight back into the top tier of Scottish football.  Fans of Rangers, while along with administrators and bidders for the club are publicly opposed to liquidation, are outraged that this new facility to allow a new club entry to the SPL should carry a sporting and financial inhibitor.

For clarification: the inhibitor is there to ensure clubs have a modicum of moral hazard against gaining an unfair advantage before ditching creditors and their old skins, and emerging in the SPL with player registrations from another club but without the debts or consequences of mismanagement.

Rangers US and Singapore based bidders seem unperturbed by the proposals.  Paul Murray’s Blue Knights consortium has curiously lost its tongue.  Maybe this helps explain all those years when the EBTs were unopposed by the former Rangers board.  Silence, not even an utterance!

There remains three possible outcomes to this issue:

The proposed SPL resolutions will be passed, allowing a Newco straight entry to the League.

The resolutions will fail and the SPL board will vote a Newco into the league anyway.

The resolutions will fail and the SPL board will deny Newco a place in the league.

Celtic Quick News first flagged this scenario in October last year when we predicted Newco would be given a parachute into the SPL, opposed only by Celtic.  As the key resolution (2A) requires only 8 votes I still expect this to happen, despite the ‘Bring it on’ view of many Rangers fans to the prospect of starting again from Division Three.

As the financial penalty resolution (2B) requires 11 votes I expect this to fail and no financial penalties to be imposed.

The question for Kilmarnock, Dunfermline, St Mirren, Inverness, Motherwell, St Johnstone, Hibs and Kilmarnock (don’t tell me they’ll not try to get two votes, they have a huge mountain of debt to service and have every right to demand two votes) is, will they listen to their fans or their bank manager?

Dundee United and Hearts, like North Korea, appear convinced of their own superior wisdom and, like a North Korean missile, could head off in any random direction to demonstrate their contempt for clubs scared of providing satirists with material.  They could easily vote themselves into a Gorgie-Tannadice League, if they could agree on a Gorgie-Tannadice/Tannadice-Gorgie naming convention.

For now, if you care about any of this, participate in the online SPL Fan Survey.  We’ll soon find out who runs Scottish football, fans or the Bank of Scotland! One additional point about democracy, it carries responsibility. In this instance, stopping Newco means fans of all remaining clubs have to step forward in increasing numbers to buy season tickets. This is the cost of sporting integrity.

  1. If anyone on here can tweet G.Spiers can they ask him why for months they have been saying that no one will know what is happening with the taxcase and now last night on SSB he said they’ll be found guilty.

    Why the sudden change ?

  2. Hi Petec – game was fantastic and that was the best we had played all year. I had a great party with friends after it too. Brilliant. I think the team has performed well and their is excellent potential. As I always say we should strengthen where necessary – I still feel we are a bit light up front – another good striker is what is required.

As for formations etc – the only thing we should do is ensure Samaras plays from the start and not start with Hooper and Stokes?

I am confident about Sunday – more confident than I was before the Killie game – for some reason the League Cup just aint our tournament.

    Cheers

  3. @fritzagrandold: Mark Dingwall’s Rangers Supporters Trust http://t.co/vw5Ik6NI Nice bunch. A lot of media time. A lot of Blue Knight handholding….

They have the cheek to moan at Joe O’Rourke the scumbags.

Sami does grunge Cobain style…Paddy and Efrain do after gig party…will need stools for Kris and Emilio so they reach the mikes

Sami does grunge Cobain style. Can I just say I’d pay good money to see that.

  5. NegAnon2,

It was a really special day, when I think about it now I’m getting tingles. I’m with you about strengthening as much as possible now. IMO the midfield is a Celtic midfield, when our full backs are up to speed, I am happy with both of them.

We need a monster defender in at the back and an experienced operator up top or a very exciting up and comer.

Samaras, despite probably being the poorest performer at rugby park, should definitely be one of the first names on the sheet. Last week was an easy game really but we need more consistent Big game players. Beram back for the CL qualifiers will be crucial.

  6. The quality of caller on radio Clyde varies from very good to very poor. I’m sure there are several regular callers who are on this blog regularly. Considering Alex Thomson will be on Clyde on Monday , it would be good if we could somehow coordinate that some of the eloquent ‘big hitters’ call in on Monday. Regular caller Terry (keevins’ nemesis) Is one that springs to mind. I’m sure Clyde will arrange that Spiers and maybe King are there on Monday.

  7. Celtic were awesome, as an American NFL commentator might describe last week’s demolition job on Kilmarnock and let’s hope we get the same again please as the Neil pushes for that elusive big double on Sunday.

Hard work was the main ingredient in Celtic’s performance last week with every player – just like Barcelona- working to retrieve the ball once posession was lost. None more so than Scott Browne with his shaven skull-tight US marine hair cut who reminded me of Roy Keane at the height of his powers. Scott like Charlie are players who have really blossomed under Neil Lennon’s stewardship.

I imagine Neil Lennon will have no problems with his selection for Sunday’s match after the squad’s brilliance last week.

At the beginning of March, the SFA wrote to every club in Scotland (including RFCIA) demanding they own up if they made any secret player payments.

Stewart Regan’s letter insisted failure to respond by April 6 could result in sanctions.

    Emby hear anything recently?

Or is it being put on the back burner like the SPL invetigation into double contracts?

Maybe failure to repond to the “letter” will result in swift punishment.

On the other hand, actually using double contracts for a period of 20 years…

I believe the results of these investigations will be announced 10 days after the conclusion of the investigation into sectarian singing, from official Rangers party, at the behind closed doors UEFA game in Milan.

Why are we waiting? Oh why are we waiting? Why are we waiting oh Why? Why?Why?

  14. Evening Bhoys, just going to start having a few rums and guinness tonight while I remember my da. He has been dead now 19 years and its his birthday today. I was thinking how he would have looked on all this stuff regarding the orcs. I remember asking him what his greatest ever memory was his answer surprised me, in order of greatest he stated running out to play against the Hoops at Celtic Park as his number 1, The Hoops winning the Big Cup number 2 and the real surprise having to pull Albert Murphy off of Simpson of the orcs after Albert had hit him with a sweet right hook. Now I can understand hooking any orc, but to put this in context my da was known as a gentle giant in football circles and was a devout man who never swore once in his life. I and my brothers nearly choked on our drinks. So guys if you don’t mind am gonnae raise a glass or two to my old man tonight and think that he is looking down with a wee smile tonight.

  18. Isnt it interesting that whenever we get a winning Celtic manager our media immediately starts to hint at the manager leaving etc. McCall on Clyde now giving it Lennon needs a bigger challenge cos the huns are going to be crap. BBC also making a big deal of Neil reviewing his position at end of season.

Meanwhile of course Rangers must be saved – no matter what – no matter what.

Anyone else think it odd that Jabba & his fellow agenda monkies are now discussing the Div3 option (well it shouldn’t be an option, should it!) ??

Is this just more crude expectation management, or is Minty trying to scare off other bidders?

Trust none of them. Question everything.

Sammy hat trick on Sammy Sunday (MIB allowing).

  21. If I didn’t know better, I’d think that pressure was building on on the SFA to apply ‘the ultimate sanction’ to Rangers. Even on Clyde they’re finding it hard to argue against and can only come up with arguments about how saving them is for the good of scottish football.

I normally agree with Lawrie the Celtic fan on Snyde,,,but tonight im afraid he is 100% wrong!!
