Fine-tuning Tommy Burns methods

Almost exactly 10 years after Celtic fans alleged Porto’s adherence to the rules was less than faithful, when they won the Uefa Cup after extra time, their creative genius, Deco, failed a drugs test a substance used to mask performance-enhancing substances were found in his blood.

Is anyone surprised?

Congratulations to the Celtic under-20 team on securing league and cup double, the fourth consecutive season Celtic youths have recorded this achievement.  John Kennedy and Stevie Frail’s operation is years ahead of what was previously known as their domestic competition.

Celtic have been fine-tuning youth development since Tommy Burns returned from Amsterdam all those years ago with new strategies, some of which are still being used.  The cream graduate as Champions League players, but Celtic are pretty much running elite-level youth development in Scotland, a fact made clear when you look at the enormous number of Celtic training academy graduates earning a living across the rest of the league.

It used to be the case that Celtic wasted young talent.  Perceived wisdom was “Go to Aberdeen or Dundee United, they’ll turn you into a player”.  The opposite is now true.

I think they’re right but here’s the thing. If they do make it until June. Their punishment next season will be 1/3 of this season’s points total. So it’s now in their interest to get no more points. Any bets on them losing the next three games?

  2. sipsini

Leeds waited until they were relegated and then went into administration thinking it would have no material impact as they would start afresh the next season. The FA took a different stance and increased their points deduction as felt they were cheating.

Hearts fans are right as if they last until season over they will only be deducted points next season and as it stands that will be 13 or 14 points depending on how many they end up with this season. If they go into admin before end of season they will be deducted 17 points and could end up relegated.

Another thing regarding Celtic’s youth development is that the quality of player in Scotland has gone down over the years but Celtic are more than punching above the curve in terms of developing these players to the highest standards that they can achieve. Not every player who comes through our doors at 10, 13, 16 etc can go on to have a successful career at Celtic but quite a large number do go on to play at a reasonably high standard.

Hours spent by primary school and secondary school boys on general exercise with most of the free hours spent kicking a ball have been reducing in recent decades, this has led to Scotland’s low present position in the footballing world, and we are still continuing to drop down the rankings

Celtic have at present a scheme in position detail below

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/celtic/6175047/Celtic-breaking-new-ground-with-European-style-youth-development.html

Young players at Celtic get the best of everything, coaching, hours spent practicing, quality of opposition, sports science, etc etc we are miles ahead of any other club, we should be the club of choice for young players.

Tony Watt was a raw talent very raw, he has benefitted enormously from Lennoxtown and the quality coaching he received, even at 16 if the potential is there it just needs the right environment to flourish

Having said all of the above its still no guarantee of success in producing those C/L players, developing young players still has an element of luck to it

    Thanks for the reply.

My wee lad was in one of the community programmes and when the money was squeezed, they had to stop running the team my boy was playing in.

A wee side note, well a couple actually.

The wee guy who was the best in the team and scored goals for fun with a fantastic left foot and was also the best player in the team IMO, is now playing in the Dumarton team as well.

Aidan was the same height as him 3 years ago. The wee chap has had problems with his breathing a few times over the years, usually when he hasn’t been outside kicking a ball in Winter, anyway the Doctor has put him on Steroids twice (alongside another drug to deal with the real ailment) more funds to pharmaceuticals to prescribe 2 drugs rather than one. ?????

Aidan is about 3 inches taller than the wee leftwinger now.

  15. THE Lithuanian bank that is owed

£15 million by Hearts FC has

    entered bankruptcy proceedings –

three months after being shut down

    Administrators were today

appointed to Ukio Bankas AB at

the request of the central bank

but the troubled bank has 10 days

It is not yet known what impact

    the bank’s administration might

have on Hearts FC but earlier this

    week Tynecastle chiefs did not

deny that their debt could be

    called in.

    A report from Vilinius in

decided how and when to recover

    assets belonging to Ukio Bankas,

which include a stake in Hearts
