Forget histrionics and win 15-in-a-row

443

The off-field histrionics that a visit to Tynecastle invariably brings is of little interest today.  For now, don’t really care about the history of this fixture or the disposition of the natives.  Such matters pale into insignificance beside the three points on offer to the team who have won 14 consecutive games in domestic football, a run that extends back to October.

Neil Lennon and his players will let others worry about life’s dramas, the likely influence of Hearts fifth winding-up order, served this week, the “political situation” that has a bearing on Hearts team selection, or even the 2-0 defeat at the same venue four months ago.  They will instead focus on how to deliver a disciplined performance against a team who have recorded unlikely highs and lows this season.

10-man Hearts put five goals past St Mirren last month but were lucky to leave Tynecastle with a draw against 10-man St Johnstone at the weekend after Cillian Sheridan ran them ragged.  They are neck-and-neck with St Johnstone in the league, both of whom have slipped six points behind Motherwell in the chase for what may yet become a Champions League spot.

The biggest decision for Neil Lennon may be in defence.  Celtic have lost only two league goals in their last nine outings (they lost 12 in the previous nine), which has been crucial in their push to the top of the league.  This has seen opportunities for now-fit Kelvin Wilson limited.  Kelvin played a full 90 minutes in the Scottish Cup against Inverness on Saturday and will give the manager a decision to make.

Happy Birthday to Martin42, 70 years of refusing to take life too seriously.  A win tonight would give us a better birthday reference point than the cold and miserable night at Celtic Park 12 years ago.

Believe it or not, I read “War and Peace” only about 18 months ago. Took me all of 4 weeks too.

  3. We need to win tonight, and we will,we do not want to give them the opportunity to go top of the league if they beat Dunfermline on Saturday.

Those pesky Tims are everywhere! Haha

DEEP in suburban Adelaide, South Australia, Mr and Mrs McGowan will just be rising for the day when Hearts meet Celtic at Tynecastle. By the time they arrive at work, son Ryan will have blitzed their mobile phones with messages of delightful ribbing if the final result goes his way.

The Hearts defender’s family is dominated by Celtic supporters with both his parents originally from Glasgow. The time difference means they will monitor events from Tynecastle on television before heading out on Thursday morning. Many within the McGowan clan have already had their say on this evening’s encounter.

He looks and sounds like he’s been mugged in broad daylight. Small wonder.

  6. Will be on an aircraft tonight on the way to Hong Kong just about with 15 minutes to go at Tynecastle so I hope for my nerves the Hoops are out of sight at that point and I can relax.

Travel plans are crap at the moment, missing too much football including the League Cup final, thank goodness for the Timternet to keep me updated.

I think Hearts will play Driver tonight with Templeton out as he is back fit so Adam Matthews will need to be on the ball, he is fast that wee fella!

Mon the Hoops, stuff the cousins of Mordor at Swynecastle tonight and get my holiday off to a good start!

I read War and Peace when I was fourteen, due to a long absence from school.

    School would have been better.

Think yourself lucky you don’t still live in the UK,btw. It’s virtually impossible to read using these low-energy lightbulbs we’re forced to use over here.

In fact,I think that’s why I’m having such a poor run at the bookies-cannae see the form to read it properly!

How is the verdict of the FTT released? Will there be a date set and then it will appear on a publication of some sort?

  11. Anybody looking for something a bit different for their CSC’s can check out this website in the US. I haven’t found anything similar in the UK but I got scarves and hats made for our CSC and they were top notch.

    http://www.fishknits.com/custom_design.html

Just beware of the customs & excise duty if you order. I had to drive the price up slightly. Still managed to sell the items at £12 a scarf £10 a hat. If your CSC takes a small hit on them you can sell them for less or organise a fundraiser and members get theirs free. Nothing better than the Bhoys on the bus having a club scarf.

”I am at present reading The Old Curiosity Shop,There. Is something about the language in these books that is missing in the present day ones,or am I getting old.”

Kindle’s are great got one for my birthday last month, Dickens’ anniversary was on the news last night – I had a younger visitor round – ‘Is he dead?’

‘Yes’ about 150 years ago says I.

So I went to my book case and my Dickens collection I inherited from my parents and has been around since I was 5 y.o.)

I picked up a “Tale of Two Cities”. ‘This is my favourite’ – opened the first page and handed it to him ‘Read this’ – read it blank look on his face.

So I gave him some context and told him about the ending, turned to the back page and said ‘Read the final paragraph.’

Still blank. ‘Yes they wrote a lot differently in those days, I don’t get it.’

He went to one of the top schools in Maidenhead – I’m glad I’m getting old

It doesn’t really matter what HMRC won’t want. The FTT is over and the Judge or Judges have decided. HMRC can no longer influence it one way or the other.

Sorry if its posted before, according to Joe O Rourke from the CSA:

”There have been some information coming my way about a possible infiltration of the Celtic section tonight by people who are not celtic supporters. These people apparently are going to cause as much trouble as they can; with the hope that the bad press reaction will be about Celtic supporters.

Hopefully this is just a rumour. I do not see how Hunfiltraitors would be able to source sufficient numbers of tickets to cause a problem. If they infiltrate in singles ,to act as an agent provocateur, i would suggest that they should be easy to spot – IE they will behave like a Hun – if it looks and smells and acts like a hun it is a hun -simples. Any individual deemed suspect should be 1 -asked to remove him / themselves from the ground 2. If they don’t administer a couple ‘medicinal’ slaps to the miscreant apprehend the said individual and hand him /them over to PC McPlod.

Most of the support will be travelling with CSC’s and so will be well know to fellow human beings. Not wishing induce a state of paranoia but keep an eye out if anyone shows any Hunnish traits, and we know what they are, challenge the individual ask for Tim credentials – Basically “Halt who goes there Tim or foe – indentify yourself or I will swiftly introduce my boot to your love spuds” – purely defensive that is. :-)

  26. Talking of Willie Collum and his lack of affinity with the concept of “without fear or favour”,

I took the opportunity of recording the Hearts v Saints cup tie the other day.

As a former Perth resident I wanted to relish their comeback against our next opponents and check for myself how well Cillian Sheridan had managed to prick their balloon. Satisfactory on both counts and CS took his goal in Hooper fashion by springing their offside trap.

What pleased me even more was lip-reading Steve Lomas’ instruction to Callum Murray to “Just do your job!” after yet another blatant foul by Ian Black on a Saints player. And he managed to avoid being banished to the stand too!

How Black avoided retribution following his tramp on Sandaza’s torso beggars belief…..almost…

  28. The FTT have found against Rangers, no question.

The Judges have made their decision, and are writing up their reasons behind the verdict, to be published on the website.

If they had found in favour of Rangers, the verdict would have been announced within days of the tribunal finishing, with the rider “We will publish the reasons for our decision in due course”. The reasoning for that is to allow the defendants to quickly move on with their business without the case hanging over them unneccessarily.

That the Judges are still documenting the reasons for their verdict after all this time can mean only one thing. Rangers are snookered. The Judges will also have to decide on the penalties to be applied, ie the full 14m claimed by HMRC, or a reduced penalty.

That is my understanding, and explains why Craig Whyte told Tom English that the next few weeks would be critical for the club. He knows they have lost it and it is only a question of how much.

  29. Rabiu Ibrahim excluded from squad due to an ongoing ‘red tape’ issue.
