Forget histrionics and win 15-in-a-row

443

The off-field histrionics that a visit to Tynecastle invariably brings is of little interest today.  For now, don’t really care about the history of this fixture or the disposition of the natives.  Such matters pale into insignificance beside the three points on offer to the team who have won 14 consecutive games in domestic football, a run that extends back to October.

Neil Lennon and his players will let others worry about life’s dramas, the likely influence of Hearts fifth winding-up order, served this week, the “political situation” that has a bearing on Hearts team selection, or even the 2-0 defeat at the same venue four months ago.  They will instead focus on how to deliver a disciplined performance against a team who have recorded unlikely highs and lows this season.

10-man Hearts put five goals past St Mirren last month but were lucky to leave Tynecastle with a draw against 10-man St Johnstone at the weekend after Cillian Sheridan ran them ragged.  They are neck-and-neck with St Johnstone in the league, both of whom have slipped six points behind Motherwell in the chase for what may yet become a Champions League spot.

The biggest decision for Neil Lennon may be in defence.  Celtic have lost only two league goals in their last nine outings (they lost 12 in the previous nine), which has been crucial in their push to the top of the league.  This has seen opportunities for now-fit Kelvin Wilson limited.  Kelvin played a full 90 minutes in the Scottish Cup against Inverness on Saturday and will give the manager a decision to make.

Happy Birthday to Martin42, 70 years of refusing to take life too seriously.  A win tonight would give us a better birthday reference point than the cold and miserable night at Celtic Park 12 years ago.

Switching to a 4-4-2 later on, with both Brozek and Stokes featuring from the bench.

*I know Izzy isn’t completely fit, but I think we have to put our best foot forward and give him an hour anyway (Joe can switch back to LB if we go 4-4-2 and Stokes/Pawel comes on for Izzy.)

A Caithness nuclear power plant’s dome, the SS Great Britain in Bristol and Leicester’s Belgrave Hall Museum are in the running for a jelly replica.

The historic ship and the two landmark buildings have made the shortlist for a museums-led arts project.

Sam Bompas and Harry Parr, who are described as “food architects”, will make a replica of the winner in jelly during a weekend of events in May.

The dome of the Dounreay Fast Reactor has previously been made into art.

Artist Kate William created a glass sculpture of the sphere-shaped DFR which glows bright green under certain conditions.

The artwork can be lit by using ultraviolet light to stimulate particles of uranium dioxide inside it.

Thurso museum Caithness Horizons put the DFR forward for the jelly competition, which forms part of this year’s Museums at Night celebrations.

Held annually, Museums at Night involves hundreds of museums, galleries, libraries, archives and heritage sites across the UK opening their doors for special evening events.

People have been invited to vote for which landmark they would like to see recreated in jelly by Bompas and Parr.

The London-based pair’s previous work has included a replica of St Paul’s Cathedral.

A bit late in catching up with your Cronin posting.

Given that he was not born until 1896, he would have had a wee bit of difficulty writing letters of encouragement to Celtic’s founders.

*I didn’t say that although I have no doubt his family would as they were original shareholders.

As I understand it, part of his childhood was spent in Dumbarton at his maternal grandmother’s house in Round Riding Road, Dumbarton. I believe that the house in question is the red sandstone semi villa near Miller Street, the entrance to the old Boghead.

*which would explains his forays to watch the sons along with his non-RC grampa, the Tim team in Dumbarton then would have been the Harp who played at the Meadow.

This has given rise to the idea that Hatter’s Castle was situated at the Junction of Round Riding Road and Netherbog.

*His maternal grampa, Montgomerie, owned the hatters shop in the toon although it is not he that is illustrated in the book but more likely the one in the Green Years that took his grandson round tae St. Pats for Sunday Mass.

I believe that his other grandparents lived in Alexander St. near the Fountain.

*Also known as Craft Street where I was born. Incidentally the area around Bridge Street where his family had a pub is where the Irish settled when they came over tae work in the textile industry.

Doesn’t really matter who is right or wrong,, his books make good reading.

    *Absolutely.

  9. Paul67,

A strong layer in the mold of Kayal or Brown and would give decent delivery from the wing.

NEIL LENNON MUST GO – BUT WITH DIGNITY

    SAMARAS – GTF

Written by me in some recent dark day – written because I knew the Huns were pathetic – but at the time of writting – they were better than us – this infuriated me

Since then I have publicly eaten humble pie (lots of it)

I look forward to watching Celtic tonight confident that we will perform to our ability and win with ease

I think Neil Lennon is a better manager than I gave him credit for

SO WHEN AND WHERE DID IT ALL CHANGE

WHANT DID NEIL SAY OR DO TO GET US PERFORMING AS WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN FROM DAY ONE

Was it a heart to heart sit down chat with the players – was it a war in the dressing room – was it embarassment??

“Hopefully, regardless of how it was arrived at, the Rednapp verdict will give the OBSESSIVES some food for thought.

“Yesterday, just as THEY are today, Rednapp was alleged to have been wrongdoing. Inn the near future, just as Rednapp has been today, THEY may well be fouud not guilty”

Just to put your mind at rest – if, in the one-in-a-49million chance “THEY may well be found not guilty” HMRC will appeal and the painfully slow death of Rangers will continue.

The way in which the Redknapp verdict was arrived at is crucial, because the Huns case is not in a criminal court in front of a partisan jury. Big difference – I hope this clears up your fears…

  13. I am no accounting expert far from it but something I was thinking about:

Audited accounts from Whyte would prove either way whether he has put in own money into the club, whether they up to date with PAYE tax since he took over and has happened to the Ticketus money etc.

The only incentive to produce these at this stage is to obtain a license for Europe and they have until the end of March to produce them. However if Rangers experience an insolvency event they won´t be able to play in Europe anyway. This insolvency event looks high likely to happen before the deadline for license.

So will Whyte ever have to produce audited accounts? Will he ever have to show his hand? If Rangers go into administration or liquidation are their accounts published as part of this process?

    Good afternoon Guys,

A big game tonight, we need a good result.

After watching us against Inverness i would make just 2 changes, Izzy in for Mulgrew and Forrest in for Commons. For me Charlie at left back is not great, is distribution is not the best from that position. I thought Wilson and Rogne were imense and Mathews was solid hence i would keep them in for tonight. Commons still looks of the pace so i would go with Forrest. Just my opinion of course.

Programme Editor Diarmid O’Hara and Producer Jonathan Milne will travel to Kosice, Slovakia for the 2002 Conference where they will be presented with a trophy, a certificate and a cheque in recognition of their tremendous success.

Sounds like he has been around sometime and might know his job – but I can see his point, when I was six my teacher was Miss O’Hara – She had a Scottish accent but I always had my suspicions.

  17. KJamBhoy – Rangers fans will be unlikely ever to see any audited accounts of the goings on during the Whyte time. With all that has been written and mused over we will in all honesty never likely know the truth for a a fact.

What’s changed is the manager is no longer having to chop and change the team on a weekly basis because of injuries – particularly in the defence.

Also, some players who were out of form are back on their game. More importantly, a winning run breeds confidence and instils belief.

The next time the team hits a rocky patch you should consider that their might be reasons for it and try to keep the faith.

There were several people on here (notable for their absence of late) who chucked the towel in before quarter of the season was over.

  21. RogueLeader

Exactly what I was thinking. He will never have to back´up any of his claims.

Funnily enough the only hun I know that is really worried about Whyte and described him as a crook, works in finance. The rest are of the thinking ´the dury is still out´, ´give him the benefit of the doubt´, etc.

Their denial will only make their demise harder to take!

You really must believe us! You really must believe us!

  22. I think it’s great that we all , on here , seem to have a go at what we think the team should be.

Rarely do we ever pick the same team but each offering has a look of strength about it yet in

different styles. Can you imagine the opposition manager trying to second guess Neil. It’s a good

place to start when the opposition dont know how you’re going to setup. But one thing you always

require at Tynecastle is the right attitude from the start.

I for one wouldn’t mind if we got what we got on saturday, same team same attitude from the start.

    And of course same score.

  26. Spoke with a big blue nose friend today. Dapper old bloke, last time I spoke to him in the summer he was scoffing at the ‘fine’ that was the likely outcome of all the shenanigans at Ibrox and we’d all move on. It beggars belief how little so many of their fans know. This is a well educated businessman, his son and him are season ticket holders.

Anyway, today he seemed to be more aware of the severity of the situation. The summation now is that the SFA and the SPL will need to do something about it all, clear up the uncertainty and make sure Scottish football doesn’t suffer. Celtic need Rangers and so does Scottish football. Let’s get the embarrassment of administration over and done with, the points deduction and everything starts afresh for next season. Honestly, this is how he sees it. It would seem this is not an uncommon viewpoint now and is how many of the huns who are emerging from complete denial see it playing out.

As I said, it beggars belief. But I suppose if you really believe you are the chosen people then what can go wrong?

A reasonable assessment – but not IMO – the reason for such a transformation

Something happened ” A critical moment” “A crossraods” but something galvanised Lennon and the players

I think Lennon is a much better manager for the experience and I dont think we will hit a rock patch
