Gang of 10 Arab Spring rebuked by Duff & Phelps

1001

Comments from Duff and Phelps yesterday that they were not in favour of changing the SPL voting system were intriguing.  Kilmarnock chairman, Michael Johnston, was pretty blatant about his agenda when speaking to the BBC on Saturday, suggesting the actions of the Gang of 10 was a “pro-democracy movement” similar to the Arab Spring, saying:

“It might make it easier for the [Rangers] administrators to get whatever they are going to try to achieve whether it is a CVA or new company to be informed and re-joining the SPL and SFA.

“The support of the 10 clubs might be needed at some point.”

Too right the support of the other 10 clubs might be needed at some point if a new company is to join (not re-join, for goodness sake!) the SPL and SFA.

Back in October last year we predicted Rangers would be liquidated, a Newco would be formed and would be voted straight into the SPL, with only Celtic arguing the need to maintain sporting integrity.  Everything we have heard since has reinforced this view.

The debate among the Gang of 10 has matured so far they see no issue in openly offering to support a Newco’s entry into the league in return for money (which we predicted earlier this month), mostly generated from Celtic fans, as it happens.

We await Johnston responding by sticking to his high-minded principles and telling any Newco they will not enjoy Kilmarnock’s support.

Duff and Phelps still have an enormous amount to achieve before they will even be in a position to apply for entry to the SPL on behalf of a Newco but if they do, they will surely offer the Gang of 10 a take-it-or-leave-it proposition. The Gang of 10 will take it. This debate is not about democracy, it’s about directors at clubs like Kilmarnock, who I believe now have debts of over £10m, finding a way to deal with their years of unchecked overspend.

The debate around St Mirren director, Ken McGeoch, would surely outrage sensibilities in any country in the world so I’m pleased his fellow directors have called for his resignation.  In November last year McGeoch invited Rangers company secretary Gary Withey to a meeting at the St Mirren boardroom where he revealed player contract details.

St Mirren are up for sale and could be purchased for what previously amounted loose change at Ibrox; McGeoch met Withey to discuss him purchasing the club from his fellow directors and shareholders.

For a Rangers director, influence like that should be impossible to acquire.

  4. Celtic fans paid over 300 grand to Rankers for tickets recently, do they get certificates?

Celtic FC paid the Poppy appeal 10 grand did we ever get the amount that Rankers paid?

  5. Morning All from Germany where the heatwave is apparently over. The vindictive hate campaign against NL is still boiling away SFA, I see. And gutter journalists at the Hootsmon only too happy to publicise it and rouse the loyal rabble. These are the death-throes of a corrupt, Apartheid regime. I can’t wait for its downfall.

  6. With all this lets get lennon going on again within scottish football ,and the mibs once again showing there teeth against him . it would suggest to me that we dont have a god dam thing on them , otherwise they would be keeping their heads down . Wheres the dossier WE SHOULD HAVE after all thats gone on with dougiegate dallasgate et all . I also feel our custodians should periodically let there voice be heard . Going back through all the posts over the past few months its been the punters, phil, rtc , paul, and a few other clever bhoys on this and other forums who have been highlighting the wrongdoing,s going on , A wee bit encouragement from our club would be a thumbs up to the bhoys fighting the fight . And lenny engaging a top notch QC would also benefit him, since the loss of paul mcbride the cowards have come back out the sewer, time to send them back .

  8. ROBBIE Coltrane has revealed how he received death threats for playing a spoof Orangeman.

The actor, 62, was one of the stars of BBC Scotland’s 1984 comedy sketch show Laugh??? I Nearly Paid My Licence Fee.

One of his most outrageous characters was Mason Boyne.

In one sketch, Boyne – who has a daughter called Orangina and munches Orange Creams – counted the three most important issues facing mankind as “nuclear disarmament, a starving third world and the growing number of Catholics in Edinburgh”.

He slept under a picture of the Reverend Ian Paisley and in one sketch, kissed a portrait of the Northern Irish politician.

But speaking on BBC Scotland’s 60 Years of Television in Scotland, Coltrane reveals the character outraged some.

He said: “Phil Differ and I had the idea of writing an absurdly masonic guy, who painted all the green leaves in his garden orange and all that stuff.

“My favourite one was the episode when Orangina sent him a Christmas card and he’d got a box of Orange Creams from his wife, while she was ironing his sash.

“Then he kissed you-know-who on the way out. I got a lot of stick for that. I had death threats.

“We did the Pope the next week. As far as I was concerned, we were just being naughty, but the reaction was extraordinary. You wonder whether you would get away with it today.”

Coltrane also portrayed a Cockney, red-wine drinking Pope impersonating Paisley’s booming voice.

Writer Differ said: “I think it’s important to poke fun at extremism in all its forms. And Mason Boyne was the ultimate Orangeman.

“I thought it was important that we just kind of had a wee go at them. But, equally important, I think you’ve got to balance that.”

●Watching Ourselves – 60 Years of Television in Scotland (Having a Laugh) is on BBC1Scotland next Wednesday, April 4, at 7.30pm.

  14. The actions of the RFFF are genuinely flabbergasting. Where do these guys get off deigning to pay a late debt to one club but not to another, presenting it as an honourable and praiseworthy act, and then demanding the SFA go easy on them for millions in unpaid taxes and a litany of compliance offences?

It takes some amount of chutzpah to claim the moral high ground in this situation, and whilst the stupidity of their fans is well-documented, what on earth are RFC office holders like Sandy Jardine and McCoist doing endorsing this astonishing behaviour?

I see the SFA meeting today with der hun as a dead rubber. How can the SFA possibly condemn anyone with any sort of complacency or non due diligence when they themselves did not do the ‘fit and proper ‘ test on Whyte?

The ‘fit and proper test’ has first all to be carried out by the Rangers directors and all documentation then forwarded to the SFA. That is in Reagan’s own words.

As Reagan has already stated, it is Rangers who are up on 5 of the 7 charges, not Craig Whyte

I was saying…this Hamilton day seems expensive at £122. I was wondering if we should just do as we did at Muss the 1st time we met, remember Stars, Chris etc? Just get a table downstairs and buy our drink? Add hotel for anyone staying makes it prohibitive to some. More CQN’ers may be happier just to turn up on the day for £17 entry fee and feed themselves on junk food? I will mail PF at his work and get his thoughts. What you say?
