Get ready for Brendan’s reign

650

There was a spring in the step this morning as we look forward to Celtic taking to the field for the first time under Brendan Rodgers against Slovenians, NK Celje.

While the usual caveats apply – we’re unfit and will look it, the manager doesn’t really know the players yet – it will be interesting to see the formation, and how it contrasts to Ronny’s reign. I would also look out for wee clues as to how we will play, like how the keeper distributes the ball, and where the full backs play.

16 years ago Martin O’Neill took his team to the Netherlands and was well beaten, but he returned to Amsterdam a few weeks later, where he ripped up the form book, so don’t get too stressed by what might happen later.

Once in a lifetime opportunity……

There are rare experiences and then there are extremely rare experiences, but the chance to appear in the Celtic team photo is incredibly rare.

Thanks to Malorbhoy, we have a £5-a-ticket raffle to win the chance to appear in your very own team photo, alongside the Celtic players and management at the preseason photocall for 2016-17.

You will then meet treble winning captain, Tom Boyd, who will give you a personal tour of Celtic Park.

Celtic will provide you with a strip, which you will retain, and you will receive your team photograph, framed and signed by the team, on a specially prepared mount.

This is an incredible experience for any Celtic fan.

Your donations go to Celtic FC Foundation, to support their work in Health, Equality, Learning and Poverty. The Foundation deliver often life-changing support and opportunities to children and adults in Scotland, Ireland, the rest of the UK and in many needy areas of the globe.

Buy your ticket at MyDonate here. You can enter as many times as you like, but only donations of £5 or higher will be entered into the raffle.

Many thanks and good luck!

Full time 2-2. Good showing in second half with a lot of young home produced players. Some I didn’t even recognise.

  6. Decent work out.

    Rogic and Roberts showed class.

Pressing as a unit was excellent.

Best thing was Brendan has obviously insisted that if you lose the ball, you lead the charge to retrieve it, a la Barca, Bayern and Athletico Madrid.

  7. Well that was a good workout , and pleasing to see that we have some good young bhoys coming through . Still some polishing to do regards our passing , but over all a fairly good performance .

  11. Only caught the second half, from what I saw the crab iike football has been binned, here’s hoping i enjoyed watching that.

  12. You can tell very little from to nights game it was just a training exercise. Brendan can tell as much from watching the everyday training. Glad we got the couple of goals to make it a draw.

  13. Decent shift with everyone getting a half, the second half side looked sharper almost to man.

Liam Henderson did well, one or two usual suspects looked the same. Would sell Johannsen and off load a few yet, especially Ciftci

Scott Allan and Ryan Christie look short of Celtic to me, and it was interesting Stuart Armstrong played exactly where he did for Ronny Deila.

O’Connell looked fine, but the second half was all about Celtic attacking , and gaining match fitness.

  14. Decent work out but youngsters in second showed more.

    Gordon -Yes

    Tierney-Yes

    Erik-yes

    Agger -to early to tell

Fisher-ok but will be between him and Janko who stays.

    Johansen-may go

    Botton-May go

    Forrest-on this evidence will go

    Christie-not great but will improve

    Allan-was poor will probably go

    Griff -stay

    Fasan-nothing to do

Ralston- looks goaded may have lessened Janko and Fishers chance.

    O’Connell- very good prospect

    McCart-very good also

Janko- ok but in fairness kept having to turn onto right foot as playing wrong side

    Roberts-expect a lot this seasonn

    McGregor-goood and fits Brendans style

    Henderson-as McGregor

Armstrong-excellent and will be huge player this season

Rogic-great skill but will have to up the tempo of his game to be a regular

Ciftci-did more today than all of last season. 2nd chance?

We were rusty at times but the pressing in the second half was very good.

These games are so Brendan learns about his squad and today some did thenmselves no favours.

voguepunter – Hun in work said him and a few of his mates were putting a few bob e/w on it, said it would help towards their Euro games. He was serious as well, can’t teach stupid I suppose…

  16. I enjoyed that. Coming back from 2-0 down in the second half is good. Important to note, two assists from Armstrong and two reall y good goals from Ciftci and Rogic. I thought Coftci looked interested and played well. Armstrong also had two decent shots on goal in the second half. I thought we were in control during the last 20 minutes. Well done Brendan. Well done Celtic.

Can I just take a minute to thank everyone who gave me potential sausages for the game. I really appreciated you taking the time to help me. TET, your sausage was successful for which I’m eternally grateful. Thank you.

Celtic looked as if they were trying hard to win tonight in sharp contrast to our awful pre season performances in Germany two seasons ago. Jock Stein wouldn’t have tolerated 6-2 defeats that we’re going on 12-2 when there were Celtic supporters who had made the effort to travel abroad to follow the team. I don’t subscribe to the, “it’s only a pre-season warm-up” philosophy.

The Celtic jersey does not shrink to accommodate inferior players. Well done Celtic for putting in the effort tonight.

    I’m a happy Tim.

    Hail! Hail!
