CONTRACT rebel Giorgos Giakoumakis WILL demand a move from Celtic, according to reports in Greece.
The 28-year-old international striker is said to want to quit the champions for a new challenge.
And journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos, who was accurate in his details of Giakoumakis’ £2.5million switch from Eredivisie outfit VVV-Venlo to the Hoops in August last year, even states the player and his young family don’t like the Scottish weather!
TRANSFER…how the Greek media broke the story Giorgos Giakoumakis had switched agents and would be looking for a move from Celtic.
Giakoumakis, who claimed 17 goals in his debut campaign at Parkhead, created a stir when news leaked he had knocked back an enhanced deal with Ange Postecoglou’s side, as CQN reported at the start of the month.
The powerhouse hitman, who spent a year in the Netherlands following a transfer from AEK Athens 12 months before the Hoops made their move, has terms with the Parkhead club until June 2026.
Chorianopoulos, writing in local media outlet Sportime, claimed: “Giorgos Giakoumakis, even changing agent, conveys the message to Celtic that he is looking for a transfer in the summer.”
The journalist revealed the player needed a “change of championship” because victories were now “routine”.
Bizarrely, the climate was also blamed for Giakoumakis’ apparent sudden unrest.
AIMING HIGH…South Korea striker Cho Gue-sung in high-flying action during the World Cup Finals.
Postecoglou has already stated at the club AGM that there would be some coming and going in the January transfer window.
Josip Juranovic, whose reputation has been enhanced following some impressive performances in the World Cup Finals including an immaculate performance against Brazil’s Vinicius Junior in Croatia’s penalty-kick triumph last night, will be on the move next month.
The Hoops have already spent £3.5million to bring in Canada international Alistair Johnston to provide competition at right-back to Anthony Ralston.
Central defender Yuki Kobayashi has also arrived on a five-year contract from Vissel Kobe to strengthen the rearguard.
South Korea’s towering hitman Cho Gue-sung has been linked with the Hoops as it increasingly looks as though Giakoumakis is on his way – if, of course, the Greek journalist has got the correct information.
