Do to Scotland what you did to Celtic

282

I don’t want to see a single Scotland player forced to miss the Croatia game as a result of Billy Gilmour’s positive test, announced today.  I did not want to see 13 Celtic players forced to miss two games, two weeks training sessions and isolate at home, following Christopher Jullien’s positive test in January.  I did not want to see Ryan Christie miss Celtic games after Stuart Armstrong’s positive result in October, but the latter two happened.

The disruption caused to Celtic’s season was immeasurable and, when 13 players as well as coaching staff were forced to isolate, the result of predatory Track and Trace action.  Billy Gilmour did not travel to Wembley alone, he did not have his own dressing room at the stadium, he did not eat alone, he did not socialise alone.  The government officials who hammered Celtic will look the other way today.

Ms Sturgeon, if  you are that concerned with public health, do to Scotland what you did to Celtic.  We all know there is zero chance of that happening.

    If

    1) Gilmour is the only absentee tomorrow and

    2) NHS Teesside have comparable rules to NHS Scotland

then you will be correct, different standards will be seen to apply.

Is it not the case though that Croatia and the Czech Republic squads initially intended setting up camp in Scotland and changed their minds because NHS Scotland rules were stricter?

That may be the SFA get-out.

My central point, again, is that if different rules are seen to be applied in similar circumstances, then as opposed to having pet bloggers setting the hounds on the Scottish Government, Celtic PLC would better further their own interests better by taking the matter up themselves with the authorities.

I say PLC as opposed to FC because customers are going to withdraw their custom. Which is the only thing they listen to.

Go on post it! I promise I’ll come and visit you in the jail! por cierto

  3. I hope Celtic contact the Scottish Government and ask for the rules that apply to Scotland International team in order that they may apply the same processes.

I fear that it is too late for this and we will start the new season with 2 metre social distancing applied to all, 7 coaches for away games and 500 fans at games.

I suspect that the rules are being applied by people like Jason Leitch and not Sturgeon and the MSP’s.

    SQUIRE DANAHER,

Surely the question is: what are the SNP Government going to do about it? They seem to be quite happy at punishing Celtic, while ignoring breaches by just about everyone else. Have they decided that the Celtic support’s support can be taken for granted or is too negligible to be worried about?

    ———

To accept for a moment the premise articulated several times on this thread that the Scottish Government are treating Celtic differently.

How then does it follow that the question which arises is therefore ‘what are the SG “going to do about it”’?

The SFA get out will no doubt be that COVID rules under NHS Teesside are less stringent than under NHS Scotland.

The SG – as much as some on here evidently would like to – cannot be blamed for NHS Teesside policy.

Fergus McCann or Robert Kelly wouldn’t issue statements noting “surprise and disappointment”.

Celtic need to get off their knees.

it will join more political nipping going on between the UK govt and UEFA which has uefa threatening to move the final to Hungary° if their delegates dont get in/out test free for final.

The truth is we do not know the rules.

we are not aware of the testing regimes that take place,by each player,by club are not known to us.it should be.we fund this game.

The Scottish government imposed the quarantine when Celtic returned to Scotland. How this will play out as the next game is at Hampden then god knows. Celtic were totally treated differently from everyone one else but as per usual the board use Paul as a conduit instead of growing a pair and speaking up. Last time I heard they were silently seething whatever that means.

We all know what’s nasty & who’s nasty.

Celtic’s season was not a good one, however strong, swift and spiteful intervention on two occasions, firstly at the start of the season (one player offending) to make sure we were always chasing the Ibrox mob, and mid-season (one player infected) in January when the league was still winnable.

The league was effectively lost in January against Livingston (2) & Hibs, when we were forced to play a ‘shadow squad’

Contrast all this with the ‘blind eye’ turned on at least three occasions to Ibrox contraventions. Closed door match at Murray Park (a whole squad), and a couple of ‘party nights’ involving c12 players. Not only did the SNPcult soft-peddle on these, but somehow they managed to squeeze in a congratulatory message praising the Ibrox handling into the bargain.

Sturgeon and the SNPcult are not interested in “public health”, they showed that at the beginning of the pandemic by hushing-up the Edinburgh hotel outbreak and sending 2000 of the elderly to their deaths by emptying hospital wards into petri-dish care homes.

If they are capable of these disgraceful actions, what chance have Celtic in getting a ‘fair shake’?

Scotland The Brand flag-waving was always going to take precedence over public health – with Nationalists the CAUSE always wins over people.

Gilmour is now meant to be isolating so shouldn’t be coming into Scotland for the purposes of the game.

I am guessing the issue is that he was in Teesside at the time of testing positive, so is liable to their rules on basis he is now meant to be isolating there, and also therefore that their rules apply regarding any issues arising from his contact with others?

  14. Reading down the comments has anyone come to the conclusion I reached a long time ago that the meaning we give to any event aligns absolutely with the meaning we want to give it?

If the SG step in because the game is played in Scotland and over half the team and managers have to self isolate, does that mean that Nichola Sturgeon will be on the touchline to replace Steve Clarke?

When the “rules” are inconsistently applied (to the detriment of a single team in particular) then that’s a problem and I hope Paul would call that out regardless of the ruling party at any given time.

Not a hope in Hades that 13 internationals will be forced to isolate; wouldn’t be good for public morale with qualifying on such a knife edge. How is that inconsistency justified and tolerated by such a proud, fair people?

Yet Dom could, par exemplo, assertively ask the Gov for clarification of their decision-making, just for the record. Or, he might opt to let us do our talking on the pitch (coughs…) when the season starts.

BTW: I know the tabloid rumour mill is on full pish-pump at the mo’, but if any truth to news that Ross Aloisi is mentioned in dispatches as a 2IC to Ange leaves this AussieCelt pretty cold. No significant accolades/repute as a standout coach down-under.

Paul is merely calling out the complete inconsistency in the application of the “rules”.

    ————————

No he’s not and you know fine well he’s not.

    ——————————-

The inference would appear to be that you want Paul’s statement to be seen as an anti-SNP statement with political motivations and nothing to do with the fact that he calls out the SNP on a Celtic blog only when their actions, decisions, and interpretations have affected Celtic.

If he was writing screeds about the mishandling of the Nursing Home issues, or about issuing a travel ban for Manchester when Dundee has a higher infection rate, or about the SNP Education policy of throwing everything under a bus, you would have a point.

But Paul has limited himself to critical SNP comment on the issues of not allowing crowd attendance at domestic league matches (while 3 weeks later allowing over 10k to attend Hampden and 6k fan zones), or for approving protocols for the Dubai trip and then changing them afterwards in order to deprive us of more than a full team of players for a few matches (whilst applauding Sevco for their actions when players attended parties), or mentioning the very public criticism that we and Aberdeen faced for the Bolingoli incident and the Aberdeen pub gathering (whilst Sevco again got commended), or seeing the different standards operated against Christie and Tierney (whose club and FA ignored the SG instruction) when Armstrong was diagnosed, and contrasting that with Fleck and Gilmour both getting a Covid diagnosis and no other player or member of the support team was deemed a close contact.

All of those are examples where our club was treated differently and not one is a criticism of the SNP government on a non-football event.

So, what does it take for you and Timmy and James F and others who , after all, are not SNP supporters- merely Independence Supporters- to get to the point of realising we are being treated differently?

You criticise Paul for not keeping quiet on this but you say you will take it seriously if our craven Board raises its voice (despite Peter Lawwell and Neil Lennon already making statements to that effect).

I have difficulty in believing you are all not supporters (merely voters) for/of that party. You spring to their defence every time Paul criticises their football interference.

As far as I can see it the Independence Movement, which you support, has done nothing to harm Celtic FC, yet the SNP Government , whom you profess not to support, has harmed us and treated us differently on several occasions.

But you still choose to frame this as a political vendetta by a Labour Supporter??? How about advancing some evidence or reasoning in support of that view instead of trying to pin labels on Paul.

This latest issue (Gilmour) is not strictly an English Health Board affair. The party are due to travel to Hampden for Tuesday’s match- it comes under Scottish Government jurisdiction and they are guilty or negligent if they continue to say nothing.

  28. Sick fed up of this shit. Balancing huns behaviour in George Sq with the Celtic team travelling to Dubai ffs.

“I suspect that the rules are being applied by people like Jason Leitch and not Sturgeon and the MSP’s.”

    ————————————-

Suspect all you like but there is absolutely no way that Jason Leitch has advocated and supported a nil attendance policy up tp the end of May only to provide scientific grounds to allow match attendances of 12 k and fanzones of 6k, three weeks later. He is just not that daft, even for a dentist.

What has actually and truly happened is that UEFA has told our Government that, if they want the matches to go ahead within their country, then they must allow a signifiant match day attendance, not the platry 500 or a 1000 that a trial event would scientifically justify, and that it must approve Fan Zones with alcohol, and free travel by all opposition squads playing at Hampden.

Nicola agreed to all these diktats, not on scientific evidence or persuaded by Jason Leitch, but because she did not want to be seen to be harming Scotland’s chances of progresssing by denying them home and crowd support advantages. She surrendered her priciples to UEFA diktat. Boris did too. He may have been more willing to do so but both did do so and by doing so, Nicola was guilty of treating the international team more favourably than Celtic (or Aberdeen) or even Sevco.

I guess she is betting on the Celtic fans’ desire to continue voting SNP is more secure than even that of the Tartan Army and there is no humiliation and unfavourable treatment which will see them turn, as they would prefer to blame their own custodians for the Bolingoli, Dubai, Christie, no match day attendance allowances, than the government.

They would rather blane the victims than the perpetrators.
