Glib, shameless, fit and proper

1532

Before digesting news reports that Dave King is set to return to Scottish football as a director of Newco Rangers, it’s probably worth a caveat.  Today’s ‘news’ has the same heritage as pretty much every false steer emanating from Ibrox over the past decade.  Honest Dave King may well hope to take over at Ibrox but I could just as easily believe he has no intentions of getting involved.

Two months ago King accepted liability for 41 counts of contravening the South African Income Tax Act, while agreeing to pay the resultant bill, the equivalent of £46m.  By act of sheer comic genius he is being heralded as the most appropriate person to take control of Newco Rangers, the club brought about by the disastrous income tax affairs of Oldco Rangers, while King was on the board.

Lord Nimmo Smith prevaricated on some issues in his report into Oldco but he was unequivocal in his condemnation of the directors, including King. South African judge, Brian Southwood, described King as a “glib and shameless liar” in 2011.

In every practical sense this man is a perfect fit for the Rangers group of clubs.  Every scrap of information available on how he conducts his affairs screams ‘Rangers tradition’.

As for Fit and Proper?  Don’t make me quote a second judge!

In the event the SFA have to make a Fit and Proper decision on King they will have to consider Nimmo Smith’s view.  It is not even remotely credible that the SFA are competent to rule on King while their president was subject to the same criticism from Nimmo Smith (although Judge Southwood provides a convenient out).

The narrative being peddled today is a final throw of the dice by some, nothing more.  ‘A guy will hunn’ers of millions is coming in to make everything OK’.  Aye, sure thing.

  1. I understand that there were 17 Celtic ducks sold via The Rangers website!

I know who bought the first one :

On Wednesday I asked for help to complete Her Majesty’s lines in her message to be read at Celtic Park when the Commonwealth Games open.

I now know the closing lines.

  2. The Good Ship Celtica with Captain Oscar Knox on

    Evening all,

Duckgate’s brilliant. Up there with, but not quite surpassing, Mr.Custard (undoubtedly my favouritest thing in the whole demented drama in the death of rangers).

I see the old Celtic complicit in the protection of whatever team is playing out of Badger Park has raised its ugly head on the mere suggestion that Dodgy Dave II (kudos to whoever coined that one) will become chairman at Sevco.

I find myself questioning the logic of this possibility. Whatever your view of the guys in the boardroom I think we can all agree they are not stupid? If you accept that premise then why would they want to go back to a broken model. A model that resulted in a ruinous arms race between the OF (sorry). Indeed it led to the death of one of the participants. It also did horrible damage to the whole Scottish game.

I don’t believe the people in charge of our club want to go back to that. I have faith in that but it is not blind faith. I’m not automatically a happyclapper/board lover/sheep (delete as appropriate :-)) because of this faith. It is based on logic.

And one final thing. Do you think if we really wanted to save sevco they would be in the mess they are in?

Not a name I recognise, but there you go.

    Maybe you’re new on here.

Anyway, while you’re here perhaps you could explain why there are four SNP councilors holding a Labour for Independence banner?

Seriously, what’s that all about? It’s almost like they were kidding on that they were members of the Labour Party or something.

No, my mind is made up.

Until the ruling body of Scottish football grow some… My seat will remain empty at Celtic park…think I’ll have a long wait.

My son can make his own choice.

Wee question kojo… If someone stole from you, would you be so forgiven?

Show some compassion! It can’t be easy for some on here having to stand up and salute every five minutes.

  8. If the SFA let another dodgy Dave, this time dodgy Dave King into Scottish football, well after the revelations about lower division players selling games at the end of the season for holiday money then Scottish football is absolutely wide open for every gangster in the world to move in and take over. Thank you SFA for killing the game of football in our country, it took you decades but you finally made it.

    Congratulations.

    want to watch Celtic anymore.

  11. Bit of stramash between Robbie Keane and Jögi Löw. Keane apparently angry that Löw didn’t go straight to shake hands of Ireland manager. Löw says he wanted to congratulate his players first.

  12. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

Ah well. Ireland gave it their best shot.

Perhaps, understandably over cautious in the first half, but gave a better account of themselves in the second.

After an unfortunate start, when he miss controlled the ball, setting up Lahm, who played in Khidera for his deflected goal, Anthony played himself into the game, especially when he played wide.

His link up and control improved and he had about four shots on target, which against a team of Germany’s quality, was good going.

I never listened to the post match comments, but pre match, they acknowledged his talent and hoped that he would show his true form, recognising his leaner, fitter look.

I think that it generally understood that Stokes has not given his profession the respect and dedication required.

On tonight’s show, he hasn’t done his prospects any harm.

Surprised that King introduced no subs to the play.

  13. Sweden keeper worth a look if FF goes? Has best shut-out stats in these qualifications, apparently.

A panda walks into a bar and gobbles some beer nuts. Then he pulls out a gun, fires it in the air, and heads for the door. “Hey!” shouts the bartender, but the panda yells back, “I’m a panda. Google me!” Sure enough, panda: “A tree-climbing mammal with distinct black-and-white coloring. Eats shoots and leaves.”

Couldn’t see the match, so glad to hear that. Hopefully that will help Anthony in the build-up to the Ajax games. We need to get him, Sammy and Joe signed up while we can.

  16. I have written to my House of Commons M.P. Iain Mckenzie (Labour )Inverclyde & Greenock

Will anyone else write to their House of Commons M.P. regarding this matter.
