Graft and dedication behind Forster meteoric rise

991

Every Celtic fan will be delighted Fraser Forster was included in the England World Cup squad.  Fraser joined Celtic on loan four years ago, becoming a permanent member of staff in 2012.  His transformation over that period has been remarkable, which is no fluke.

He is the most dedicated footballer at the club.  First in each morning, around 2.5 hours before official start time, he’s also last out of Lennoxtown almost every day.  He is possibly the most complete 365-day-a-year athlete we’ve ever had.  This is a player who has set high personal achievement goals and has allowed no distractions to get in his way.

Enormous credit also has to go to the man who has guided him through his meteoric rise in recent seasons, goalkeeper coach Stevie Woods.  Without the focus, technical development and remedial work Stevie has added to Fraser’s development we would not have nearly as effective a goalkeeper between the sticks.

It is never good to see anyone lose their job but surely the decision for Hearts to sack Gary Locke was one of the easiest to come out of Anne Budge’s 120 minute review (which was more productive than one 120 day review).  Hearts early and late season form, where they comfortably recorded victories against most of their peer group, told a tale of what happened for six months of the season, when the team failed to show up.

Locke had the resources to keep his team in the league this season but found every excuse available to ensure they finished bottom.

I’m less sure Danny Lennon deserved to be hooked.  The gap between St Mirren’s 8th placed finish with 39 points and Hibs on 35 points is narrow, but when he needed to dig deep, Lennon was not found wanting.  St Mirren might not be so fortunate with their next guy.

  7. We got send this at the end of last week but didn’t post for obvious reasons. From the Aussie press. LIke the bit at the end re them being liquidated and formed a new club….

ADELAIDE Oval has been presented with an opportunity to host Celtic and Rangers — the oldest rivalry in world soccer.

The Old Firm clash has been proposed for July 2015.

The friendly is bound to have unprecedented world-wide coverage given the two Glasgow-based sides haven’t met in a fixture since April 2012.

Former Rangers defender Stuart Munro who was a former Perth Glory assistant coach, boss of South Melbourne and Parramatta Power said the proposed clash would be massive for Australia. Munro says he featured in perhaps 20 Old Firm clashes.

“It’s a massive fixture,’’ Munro said

“The derby is so important in Scottish football that it determines the working week for a lot of people in Scotland, either they’d be bragging about their club winning or hiding in the toilets because their side lost.”

The proposed Old Firm clash is sure to attract global attention for the $535 million redeveloped Adelaide Oval.

Andrew Daniels chief executive officer of Adelaide Oval’s SMA stated the venue is perfect for soccer but would comment with regards to the proposed fixture.

“While we won’t comment on specific events before they’re confirmed, I can reaffirm that the Adelaide Oval is committed to exploring any and all opportunities to host major events whenever we can,’’ Daniels said.

But SA has a huge fight on its hands in a bid to win the titanic match.

It’s understood the Celtic and Rangers match — the first time the match is proposed to be played outside of Scotland — has also attracted key interest from the state government of Queensland.

In 2012 Rangers was liquidated. A new club was formed and Rangers had to apply to the Scottish league system where the club started again in the lower tiers of Scottish football.

But Rangers is making its way back towards the top flight Scottish Premiership.

While Celtic this year claimed its 45th title Rangers won the League One title.

Rangers will be playing in the Championship next season — a division below Celtic.

How true that statement is. :-)) the mrswefra can knit a bed cover wi her sticks. :-)) On a serious note, I am surprised no-one picked up on my post about the HS2. This is costing, circa, £60bn of which, I can assume, will be funded by NS Oil revenue. This service will not, and never reach Scotland and yet our resources are being provided to fund this. I cannot get my head round why any Scottish person would agree to this. Foodbanks for Scotland, the finest High Speed Train Service to accommodate our precious London. No brainer for me. #Yes

  17. Bored in work….

So who out of Henderson, Twardzik, McGregor, Watt, Herron or Fisher will establish themselves in the first team next season? All of them have looked pretty good when they have gotten their chance (with Celtic or on loan) this season. I doubt all of them will make it but some of them have a really good chance.

Do any of Irvine, McGeough, Atajic, Chalmers, George, Miller, Kidd, Fraser etc. have a future at Celtic? They all seem to be a little behind the guys listed above.

And what about the next age group down…..McMullan, McManus, O’ Connell?

Or the age group below them Thompson, C. Miller, Regan Hendry, Mark Hill, Boyd, McIlduff, Breslin, Nesbitt (the guys that just beat Germany in the U-17s) etc.?

I’m not sure if I ever remember Celtic having as many good young players. Obviously the Quality Street Gang were a notable exception……but I’m only 30 so far too young to remember them.

It genuinely looks like the investment in the academy over the last 4 or 5 years is about to bear some fruit!!

The transition from the youths is very difficult and a number of factors are against the boys.

There is no reserve league to enable them to continue to improve their game

The demand for instant success at CP means they cannot be risked for a long string of games

Going out on loan means they will be coached in a different style of football

They will also be out of sight of the manager

I believe we should be able to field a reserve team in the lower division to give them games in company with experiences professionals especially players returning from injury.
