Graft and dedication behind Forster meteoric rise

991

Every Celtic fan will be delighted Fraser Forster was included in the England World Cup squad.  Fraser joined Celtic on loan four years ago, becoming a permanent member of staff in 2012.  His transformation over that period has been remarkable, which is no fluke.

He is the most dedicated footballer at the club.  First in each morning, around 2.5 hours before official start time, he’s also last out of Lennoxtown almost every day.  He is possibly the most complete 365-day-a-year athlete we’ve ever had.  This is a player who has set high personal achievement goals and has allowed no distractions to get in his way.

Enormous credit also has to go to the man who has guided him through his meteoric rise in recent seasons, goalkeeper coach Stevie Woods.  Without the focus, technical development and remedial work Stevie has added to Fraser’s development we would not have nearly as effective a goalkeeper between the sticks.

It is never good to see anyone lose their job but surely the decision for Hearts to sack Gary Locke was one of the easiest to come out of Anne Budge’s 120 minute review (which was more productive than one 120 day review).  Hearts early and late season form, where they comfortably recorded victories against most of their peer group, told a tale of what happened for six months of the season, when the team failed to show up.

Locke had the resources to keep his team in the league this season but found every excuse available to ensure they finished bottom.

I’m less sure Danny Lennon deserved to be hooked.  The gap between St Mirren’s 8th placed finish with 39 points and Hibs on 35 points is narrow, but when he needed to dig deep, Lennon was not found wanting.  St Mirren might not be so fortunate with their next guy.

ACGR… Many thanks pal… You’re a good guy and reaffirmation of the old saying… ‘you can judge a man by the friends he keeps’ and naw ah don’t mean me… For sure, vote as you see fit, for the perceived benefit of you and yours, and no, of course you do not need my blessing… Just that it rips my knitting to have to put up with the evangelical nutters re on here at times… Take care and God Bless… TBM

Replying to TBM got me thinking about family and my own in particular. I wouldn’t have this one was it not for the beautiful Mrs ACGR. Our first proper date was henry afrikas on York street and this mob were playing. While playing this song the singer chucked out his harmonica into the dancing crowd and it hit me square between the eye’s. Ouch, a right sore one, embarrassing and bloody painful. Trying to hide the pain and tears I quickly bent down to try to retrieve the flying instrument as a trophy for my unimpressed partner only to have my hand crunched and stamped upon by some mad crazy people round about me.

Thirty years later I still cant play a harmonica but wtf, I got the girl and a pair of cracking wee parasites.

TBM, I said on here months ago, anyone who decides their vote based on the opinions expressed on a football blog is clearly more off their nut than someone who lusts after an ex tory politician, in the scud, covered in mud, carrying and uzi semi automatic.

    So there ye have it.

I went round all the schools in Derby before my daughter started school cos the local school catchment missed us out(700 yards away).

We had a guaranteed place in the next estate and in the Catholic school(baptised). Both were dire. The Catholic school hardly showed us round and assumed we would just sign up. No obvious art, music, fun! A bit nunnish.

We opted for a place in a village up the road which we were in the catchment for!

Zero stigma for Catholic schools in Derby, no sectarianism. Nice people in that town.

In the end we fecked off to Kildare and the best Catholic school i could have wanted.

Funny mix round our way is subtle. Catholic schools are multi-national, omni religious; Educate Together schools are multi-ethnic/no religion; Gaelic schools are multi-religious but omni-ethnic/national.

Protestant families like the Gaelic schools because they are free from the Catholic control, makes sense.

The whispered accusation is that Catholics send their children to Gaelic schools to avoid other nationalities/races – mostly African in our area.

I really hope that is not true.

It is true that most Protestant families attend Gaelic schools which is an advantage in Uni(points for having Gaelic) so I think that inversion of language to religion against the Penal years is ironic but also a cool thing

Since you have never previously shown any aptitude for or inclination towards humour, I will take the above at face value.

In this wee diatribe you come over as the bitterest person on here: and that’s some going.

You campaign actively to promote your view and do not seem capable of a reasoned debate with anyone who holds a contrary view, or in my case, merely questions the process through which your favourites want to achieve a Yes vote.

You have actually advised folks on this board to not answer Ernie Lynch, if they are independence minded. You come across in that comment as a very insecure person who cannot deal with Ernie’s style of dialogue, so you want others to join you in isolating him. Really? This is playground stuff and doesn’t belong on here. If you don’t want to engage with posters, yet want the freedom to be the touchstone for a political view and say what you like with impunity, then North Korea is calling out your name.

You also think that it is valid to drag your children, without solicitation, into this scenario. You reprinted/linked to an essay by your 17 year old son which extolled the same political view as your own. Again your own personal and political insecurity screams out in this action, and yet it doesn’t register with you in the slightest.

You bandy about statements that you think support your own position, while infact they are blatant campaign sound bites, and seem unable to answer reasonable questions that are put to you. The post copied above is a prime example. Let me repeat for clarity, you come onto a Celtic fans blog and start on about your own personal political view, regardless of how sensitive it is or might be to others. Bloggers patiently comment on your bland, sweeping but ultimately unsubstantiated views and statements, and when those bloggers will not accept your evasive waffle you throw a tantrum – again as outlined in the above copied post.

If you can’t accept dialogue with anyone holding a view different to your own, then maybe you need to ask yourself what exactly you are doing on a blog that pride’s itself on comfortably accommodating many opposing views. We accept flouncing as part of the board’s psyche, but you have a permanently high flounce factor.

Laughably today, you attempted to ingratiate yourself with another poster who confessed that he felt a little intimidated at times, because he thought he wasn’t intelligent enough to post his comments. You actually posted that you had met some posters and that they weren’t intelligent at all. With no hint of satire, irony or humour at all, you let that statement remain uncorrected, despite my gentle encouragement to you.

It might not have occurred to you – yet… but by calling everyone in your list, including perhaps myself, “bitter” you have included anyone and everyone who does not see things your way. It is an angry statement from an apparently insecure person, and is of itself so very, very bitter.

Your anger in rejecting any view but your own as “bitter”, is one of the reasons I have grave concerns about this whole independence referendum fiasco. Real debates on real concerns are almost non existent, and anyone who doesn’t stand precisely with you is variously labeled as unpatriotic, bitter, argumentative, etc. If the rest of the world is not to be engaged by you in the pre referendum debate, why should we have any confidence that your post referendum behavior will be any different. Are we to be marginalized in your inclusive independent wee country? Are we to be allocated some status appropriate to our lack of commitment to a jingoistic Scotland, full of tartan, shortbread, bagpipes and midgies?

It also struck me that there is a creepy escalation in your list…starting at the bottom with the Orange Order, which, you naturally enough assume is an organization for which no one on a Celtic fans blog would have any positive views. After starting at that extreme you move notch by notch through the political spectrum, eg UKIP, EDL, BNP, Lib Dems, Tories, Labour and finally end up including some of the people on this blog – and call them all Bitter Together. So having started with a pathetic attempt to ingratiate yourself with our Celtic identity, you finish by trying to separate out from the blog those Celtic fans that fail your Yes Vote Test.

That is probably the most pathetic thing I have witnessed on here in almost 10 years on posting and lurking.

Frankly, I have never seen you post on anything other than the Yes campaign – you may have done so – but not when I have been on.

I am aware that you have some Yes vote political people who you mix with and can call on – your blog conversations with one poster recently made that perfectly clear – but they have no place on here when they use you as their political mouthpiece: for mouthpiece is what you seem to be, as there is no substance to your Yes vote comments on here, and you only want to forcefeed us with your regurgitated tosh.

After the referendum I expect that you will vanish into the ether.

That had me laughing for some inexplicable reason. Am I a bad person?

Don’t answer that purely rhetorical question.

The endless repetitive boring posts on the vote won’t change anybody’s mind.

The issue is complex and the politicians and their acolytes, rather than explain it in succinct terms reduce it to a series of bite sized talking points usually trying to negate the opposition view.

They are learning from US politics and professional spin meisters.
