Green and the interests of Scottish football

789

I’ve read yesterday’s statement from prospective Rangers owner, Charles Green, a few times now, without really understanding what the point was.  When someone issues an unexpected statement the reason is usually obvious.  Not on this occasion.

Published on the official Rangers web site it once and for all confirmed that Duff and Phelps were acting with the approval of Green when they took the SFA to the Court of Session, thereby bringing the entire Scottish game into a potential disrepute situation with Fifa.

Mr Green will now be fully aware of the ramifications of Rangers court action.  They failed in their attempt to have the matter referred back for consideration to the Judicial Panel and, as Paul McConville pointed out yesterday, cannot be ejected from the Scottish Cup.  They are not currently participating in the Scottish Cup, and suspension from a future season’s Cup is not an available punishment.

His legal advice is now likely to conclude that his actions will soon lead to suspension from the Scottish FA.  There is, however, an interesting theme through Green’s short statement that might indicate why his statement was issued:

“I nor my investors wish to see an outcome that would be to the detriment of Scottish Football”.

“….suspension or termination of Rangers Football Club membership of the SFA. That in our view would be a disaster for Scottish football”.

“Expulsion from the Scottish Cup is itself a very serious punishment which would also have a severe impact on Scottish football”.

We are heartened to hear the interests of Scottish football are so core to Mr Green’s heart.  This being the case, he will possibly protect Scottish football by asking the SFA to impose the now-illegal player registration ban on Rangers and beg them not to refer the matter back to the Appellate Panel. The horse has bolted on this one but it’s possibly worth a punt.

I don’t deny that Britain is guilty of many things, I just think you gave a bad example of how a County treats the general public, no freedom, no voice for them in China

No better way to celebrate the joobly than with bread & circuses, a fawning media, has-been/never were celebs, blanket coverage and of course, it’s all paid for by us taxpayers. Throw in some ‘cleansing’ of the area, of homeless ex-services etc and it’s all policed by unpaid, unemployed people who are made to sleep rough.

The organisers must have asked themselves the question: ‘What would Caligula do…?’

  9. There’s a woman I know who has been on the brew for her whole adult life. Her parents were on it before her, so effectively she’s been brought up on it too.

She has the nicest house in the street and believe it or not she has a holiday home AND top of he range camper van. She gets some kind of assistance with trips away too.

Her husband has never worked, her children have had some kiddy on jobs but by and large are also unemployed and living off the state. Some of tehm have a bit of land passed down to them and I think they might make a few bob on the side but the state benefits keep rolling on in.

So do you know what I’m thinking of doing?

Getting a mass said for her, having a big parade through the town, throwing a massive party and generally celebrating the way this woman and her family have so successfully lived off the rest of us all their lives.

Not been on CQN much this weekend. Where I live it is virtually impossible to ignore/avoid the Jubilee celebrations and I have to confess the whole experience appears to have made me grumpy ( more than one person has pointed this out to me at garden parties and even at a pleasant lunch yesterday.

I have lived many, many years in London but grew up in Gorbals , Glasgow where the sentiment was anything but monarchist. Of course as we grow up, mature and the world changes ( eg the Queen visiting the Rememberance Garden in Dublin) we all try and shed any lingering prejudices.

I have spent the weekend with many intelligent ,well – heeled Londoners whose fawning to the Monarchy I find quite breathtaking.

I am very grumpy this morning because I have failed to articulate why I have behaved the way I have over this weekend. Deep in my heart the singing of the National Anthem, Rule Britannia etc invokes a disgust which I cannot shake. These days I hold no enmity towards the person of the Queen but the entire circus disgusts me.

I have spent the morning walking down to the Mall , looking at the crowds, feeling an outsider but comforting myself over and over again with the thought that I am a Citizen not a Subject.

Oh….. and I am. Celtic supporter ( deep joy ).

Of course it may all be much simpler than this. Perhaps all this singing and flag waving is so reminiscent of the Shame that to be associated with it would turn my stomach.

  14. Anyway – for those of you fed up with the sycophancy, the hypocrisy and the blatant attempt to divert your attention from the devestation of the current economic crisis:

I read today that the financial services sector is growing. the very parasites who brought the world to it’s knees, who are driving austerity all over the world, who are telling governments to cut services, jobs and benefits for the poor (but not for Mrs WIndsor) are increasing in number and influence.

    Vomit, vomit vomit.

When is it safe to turn the tele on again,my wife said to me,you can’t stay out in the garden any longer, there are no weeds left.

  16. According to Nevzat Sakar, the vice-

president of Trabzonspor, an agreement on

an £800,000 move for City’s Sol Bamba is

    nearing completion. The popular Ivory

Coast international signed from Hibs just 18

    months ago.

Last year’s big money signing Matt Mills is

also on his way out of the club, but a move

to Celtic has been held up with City wanting

to recoup at least £3M of the £5M they paid

    Reading for him last summer.

Saw this earlier and thought here we go again.

All this talk of replacing Thomo but do we actually NEED another coach?

We have NL, Mjalby as his number 2 and Gary Parker who no one seems to know what he does. No doubt that we’ll have scouts, reserve coaches, under 21, 17 AND 15 coaches (John Kennedy).

Personally, why don’t we endorse Dave “call me God” Cameron’s austerity measures and promote from within, THEREFOR NOT BRING ANYONE IN.

And at the same time HAVE WE SIGNED ANYONE YET?

Goalkeeper, 1 or 2 high ball attacking Centre Backs AND a target man Centre Forward NEEDED NOW – as already repeatedly stated.

At last a great win for the Scots. Andy Robinson’s team have often looked close to being successful (victory in Dublin) but could never get two results in a row. A bit like Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool. Fiji and Samoa to go!

Sad man! If there’s anyone posting anything about the Union be sure Ernie will be there defending the crown.
