Hail Mary, full of grace……

1415

A statement to the stock market by Rangers International today confirmed that they are not a sustainable business, have no bank credit facilities and are unable to accept debit or credit cards for season ticket purchases.

These revelations contravene SFA licence requirements, which would need to be met if the club wanted to participate in Scottish football in season 2014-15.  Before attaining a licence for the forthcoming season a club must demonstrate that is has the finance available to complete its commitments.  Newco Rangers have confirmed they are currently unable to meet this requirement.

Perhaps anticipating their next move, the statement added, “Should the Club suffer a substantial decrease in season ticket income in the next two months, then it would be unable to trade in the short term without seeking additional external funding”.  You suspect this two month timeframe will prove to be significant.

That supporters who chose to automatically renew their season tickets cannot do so is demeaning.  The financial uncertainty behind a season ticket purchase is such that people have been asked to pay by cash, cheque or direct bank transfer.  Utterly, utterly, demeaning.

I sincerely hope whoever is in charge of taking money from fans is in a position to pay them back in the event the club fails.  With this weight of evidence, to bank and spend the money regardless would be despicable.

A few points to bear in mind:

No one is in control of this situation, it was not planned for and there is not a silver bullet to resolve things.

The shareholders and are not a homogenous unit, they have different priorities, aspirations and stress points.

These two things being the case, any amount of carnage can take place once the inevitable crash occurs.

The only plan I can think of goes along the lines of, “Hail Mary, full of grace……..”

Sandy Jardine

I know several CQN’ers were good friends with Sandy Jardine, each of whom assured me of the man’s good character.  Sincere condolences extended to all his family and friends.

But surely you can only judge an election over the whole area it covers?

If not then the Scottish government was “unelected” by just about every area of the country – looking at the regional votes by party the North East region was the only one where they got a majority of the votes.

The Rangers fans were singing of the sash their father wore.

But very soon they changed their tune when the Celtic plan was set, as Lennox crossed to Billy NcNeill and the ball was in the net!

Oh, putting on the agony, putting on the style, 1,2 ,3,4 beautiful goals scoring all the while.Theres nothing in this whole wide world makes you wanna smile, as watching Glasgow Celtic putting on the style.

Now Bobby Lennox he caused trouble with his running through and from a long ball , he scored numbered 2, all day he worked his way to make that defence prance and the Celtic end went round the bend doing the victory dance.

Now just before the interval came goal number 3 and this time it was scored by young George Connolly.Playing in his first cup final , a day he’ll never forget, as he walked the ball round John Greig and placed it in the net.

Now Stevie he’s our centre and he gives his all and more and to him fell the honour of scoring number of scoring number 4 , a dribble down the left wing a shot that homeward sped and once again the Scottish cup was a resting in Parkhead.

Now hard luck Mr Davie White and all yous orange men, for the CELTIC have defeated you , yet once again . Although you say you did not play anything like your best, the Celtic beat you 4 nothing and your still in the wilderness!!

Last night I was kidnapped by a group of scurrilous rogues, forced to drink beer, eat a somewhat splendid curry and listen to an interminable amount of ridiculous stories about Winning Captains past exploits at Nurses night in Clatty Patty’s — the worst example of which was a strange tale of mistaken identity resulting in some pernicious and apparently ugly female being thrown on top of a high hedge from which she could not get down and so had to endure thorns in the arse for some quite considerable time!

Now, I am used to a far higher calibre of social life than this — culture, discourse, philosophical debate and discussion is much more my bag than this type of rabble!

Anyway, busy day yesterday and so haven’t had the chance to read Scottish Football’s latest 120 day review.

I gather it is somewhat reminiscent of being stuck up on a high hedge ( fund ) with no money, with thorns up the arse, whilst watching some of your friends setting said hedge on fire from below!

  14. “This book chronicles the birth of “New Labour”, of which I am not a member

and which, though almost certainly the smallest party in the history of

British Politics, is nevertheless a very powerful organisation, since most

of it’s members are in the cabinet or have supported it financially.

The New Labour “Project” was devised primarily as a way of gaining and then

retaining office by abandoning socialism, distancing the Party from the

trade unions, and working with the Liberal Democrats and some “wet”

    conservatives.

New Labour’s overriding aims have been to build an alliance with corporate

Britain, embrace the concept of federal Europe, stand uncritically with

America in all matters of foreign and defence policy, commit itself to

market forces and globalisation, and seek to legitimise it all in the name

of the “Third Way”, a convenient philosophy apparently espoused by many

    European leaders and President Clinton.

New Labour’s victory in 1997 was built on two quite contradictory pillars

of strength: a desire by most electors to remove the Conservatives and an

equal desire by the Establishment to retain Conservative policies, which

they believed were far safer in the hands of New Labour with a popular

mandate than in the hands of the divided, weak and

    demoralised Conservatives.

Hence the phrase recently used by one of the

prophets of the “Project” “We are ALL Thatcherites now” T.Benn por cierto

  17. GerryBhoy,

They won individual constituencies, clearly – and in some of them may have achieved 50%+ of the vote. But does that mean that the government should be considered as “undemocratic” in the constituencies it didn’t win?

Andn the regional vote, the SNP only achieved over 50% in one of the eight regions, the North East. The figures are all in the link below:

    HH, always in Celtic.

  20. Bobby Murdoch,

It’s academic. The point is the Scottish deficit will have to be funded somehow.

If we renege on UK debt (which Scottish people, business and services have contributed to running up) then funding that deficit will fall on essential public services and working families in the form of higher interest rates demanded by suspicious international markets.

If we don’t get a currency union with rUK (hint: we won’t), then shadowing sterling will require building up billions in sterling reserves to guard against speculative attacks, in which case the burden will once again fall on essential services and the working families that remain here.

  28. Por Cierto whats your point. New labour was centre left rather then left. For the working man rather than the entitlement man. I lived through the Thatcher years had to leave my country to get work , to get a life. Came back while the tories were still in power life was tough, came back again under new labour and life was good for most . Where are you now under Cameron , back in thatchter daysifrom what I can see and hear. It will take a new labour or centre left type of party to win back middle england, assuming the better together holds a few more months. An independent Scotland would be interesting. Our own version of new labour, maybe a similar model to the scandies where small populations have successful centre left philosophies. Works well if everyone works and pulls a shift. More of a reward and recogntion system than entitlements. Gotta make the money before you spend it. Anyway I lived in Scotland in new labour days and it wasn’t so bad. Thats my point.

  33. Taurangabhoy,

Labour will win the next UK election (or at least be the biggest party). The electoral system remains heavily biased in its favour – partly because Scottish constituencies are smaller and Scots remain over-represented in Westminster!

Miliband probably needs only 35 – 37%% of the vote to win a majority The Tories got 37% last time, and will lose some as governments always do, as well as to UKIP. The Lib Dem defectors will break mostly to Labour.

The only question is whether Lab will form a minority or small majority government.

One things the Nats don’t tell you: the UK has not elected a majority Tory government in over twenty years.
