Hail Mary, full of grace……

1415

A statement to the stock market by Rangers International today confirmed that they are not a sustainable business, have no bank credit facilities and are unable to accept debit or credit cards for season ticket purchases.

These revelations contravene SFA licence requirements, which would need to be met if the club wanted to participate in Scottish football in season 2014-15.  Before attaining a licence for the forthcoming season a club must demonstrate that is has the finance available to complete its commitments.  Newco Rangers have confirmed they are currently unable to meet this requirement.

Perhaps anticipating their next move, the statement added, “Should the Club suffer a substantial decrease in season ticket income in the next two months, then it would be unable to trade in the short term without seeking additional external funding”.  You suspect this two month timeframe will prove to be significant.

That supporters who chose to automatically renew their season tickets cannot do so is demeaning.  The financial uncertainty behind a season ticket purchase is such that people have been asked to pay by cash, cheque or direct bank transfer.  Utterly, utterly, demeaning.

I sincerely hope whoever is in charge of taking money from fans is in a position to pay them back in the event the club fails.  With this weight of evidence, to bank and spend the money regardless would be despicable.

A few points to bear in mind:

No one is in control of this situation, it was not planned for and there is not a silver bullet to resolve things.

The shareholders and are not a homogenous unit, they have different priorities, aspirations and stress points.

These two things being the case, any amount of carnage can take place once the inevitable crash occurs.

The only plan I can think of goes along the lines of, “Hail Mary, full of grace……..”

Sandy Jardine

I know several CQN’ers were good friends with Sandy Jardine, each of whom assured me of the man’s good character.  Sincere condolences extended to all his family and friends.

But the version of ‘independence’ that’s on offer, what you’d be voting for, is the SNP’s.

    $$$$

I ENTIRELY disagree with that comment.

What is at stake in the referendum is a vote for independence or not. Not a vote for or against half baked SNP ‘policies’. In an independent country a general election (subsequent to the referendum) determines the government of the day, not the SNP white paper! We won’t get an inteligible answer if people don’t understand the question, will we?

“One things the Nats don’t tell you: the UK has not elected a majority Tory government in over twenty years.”

Yes not a Tory Government just a Government with Tory policies por cierto

  3. GerryBhoy,

    You’re wrong.

You’ll be voting for Salmond to negotiate his version of independence, which as Ernie points out is a very weird version which would leave the manin economic powers in Westminster’s hands (a Westminster more likely to be Tory minus the Labour Scottosh MPs).

You won’t get a vote on whether you agree with what deal Salmond comes back with. And you can bet your bottom bawbee he won’t be taking his “YesScotland” Green and SSP allies into the negotiating chamber.

    So September 18 is all about the Celtic-hating, presbyterian-nationalist, neo-liberal, careerist-centred SNP.

  4. Por Cierto.

You’d notice the difference between a pure Tory govt and this one, believe me.

But the point remains: No majority Tory government in the UK for over 2 decades, and very unlikely to be one next time.

What does that tell you about the “Tory-dominated Westminster settlement”?

If Eck does not win the next Scottish general election, he can fly a kite! In a democracy, you have to be in power to determine government policies and structures.

    That’s not what’s planned.

On a more general point I would have preferred a two stage referendum.

    The first on the principle.

The second, assuming a yes vote in the first, on the detailed package on offer once it had been sorted out after negotiation.

Anything else is buying a pig in a poke.

Maybe that’s what will happen next time, which by my calculation will be no earlier than 2039.

    2014 and 2039. Strange.

Maybe a description of the 20th and 21st centuries. Tragedy followed by farce.

I had the misfortune in discussing this subject with a couple of Sevco fans who had similar concerns to yours, only they also mentioned there would be blood on the streets as well..

    Indeed

    The zombies are still going on about how;

    1) Roy Aitken stole a throw in outside his own penalty area in the 1989 scottish cup final

    2) Bobo Balde stole a corner at Motherwell in may 2008, and

    3) naka winning a free kick 30 yards out at st Mirren

They might be overly deferential (or thick) but they have long memories.

  15. ItaliaBhoy so Labour need a UK. No surprise then that Scotland’s voters eventually migrated to SNP. In my day they were weirdo’s and considered to be Scottish Tories. I know that they have moved to the centre to get the vote. If Scotland was independent there would be no specific reason to vote SNP. There would be a wide range of parties looking for the vote from Nats to Unionists, Red Clydesiders to liberal democrats. I don’t live in Scotland now so the referendum is not my call. I am however interested in what is happening , a hugely significant moment in our history. Choose well and then make whatever is chosen work for the people who live in Scotland.

  16. Por Cierto,

So is an aim of Scottish independence to ensure that “right-wing” politicians are not in government here?

Not very democratic, particularly when one in five Scots vote Tory and I imagine social attitudes across the political spectrum would reveal rather a lot of “right-wing” prejudices.

And anyway, the evidence does not support your contention that Westminster is dominated by right-wing politicians. Since 1992 the Tories have won one outright majority (of 21 seats). Since 1992 Labour has won majorities of 179, 167, and 66.

UK Polling Report has consistently estimated a Labour majority on 2015, based on rolling polls.

  19. The city of london tells the Uk goverment what to do. That is the mega corporations that control the US and trying to control the world. The UK is nothing like a truly democratic system . Cameron is desperate to get the UK involved in more wars.Labour show no signs of having a different foreign policy. The mega powers of darkness want to sell weapons they want new markets across the world . They have no interest in the people in the countries they take over. Scotland has a chance to get out and I hope they do. The sectariam stuff is small fry that can be dealt with later.

As a matter of interest, why do you think an independent Scotland’s political landscape would be dominated by the nationality issue ?

You mentioned Brian Wilson – given his well known views, would it not be likely he would raise the 6-county scenario/comparison as a “Project Fear” tactic ??
