Has this been our most successful transfer window ever?

288

It is not like Celtic to have no one to parade on deadline day, just as it is not like Celtic to have us glowing with contentment at the business they did early in the window.  Reo Hatate (24), Daizen Maeda (24) and Yosuke Ideguchi (25) arrived from Japan, where today Daizen made a 68th minute appearance from the substitutes bench in a World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia.

Matt O’Riley (21) arrived from MK Dons, in the third tier of English football.  Matt has played one year of first team football, clearly a productive one.  His early Celtic performances reinforce the encouraging signs we heard from EFL watchers.  Johnny Kenny (18) arrived from Sligo Rovers as a development prospect.

Maeda scored within minutes of his debut, then watched Hatate steal the show and deservedly grab the Man of the Match award.  Ideguchi came on as a late sub against Hibs before being brutally injured at Alloa.  The early form of all three is encouraging, especially as they cope with living on a new continent, among new coaches and teammates.

We retained all first-choice players, with some on the fringes going out on loan.  The major disappointment was that none of our well-paid bench sitters left.  Has this been our most successful transfer window ever?  Stay tuned to find out.

All the noise in town yesterday came from across the city, where Newco acquired a midfielder who has made seven 90-minute league appearances since August 2017 (only one since going to Italy in 2019).   A friend suggested this was a classic Hail Mary move, although I’m sure that is not how they look at it at Ibrox.  Not all intercessions happen.

Later this month we face Raith Rovers in a Scottish Cup tie.  As things stand, they will field David Goodwillie, whom they signed last night.  Goodwillie was found to have raped a woman at a civil trial in 2017.  Fair play to Rovers fans for their overwhelming opposition to the signing.  They have a fight on their hands for the character of their club.

The Japan – Saudi Arabia game is due to finish around 12:10 UK time.  Hopefully by the time you finish reading this Daizen is in a taxi on his way to the airport.  There will be a good hour in his legs tomorrow night.

  1. All thru recent weeks since ” Party Gate” emerged, Boris Johnson and some of his Cohorts have been stating in the Commons and on TV that under this Tory Government, there are now MORE Job Vacancies in the UK as some sort of ” DEFENCE” of his Governments Policies.

Maybe those figures are Correct….but HOW MANY of those Job Vacancies exist because of hard working Folk being too scared to stay in the UK for fear of being DEPORTED, and who have LEFT The NHS and other poorly paid Jobs and who have LOST their Jobs thru BREXIT ?

Heres the ” IRONY”…Boris is just about ( IF he survives ?) to STREAMLINE NO.10 Downing Street Depts, following the Sue Gray ” Update” on Monday.

So he is about to CREATE even MORE VACANCIES by SACKING some of No10’s staff, to try and save his own skin.

His ” Behaviour” would be funny as Feck…if it wasnt so serious.

I can only imagine that Boris will be asked at PM’s Questions Today..” Is the story in Todays Telegraph is TRUE or NOT” ?

No doubt that once again…. he will REFUSE to answer.

Big Jimmy…it used to be that MP’s deservered the honorific of “Right Honorable” and would fall on their sword if necessary…now they’re a bunch of shameless money grubbing arseholes who wouldn’t know the meaning of honour if their lifes depended on it….

    ……..

    100% CORRECT Mate.

If those figures quoted about Madden are correct, then it really does show him up as a series cheat. Given how dominant we have been in the league the last ten years.

  5. Did Boris ever get a ” LUMBER” at any of the NO.10 Parties ?

If not…why not…as his staff call him ” BIG DOG” ? Aye, he is a Big Dog, cos he is feckin BARKING.

    LOL

I hope and pray that one day soon Boris will SNAP…and have a complete ” MELT DOWN” live on TV, when faced with the TRUT ( Including any Police charges), and the Wastage of Public money…it will be worth the Licence Fee alone.

  6. IF…….big IF…………..

the stats mentioned on Twitter re Boaby Midden are genuine and corrects then it’s big “Hmmmmmmm” territory.

These things can be falsified quite easily and put up there as the truth, so one or two other verifications would help corroborate the story.

    A pedant writes……

The term Right Honourable is restricted to members of the Privy Council.

Ordinary MPs are referred to merely as Honourable.

But otherwise, yeah, they are mostly (not exclusively) a mishmash of self serving and vainglorious chancers.

And the standard has deteriorated over the years.

  8. Naw, am not happy…had to check if it was April 1st, and pinch myself….me n Ernie roughly in agreement…say it aint so, Joe ;-))

Looks like the Madden story is complete tosh, a quick check online and can see Fat Fredo was sent off against us in March 2019, as well as Jordon Jones Sep 2019. We can do without these lies before the big one.

  10. Maybe GIO and JOTA and Co can soften up the Hun defence….and for Daizen Meada to come on for 30 minutes or so and use his PACE to finish the tiring Hun off ?

  12. Hugh’s Kowboys are no’ daft…………

I’d bet the likely outcome is they know how to kontrol and hold-up our performance in a game, especially against thur favourite team.

For me, they come into thur ain, when they slow up or stop a Tim advancement or impede the natural threat one of our better players carries by giving him an early yella……in an important game…….the reds…well. we’ve all seen them given, and we’ve even seen them given when the ref hasn’t seen them………. ( Cheers Wuuullie!)

Boaby’s one for the watchin’………..but I think they are much more sleekit at kovering thur work…….evening it up after the game’s decided, when the threat’s gone or the opposition has been mentally beaton (sp)

It’s only when you look into the stats and the detail behind them will the truth come out.

  13. They’re not lies imo, deliberate falsehoods designed to do a couple of things, chip away at the credibilty of Timdoms concerns and just anither sleekit way of “rubbishing” genuine concerns from a community who’ve suffered bias, bigotry and abuse on and off the park.

Me, I’d like to see the disciplinary report on the huns from foreign refs – and see the glaring differences there.

    Hugh’s Kowboys are crafty.

  14. Question – understandable angst regarding Raith Rovers latest signing.

What I don’t understand, and may be being thick here, is that the player was with Clyde. He has been playing since his conviction.

Why is there a furore now? Is it due to moving to a bigger club? Is this now full time?

Not looking to down play the civil case, I’m just perplexed as to what’s changed.

  15. Lads, restaurant suggestions for Glasgow………….much appreciated, thanks.

We’ll have a youngish hipster wih us, so it’s looking like “two fat ladies” – cheers Jinky………………..

  16. While is VITAL that Celtic fully concentrate on OUR OWH game Tonight, it would be an added BONUS IF Celtic can keep ARIBO on the back foot, and NOT be allowed any freedom and space to run at our defence.

I KNOW that is easier said than done, as he is in my opinion far and away their best player and creator.

IF Celtic can get right into the Hun Faces and BITE a few ankles from the start…the Hun may not fancy it ?

I can only HOPE that ANGE has us playing high up the park and closing them down quickly, and not allow them to settle etc ?

In JOTA and to a lesser extent ABADA, we have players who can turn the Hun defence inside out, but I am also hoping to see young Matt O’Riley getting into attacking positions in the Huns Penalty area, and posing a real threat .

NOT forgetting wee HATATE who has his powerful shots from distance to worry the Huns.

Am I hoping for just TOO MUCH…LOL ?

  17. Morning CQN’rs

Palpable excitement for this evening. Genuine optimism / expectation despite so many good players unavailable.

    What explains this ?

    1. Ange knows what he is doing and the full squad appear to have bought in. We create lots of chances even against top Europa teams, home and away. We will carve good, clear openings tonight.

    2. GVB is quite a defensive minded coach I believe. I am sure we will control possession for the most part. This in itself doesnt mean anything, but think back to those limp defeats to Gerrards team where players of limited ability like Kamara and Arfield outpassed our midfield due to lack of structure / shape / tactics etc

That wont happen tonight, even in the absence of technicians like NR, DT and Calmac (imagine he starts…!!!)

Key will be taking our chances – stating the obvious I know but GG, Jota, Abada must be clinical with whatever opportunities arise and I think we will win, maybe even with a bit to spare. They do have a threat with Kent, Aribo, maybe even Diallo, so our back four – and whoever plays DM – need to be on their A game, but there is not a hope in hell that they will dominate us and we havent always been able to say that recently.

  18. Uncle Jimmy…just checked….incident(rape) occurred 2011…found guilty in civil court 2017…why that didn’t end his carrer there and then is mystifying, and why Clyde continued to employ him is abhorrent…as to why now? Honestly don’t know…mibbe it’s about time he sees some consequences for his actions

  19. UNCLE JIMMY on 2ND FEBRUARY 2022 9:47 AM

He hasn’t been convicted. He was never prosecuted. He lost a civil action for damages.

  20. THELURKINTIM

I would be happy with that team.

But I think he will play Taylor.

If he does , watch the huns target that area of the park

  21. Civil Court trials and Criminal Court trials are totally different regards burden of proof…Civil Court is based on a balance of probability, Criminal Court is based on beyond reasonable doubt given all evidence…

  22. THELURKINTIM on 2ND FEBRUARY 2022 10:17 AM

It’s not just that. In a civil action the victim/complainer/pursuer has a direct financial interest in the outcome. It’s not a satisfactory way to deal with such issues.

  23. Ernie, that’s crass…the victim, having been let down by the PF pursued the only other option availabe….you think a 6 year persuit for some sort of legal justice was for financial gain? Ffs the Judge in summation literally called Goodwille (and his co-defendant) glib and shameless liars

  24. THELURKINTIM on 2ND FEBRUARY 2022 10:39 AM

I’m taking generally, not about any specific case.

That’s the problem though with these issues. Reason goes out the window when emotion comes in the door.
