HAYES HEADING FOR X-RAY, RODGERS HOPEFUL

1

JONNY HAYES, carried off on a stretcher in today’s 2-0 win at Dundee, will have an X-ray on his shin after an accidental collision.

The Celtic winger and Dundee defender Josh Meekings clashed in the first-half of the encounter at Dens Park.

The Tayside defender was able to hobble off, but was on crutches after the game.

Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers said: “Jonny Hayes took a really sore one on the shin.

“He’ll go for an X-ray, but, hopefully, he’ll be okay. The medical team are saying it might only be bruising on the shin, which is hopefully the case, but we will see what the X-ray says.

“It was unfortunate for him because he started the game really well.”

“I felt the game should have been stopped immediately, with the noise of it, and Jonny’s reaction suggested it was a bad one. But as long as both players are okay, I won’t gripe about that.”

Rodgers, preparing for the meetings against Sevco Rangers on Saturday, was delighted with the display that brought first-hand goals from James Forrest and Leigh Griffiths.

He added: “It was about the hunger to win the game and I think that was pretty clear how we started.

“We scored a very good goal. Great move. Great passing. Our possession was really good and we opened them up in numbers and finished off really well.

“And the second one was a great demonstration of that hunger.

“I think we’re looking pretty good. We’re looking fit and strong and focused, especially at this time of year.

“It was an important three points for us today. We’ll recover now and get ready for what will be another really good game at the weekend.”
