  2. It’s Petrov v Milner as Paradise set to host ‘A Match For Cancer’

By: Newsroom Staff on 20 Apr, 2018 16:11

LATER  this year, Celtic FC Foundation will host a charity game – A Match for Cancer – which will see the return of a host of familiar figures to Paradise, together with a number of new faces to grace the hallowed turf – all with the intention of raising money to fight cancer.

SO PUT SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2018, IN YOUR DIARY!

‘A Match for Cancer’ will take place at Celtic Park on Saturday, September 8 with a 2pm kick-off, and it promises to be a special day in Paradise. Every penny raised will be devoted to tackling cancer through three equal beneficiary charities – Celtic FC Foundation, the Stiliyan Petrov Foundation and the James Milner Foundation.

The match will see Celtic legend, Stiliyan Petrov and Liverpool midfielder, James Milner pull together opposing squads, and a number of former players are already lined up including Henrik Larsson, Lubo Moravcik, Hristo Stoichkov, Steven Gerrard and Luis Garcia. And there will be many more famous faces announced in the coming months, from the worlds of football and entertainment.

Stiliyan Petrov said: “I’ve been involved in a few charity games at Celtic Park and every one of them has been a wonderful and uplifting experience. The supporters never fail to get behind the cause and I believe this one will be particularly close to their hearts as we aim to challenge cancer.

“James hasn’t experienced the magic of the Celtic support at Paradise and I’ve told him he’s in for a day he will never forget. I’m working hard to pull together a winning squad and, with Henrik and Lubo already on board, I’m off to a flyer! Let’s just say I’m quietly confident.”

At the prospect of facing off against his friend, James Milner, said: “I’ve heard so much about the unique and extraordinary atmosphere at Celtic Park and I can’t wait to get there.

“I’m well aware of the charitable history of Celtic and it’s a real honour to be involved in this match as we all pull together to make a difference in the fight against cancer. I’m going to have a pretty special squad on the day, so Stiliyan better prepare himself!”

Celtic FC Foundation Chief Executive Tony Hamilton, added: “Stiliyan is a very special former Celt, adored by our supporters and James Milner is a Liverpool star, playing at the highest level. I am very grateful that they have given up their time to partner their two charities with Celtic FC Foundation.

“According to Cancer Research UK, one in two people will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives. It’s a horrendous statistic and we feel very strongly about trying to have a positive impact on those suffering from cancer and their families, through this match

TTT-until yesterday I wasn’t that impressed with Mcginn, but yesterday it was like he was showing BR his cv,he was outstanding ?

    *******

Sorry for the late reply. Just reading back.

Like you, I wasn’t sure about Mc.Ginn. I was influenced by those who had seen more of him than I had,

However, yesterday showed exactly why we need a player like that, The one we have is imperious, but coming towards the end of his reign.

We need Scott Brown at the top of his game….and that didn’t happen yesterday.

I said in my earlier post that I didn’t think we have another “captain” or “Leader” in the team.

Tierney is not ready for that role yet.

Not for the first time this season has Mc.Ginn dominated our midfield.

He is ten years younger than Scott and , to me, it looks like a reincarnation of the iconic photo of Neil Lennon and Scott Brown standing nose to nose, with neither man willing to yield.

I wonder how that turned out?

  7. well done Broony …well deserved …awfy braw

    Big Kris Ajer robbed.

  10. Just catching up. Cosy Corner Bhoy . Can you please pass on my thoughts and best wishes to Mick for a speedy recovery. DD . Hope the new job goes well. Lionsroar67 . You’ve not had your problems to seek health wise B.Keep the faith & get well soon. On other matters. Pink might be the new black, fashion wise , but it’s a non starter for me as a Celtic strip . 40 shades of Green. Plenty to chose from. I will say, yet again, McGinn for Celtic is a no brainier. The game ain’t about eleven players , its about a squad of good players. McGinn has tenacity which isn’t abundant in our squad when having to defend. He also has energy and can add goals from midfield. He’s a good yin . Lastly , Wits , if your lurking, enjoyed your company yesterday . Good night all, and sleep well, especially the good guys from here with health issues. HH

  11. Absolutely No Mercy next Sunday Celtic.

    Score those Incredible Celtic Goals.

Aidan was hiding the fact he wasn’t bothered about a potential leg breaking tackle on his opponent yesterday. Their Coach said he was almost in tears when it happened, very Big of him to go out of the way to talk to me about it and to try to reassure Aidan that there was nothing wrong with his whole hearted challenge, he had taken a few sore ones prior.

The game was abandoned as it was feared the boy had a really bad one. The tackle was as clean as a whistle but the big dude didnae expect the ferocity of the challenge.

Thankfully, the Young Dude has just ligament and tissue damage. Aidans leg is a bit mangled too. It was on my Mind tonight, God only knows how wee Aidan was feeling. The most excellent Coach has put our minds at ease.

    God Bless the Lionsroar Bhoy.

  12. I dinnae like to call off anything.

Aidans team is mainly Sevco supporters. As they are @ that age where you drift away.

I told the Most excellent coach that Me and Aidan will be going to the game next week.

Greg has recently lost his Dad, Jack has lost his Granda.

Good Coaches disnae matter whit team ye Support.

    EK can’t use anymore postponements.

Thankfully the numbers attending training etc are rising again.

I said to the Big Man that me and Aidan are going to the game next Sunday.

    Morning Tims….

DD, hope yir new beginning this morning goes well….

Mick n Billy, hope your both well this morning, and of course that goes for all the rest of you with ailments ….

    ………………..

I see the Celtic blog are running a story about Murty having a sore face, I watched the interview before yesterdays game and I must admit it does look like a bruise, it could be from anything though, ie training or doing handstands again….

About the only thing you can discount is his 11 million striker doing it, I’m sure you all know why.

Anyway I hope he wasn’t gubbed, there is a few more I would like to see getting it before him..

  17. Good luck DD.

It’s the same feeling as seeing a wane away to their first day at school.

  18. Just read back to see the news about BMCUWP & LionsRoar. Wishing you both the best and hopefully you both have speedy recoveries!

    You’ll be in my thoughts.

  19. Delaneys Dunky

Best of luck with the new job – I’m sure you’ll be absolutely fine!

  20. Morning all

Doc’s appointment at 10.40 so time to post.

I was at Easter Road on Saturday and was very disappointed with the way we played- very early on, even before first goal, it felt as though it was not going to be our day. It was all a bit like the trip to Tynecastle in our centenary season and did not get the result that day, losing 2-1 with our goal scored late and by a substitute. At least it was not the near despair of the draw at East End Park 20 years ago.

But Saturday was typical of an awful lot of games we have played this season- team looking sluggish and unable to play the game the way we wanted to. Broony and for most of the game Ajer were honourable exceptions but the rest looked ‘flat’. We are hardly in a bad position but I doubt many will look back on this league campaign with much pleasure. But things could be worse I know. It could be 8 years ago!

As for McGinn I would sign him unless Hibs ask for something nearer 8 figures than 6. He looks to me a better player than Broony did 11 years ago ( although Scott was younger then than McGinn is now I think). No guarantee he will turn out as good as SB has but worth a punt.

Anyway have a good week y’all. As Penelope Pitstop might have said

    Jimbo67

  21. My friends in Celtic,

Not interested in where John McGinn comes from or his background. Is he good enough to play for us is the only relevance.

I only really see him when he plays against us. I am mindful that many players raise their game against us ; so despise the clamour from a fair percentage on here to sign him, i would imagine our scouts will be evaluating how he plays on a weekly basis.

Others may be better placed to judge rather than myself, however I am not convinced: Yet.

HH to all. And especially to all associated with CQN who are in our thoughts and / or prayers.

  22. Happy St George’s day to our neighbours despite the fact most of them couldn’t tell you the date from the top of their head.

Good luck to DD in the new job.

A big thank you to CRC for inviting me along to the POTY last night, a good time was had by all. Also thanks to Andy F for giving me the use of his ST for Sunday – a charitable donation will be made.

Finally, a wee birdie told me last night that the Compliance Officer’s report has been compiled and is sitting on the CEO’s desk awaiting action and has been sitting there since before Regan left! Important for Celtic to exert any influence they have and ensure that the right man fills the post and not one of Petrie’s puppets.

  23. 50 shades of green on

Imho young John Mcginn, would be an asset to the Celtic midfield , he ain’t the finished article yet, but playing and training with our squad will bring him on….

I would sign him rather than see him be swallowed up down south with some no mark team who are only there because of sky’s money……

    H.H
