Hide your scarf, your ref for the League Cup semi

898

Q. So you were a Rangers season ticket holder, when did you stop?
A. A few years ago.  I work weekends and was seldom getting to games.

Q. How do you feel about how Rangers were treated in 2012?
A. How do any of us feel?  It wasn’t our fault, one guy came in and did all the damage, then sinister forces took advantage.  Every last one of us feel the same way.

Q. How do you feel about the League Cup semi-final, are you looking forward to it?
A. Not really, but we need to do whatever it takes to make sure we don’t get embarrassed.  Years of being subjected to the effects of what Charles Green called “bigotry” means we need to fight with everything we’ve got.  We can’t let Celtic embarrass us, need to stand up to them.

Q.  Thanks, Robert.  One more question, are you available to referee that game?
A.  You know me, aye ready!

The forthcoming League Cup semi-final will be one of the most difficult games to referee and police in the history of Scottish football.  The police will have their most experience Match Commander on duty.  The SFA will not have their most experienced referee on duty, instead they have given the game to former Rangers season ticket holder, Bobby Madden.

The authorities must be independent and be seen to be independent.  Former season ticket holders are acceptable and welcome as referees, but when you face extraordinary circumstances, take extraordinary care in selecting your referee.  I don’t know a single ‘Rangers’ fan who doesn’t have animated views on what happened in recent years.  They want to beat us next month more than at any time in original-Rangers 140-year history.  Why is one of them the referee?

Craig Thomson is widely regarded as unaligned and Scotland’s top official.  There must be a story explaining why he wasn’t given the game.

Our team selection for the League Cup semi-final doesn’t bother me.  We can have Scepovic, Guidetti, Stokes or Griffiths up front, Efe and Charlie at the back, I’d still back us to win.  Can’t say I’m too worried about the other lot either, even if they manage to hold onto all their, ‘stars’.

What does concern me is how the game is refereed.  Before it, CQN will write about how important it will be to keep 11 men on the field, not to dive into tackles inside our penalty area, and not to get drawn into a levelling battle.

You can write the script about how this one is going to play out, we’ll be kicked, elbowed and incited, with liberal dramatic tumbles taken in and around our box.  In a decade writing CQN I’ve only discussed referees around a dozen times but the selection for this one is alarming. Mr Madden will be scrutinised more than at any time in his professional life.  He has an enormous challenge ahead.

Jobo, I posted this below last night, don’t know if u saw it.

I was at the jack white gig in November, my pal pulled off a wee gem

    Outrageous refereeing decisions:

How about syme trying to send Tony Shepherd off in the 1986 League Cup final because he (syme) had been hit by a coin thrown from the crowd?

  4. So after lliambas gives Doncaster reassurances that riff will not go bust.

If they then do go bust what happens then.

Please don’t say business as usual.

Well okay then just say it.

  5. Of course it’s a laughable, decision to give madden the game. But it’s done for the reasons we suspect. The cheating will be beyond horrendous.

So why don’t celtic say something??

Dos they think it’s good for business…

Reading back on the catalogue of biased ref decisions that benefitted rfc1872 (and their are hundreds in my lifetime).

I was told years ago that in 66-67, Celtic had more players booked than Deadclub, who were also awarded more penalties than Celtic. The same all conquering Celtic team, showing Europe a new trailblazing brand of attacking football, the best side ever in Scottish and perhaps British football, actually accumulated less international caps than their Govan rivals of the period. Surprised?

Hun ridden SFA, corrupt and rotten to the core, a conspiracy? Jock Stein would have said so.

Nothing’s changed, and although one club aint around any longer, their spawn will be the new beneficiary.

Hi mhate hope all you and yours are well .:-)

The issue of attending a Celtic game is as you know a highly emotional event be it.(when was it anything else)

.I have to debate that fans who want to follow our team, simply that, are condoning the actions of SFA/SPFL If that be so then any attendance at a SPFL is condoning the fraud.i would debate they are following Celtic.

The Celticfan in your analogy I would contest is not the spouse but the son or daughter in said relationship where the wean just wants to go and do the activity it always has done(go to thematch)

    Celtic fans follow Celtic.

It is not defined anything other than that.1994 told us that when our own club was in a perilous state yet we still went

.it could be suggested that to stop going due the criminality at £brox

Is to augment ‘fraudfirm’ its not.they just simply want to watch Celtic.following Celtic is not defined by the cheat or its fa

The game is squinted here, events recently with ND overriding company law the latest, compounded with a compliant media.but it is up to our club to speak out.(I know I know).

It is a poser for Celtic fans.whatever they choose to do it will be to back Celtic and thats ok.

The politicing will unravel in much the sameway as history will be on our side.

    Hope your well and hny

Loved every day when there is no chance of playing them.

Many celebrate that their club is dead yet can’t wait to play them under any pretext.

Whatever the result on 1st Feb – Celtic cannot win.

With Collum Thomson Murray etc out of the country the other choices were-

    1. Steven McLean (brother born in that well known part of the North of Ireland called Rutherglen and played for the Huns)

    2. Andrew Dallas – well known for wearing Hun training gear when out and about in Motherwell and son of Dallas

When a player signs for a rival club, he’s given the benefit of doubt that he’ll do his best for his current club and won’t deliberately make things easy for his previous club.

Don’t you think Madden should be given the benefit of doubt, as he’s no longer a Rangers season ticket holder and he’s a professional referee?

… No? Me neither, because he was a known Rangers fan and there’s a strong possibility he now supports the new version.

Surprised he’s been ‘chosen’ but not too concerned that it’ll stop us pumping them. I’m more concerned for our players and just hope the ref doesn’t try to ‘let the game flow’ when it suits him.

If Doncasters wife told him she was going out for drinks with a male friend, he’d maybe worry.

If she told him she’d not be home until morning, he’d be really worried.

If she told him not to worry…. he wouldn’t, because he’s a very trusting chap it seems.

What are the chances of scottish football being fixed, from the top any time soon? How can these clowns be removed? Seriously, does anyone have any insight regarding a plan?

  30. Tambo.

That is my issue with Madden. He is the kind of ref who lets the game flow, but my doing that the more skilful players are kicked off the pitch. People wonder why Scotland doesn’t produce many skilful players, refs like him are part of the problem. I seen it at pro youth for years, clearly coaches have to take the blame too as they encourage their players to take out the skilful ones. I once challenged a ref on the tackles he was letting go unpunished. He replied that he was seeing them and awarding free kicks, my issue was it was continuing as he wasn’t booking anyone. He just didn’t get it. Incidentally young Mr Dallas was maybe a bit officious but I have to give him credit, he did allow the more gifted players to flourish and wasn’t slow in booking the nethanderals. Let’s see if that continues as he moves up the ranks.

Hartson might have missed a penalty but he had a goal wrongly disallowed too that would have changed the game.

This was at a time when the Huns were getting even more help than usual from the masons in the black e.g. Rowbotham giving them 3 dubious penalties at Dens Park

  32. I watched the half hour documentary on Monday night on Sky about the Lions. One game where Jinky was getting booted up and down. He dusted himself down and ripped the Defender apart, taunting him. We must get back to that , when Players and or Refs do not respect or protect the footballer.

If we are cheated, given an honest mistake against us, booted black and blue, pick ourselves up , roll up the sleeves and get it right up them.
