Hide your scarf, your ref for the League Cup semi

898

Q. So you were a Rangers season ticket holder, when did you stop?
A. A few years ago.  I work weekends and was seldom getting to games.

Q. How do you feel about how Rangers were treated in 2012?
A. How do any of us feel?  It wasn’t our fault, one guy came in and did all the damage, then sinister forces took advantage.  Every last one of us feel the same way.

Q. How do you feel about the League Cup semi-final, are you looking forward to it?
A. Not really, but we need to do whatever it takes to make sure we don’t get embarrassed.  Years of being subjected to the effects of what Charles Green called “bigotry” means we need to fight with everything we’ve got.  We can’t let Celtic embarrass us, need to stand up to them.

Q.  Thanks, Robert.  One more question, are you available to referee that game?
A.  You know me, aye ready!

The forthcoming League Cup semi-final will be one of the most difficult games to referee and police in the history of Scottish football.  The police will have their most experience Match Commander on duty.  The SFA will not have their most experienced referee on duty, instead they have given the game to former Rangers season ticket holder, Bobby Madden.

The authorities must be independent and be seen to be independent.  Former season ticket holders are acceptable and welcome as referees, but when you face extraordinary circumstances, take extraordinary care in selecting your referee.  I don’t know a single ‘Rangers’ fan who doesn’t have animated views on what happened in recent years.  They want to beat us next month more than at any time in original-Rangers 140-year history.  Why is one of them the referee?

Craig Thomson is widely regarded as unaligned and Scotland’s top official.  There must be a story explaining why he wasn’t given the game.

Our team selection for the League Cup semi-final doesn’t bother me.  We can have Scepovic, Guidetti, Stokes or Griffiths up front, Efe and Charlie at the back, I’d still back us to win.  Can’t say I’m too worried about the other lot either, even if they manage to hold onto all their, ‘stars’.

What does concern me is how the game is refereed.  Before it, CQN will write about how important it will be to keep 11 men on the field, not to dive into tackles inside our penalty area, and not to get drawn into a levelling battle.

You can write the script about how this one is going to play out, we’ll be kicked, elbowed and incited, with liberal dramatic tumbles taken in and around our box.  In a decade writing CQN I’ve only discussed referees around a dozen times but the selection for this one is alarming. Mr Madden will be scrutinised more than at any time in his professional life.  He has an enormous challenge ahead.

Wacky soccer guy Robert Sarver has raised his bid for Sevco to £20m!

The Phoenix Suns owner is providing a useful distraction for the cash strapped club which requires over £8m to see the season out in it’s current condition.

Sarver’s interest surfaced on Sunday, was commented on in an Alternative Investment Market statement on Monday then rejected by the club on Tuesday.

With no chance of a consensus between the current warring factions and an AGM resolution to accept outside cash rejected the chances of Sarver being greeted like the new Craig Whyte or Charles Green are non-existent.

More than two weeks after their AGM Sevco have still to launch the share issue needed to survive but despite all those factors Sarver is intent on milking his 15 minutes of fame.

This morning he announced: “ If the board agrees to my proposal, I would provide a total of £16.4-£20m to be invested in the club as the board determines – £6.5m immediately and the remainder following a share issue, taking the major step necessary to restore financial stability to the club.

“I know, of course, that there are various groups of prominent fans who have been working hard for a long time to bring change to the club and they can rest assured that I am committed to building a strong partnership with fans and key stakeholders to do what is best for the club.

“I fully realise that a strong sports club needs local investment, local directors and local support to be successful.

“I’ve received messages of support from many Rangers fans and really appreciate their good wishes – even if sometimes I don’t immediately get their Scottish sense of humour!

“After everything they have been through in recent years, I understand some are rightly cautious about a guy they’ve never heard of wanting to get involved in their club. I’d feel exactly the same way.

“But hopefully I can combine my financial resources and knowledge of professional sport with strong local leaders and top-notch management to bring Rangers back to elite level.”

In today’s AIM announcement Sevco confirmed that Sandy Easdale has been repaid his £500,000 emergency loan from the clearance of a cheque from Brentford for Lewis MacLeod.

Before the rejoicing from the south side commences they should read very carefully this mornings statement….especially £20m with an immediate LOAN of £6.5m….this substantial LOAN amount would need to be against a secured asset….

  5. TET,

The name was in support of Lenny after the shame game it’s been a long time, I’ve accepted the idea Lenny won’t be back anytime soon :)

  6. So we are to believe some crap ex-hun player had a word with this basketball (case) and he in return has offered nearly 27Million.

Load of shyte !!!!…………………………Ashleys pawprints all over it.

  7. Lionroars67,

I take it all the football debts the new club took responsibility for have been paid off then ?

  8. Burgas…,

If you look at the offer closely, the loan (£6.5M) has to be paid off within 90 days, I expect the same money would be recycled and recounted to make the £27M

  9. TET,

That would have meant investment in his judgement which would have only led to spending money, not on the boards agenda of quality reduction.

    Tiny Tim,

6.5m in as a loan to get them to end of season, then he will underwrite a share issue to tune of 10 to 14m. These figures would allow them to cover loses and onerous contracts for next season.

    Do the MASH.

  13. Canman

Aye, but with minimal investment, combined with not selling, we would be in the CL I reckon.

A greeting Prophet sitting on his throne with fawning armed to the teeth nutjobs at his feet and saying – ” What a bummer it is being worshipped by idiots “

  15. As I just replied to @macnallymirror if those that are aligned against AShley want more power it’s going to cost them 50% more than it would have before Sarver got involved.

His involvement is ramping the share price up nothing more. If he was at all serious he’d be offering a premium on the shareprice not a lower amount.

  16. Maybe I’m being an idiot here, but I don’t find any humour or satire in this, Je Suis Charlie.

Where’s it been during the last 15 years? Where’s the je suis [insert non European name here] been? I think the average figures will confirm more than 10 children a day murdered in western invasions let alone adults. Try quantifying that if you include Africa, moreso if you include death by famine (ie, lack of clean water which equates the life of a child to 10p in our own money).

Meanwhile, everyone falls over themselves to express facebook support for those in Paris, with little regard for the lives of children being lost every day in brutal, evil circumstances due to direct western influence (aye you and me and our tax money), (to name a very few) in Rwanda, Tunisia, Moroccco, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Somalia, Pakistan, Somalia, Sierra Leonne, Ethiopia, Burundi etc etc. etc etc etc etc and etc, where a child might be considered lucky not to be raped to death before aged 4 while we in Europe celebrate the best priced iphone using materials sourced using the above “resources”.

However, I’m sure the aim of evil, malicious and anonymous terrorism such as yesterday is to highlight the above, rather than have the whole of Europe discussing anything else.

  17. FFM,

Fair enough but are you saying the people and mentality that commit those atrocities are different from the people who carried out yesterday’s attack and that we should ignore it like we ignore the ones you mentioned ?

  18. I think if the ‘bored’ employed a wee bit of savvy….they’d be fighting the Magnificent Green Brigades corner and they could be saving a few bob as well.

On the handful of times that I’ve been to CP since MO’N left…the product on the pitch was enough to put you to sleep hardly any passes – hardly any shots at goal – some no bad defending though.

Then, Neil Lennon got the ole Jungle drums beating again or, as he put it – bringing back the thunder. Under Neils term of manager – the Green Brigade were major players and, Neil connected with hem superbly.

Then when Neil had been reigned-in by the ‘bored’ after all the ‘shame-game’ p#sh…the magic started to fade and, for me…the GB were the stars of the show – taking all the attention away from the p#sh poor product on the pitch – a trick missed by Pete-the-piss-ripper.

Celtic Park will remain p#sh until a new Jungle is built. Ach well……

I am sure that no one hinted at justification for the murder of cartoonists, for just being cartoonists. If this is enough to drive you to murder then you don’t really need an excuse- do you?
