Celtic have completed the signing of 20-year-old Nigerian, Rabiu Ibrahim subject to a medical, after he was released by PSV Eindhoven earlier this month. Rabiu is known as a creative-central midfielder, a role that Celtic have played possibly as few as a dozen times in the last decade.
After leaving Nigeria full of promise as a 17-year-old the player failed to make the desired impact in Portugal and the Netherlands, but will still be regarded as a development project by the Celtic technical staff. His short history in Europe, with tales of agents and representation investors already has enough material for a short novel, which will not have aided development.
The job for Celtic is to get Rabiu plugged back into his potential. It remains to be seen what role he is deployed in when he gets the chance.
Welcome to Celtic, Rabiu.

Tiny lights dance inside his eye
They dance with the care
of snowflake flies
They talk all day and whisper all night
Is that anyway to live
Say goodbye
Accept this fate without any anger
Say goodnight
Turn out the light and close the door on your way out
Tiny voices inside his mind
They sing with the whine of Christmas time
An empty letter he could’ve left
Is that anyway to die
Say goodbye
Accept this fate without any anger
Say goodnight

Reminds me of a report in a Seattle newspaper. A dismembered head was found in a wood. The head was badly cut up and the ears had been removed with a sharp instument.
A few days later, the headline was . . .
EARS FOUND IN PROBE ON HEAD
Minty don’t know what he’s done…
Robert owes half to Grenville
Who in turn gave half to Larry
Who adored my instrumentals
And so he gave half to a foreign publisher
She took half the money that was earned in some far distant land
Gave back half to Larry and I end up with half of goodness knows what
Oh can somebody explain why things go on this way
I thought they were my friends I can’t believe it’s me, I can’t believe that I’m so green
Eyes down round and round let’s all sit and watch the moneygoround
Everyone take a little bit here and a little bit there
Do they all deserve money from a song that they’ve never heard
They don’t know the tune and they don’t know the words
But they don’t give a damn
There’s no end to it I’m in a pit and I’m stuck in it
The money goes round and around and around
And it comes out here when they’ve all taken their share
I went to see a solicitor and my story was heard and the writs were served
On the verge of a nervous breakdown I decided to fight right to the end
But if I ever get my money I’ll be too old and grey to spend it
Oh, but life goes on and on and no one ever wins
And time goes quickly by just like the moneygoround
I only hope that I’ll survive
So this is how it feels to be Ranges…
t’s no good praying to the powers that be
‘Cause they won’t shake the roots of the money tree
No good praying to the pristine alters
Waiting for the blessing with Holy water
They like the same old wealth in the same old hands
Means the same old people stay old people stay in command
Watch your money-go-round; watch your money-go-round
They got it wrapped up tight, they got it safe and sound
Watch your money-go-round; watch your money-go-round
As you fall from grace and hit the ground
Too much money in too few places
Only puts a smile on particular faces
Said too much power in not enough hands
Makes me think “get rich quick; take all I can”
They’re too busy spending on the means of destruction
To ever spend a penny on some real construction
Watch the money-go-round; watch the money-go-round
They amuse themselves as they fool around
Watch your money-go-round; watch your money-go-round
Do like they say, make them vulnerable
No good looking to the Empire corners,
“Civilization” built on slaughter
Carrying hopes and carrying maps
The spinless ones fall in their laps
The brave and the bold are the ones to be fooled
With a diet of lies by the Kipling school
Watch your money-go-round; watch your money-go-round
But I just can’t help being cynical
Watch your money-go-round; watch your money-go-round
Do like I say, make me wonderful
Their morals are clean and their clear
They bend your arm and they bend your ear
Said they bend your mind as you talk in circles
Bend over forwards, this won’t hurt you
Till there’s blood in your lap; blood on your hands
Watch the money-go-round; watch the money-go-round
Come spend a penny, go out with a pound
Watch the money-go-round; watch the money-go-round
As you fall from grace and hit the ground
(On the money-go-round, you wanna get on but it won’t slow down)
The need your votes and you know where to send ’em
Be we don’t get the choice of a public referendum
On all the real issues that affect our lives
Like the USA base to which we play midwife
Take a cruise and forget this scene
Said come back later when the slates wiped clean
Watch your money-go-round; watch your money-go-round
Born of woman, killed by man
Watch the money-go-round; watch your money-go-round
Do like they pray, make it wonderful
The good and righteous sing their hymns
The crimpoline dresses who have no sins
Christians by day, killers in war
The hypocrites who know what they’re fighting for
Killing for peace, freedom and truth
But they’re too old to go so they send the youth
Watch the money-go-round, watch the money-go-round
I don’t think he was an astronaut
Watch the money-go-round, watch the money-go-round
I must insist – he was a Socialist!
Watch your money-go-round; watch your money-go-round
They got it wrapped up tight, they got it safe and sound
Watch your money-go-round; watch your money-go-round
As you fall from grace and hit the ground
Is Ibrahim better than Dylan McGeoch or Paul George, young players who play in similar position as him? Will his signing limit the development of these two and others in our development squad or will the likes of McGeoch, George, Twardyk be sent out on loan to gain experience?
A strange signing given our strength in depth in midfield and our apparent crop of exciting youngsters already coming through. Unless of course there is plans to sell someone.
The Daily (Gers can be Kings of Europe) Record insist Mervan Celik will arrive in Glasgow to sign for Ragers.
He will receive Fleckadinho’s wages, and Davy Weir’s Tracksuit.

So when’s Hunageddon? (thumbsup)
The sad thing is this: The instant that Ki steps onto an EPL surface, his value will automatically double in price.Former young Asian footballer of the year, current South Korean footballer of the year.
The elegant footballer, reminds me of a younger version of Real’s Alonso. He finds it difficult to shine in the SPL,at times.Playings surfaces that resemble turnip fields,no protection from the talentless hammer-throwers.
Think he would be best suited to La Liga,or Serie A.
No doubting his pure footballing talent though,no doubts whatsoever on that score.

I can’t see it though, Lenny has been great with the youngsters.

Good morning fellow Celts from a cloudy, wet, dreich North Hampshire
Wondering if we have any more surprises on the hiring front …CB and another Midfield sounds like the fruits of diligent scouting continue to produce dividends..
But …are the priorities being prioritised?
we need a player that can hold the ba’ up and stick the heid on some of those superb crosses our wide players deliver…WE NEED THOSE GOALS TO WIN THIS LEAGUE!
it is no coincidence that Jimmy McGrory the greatest goalscorer in British history and Celtic legend. par excellence, was know by his teamates as the ‘Golden Crust’ for the number of win bonuses they earned due to his ability to head the ba’ into the pokey with awesome force, precision and regularity. He was less well known as ‘The Mermaid’ …not down to his swimming abilities …but because some say he had nae ‘feet’ . Which was not the case, as records show he could fire a few in with the boot too.
I also give you Henke of fond memory …those two in Sevilla…fair enough we missed out on that occasion, but his headed goals in crucial matches exemplify the difference a ‘heidmaister’ can make to a team
I hear you say ..aye ..but these guys were exceptional…but at the next level there was wee Dixie fae Linwood, Choccy McClair, Dareisay Wee Mo (tinhat on), Macca…could all get on the end of a cross …none of these guys were huge
I was surprised when I saw how tall Stokesy was in a hotel lobby during pre-season and was thinking …hell, he could do that job ..mebbe
half a season later he has demostrated other qualities that we never knew he had..I give you the drive to recover pride at Killie …however, he does not seem capable of getting on the end of a croiss with his heid , neither does ghoops…so our current stirkers have not shown enough evidence that they can do that job. The management know this so must the guys who scout so well for other positions …maybe they have a view on what a modern striker should be:..along the deck, interplays and wee dinks are the qualities much valued these days..and why not, I love to watch the goals we score like that …
but….(me no buts)… we simply do not score enough of them… we cannot risk ending games only 1 goal ahead..it is too risky and you all know why
we need that alternative option and we need it now ..this window
the game…. in Scotland at least …has not changed all that much
it is a vital component of a winning team
sooo what is the bliddy hold up?
let’s get the priorities right Celts…focus on the prize!!

The Hearts players were said to be happy with the situation as they were receiving wages, but former chairman Leslie Deans, below, is flabbergasted by the SPL’s decision.

THE Scottish Premier League’s decision to charge Hearts over its alleged late payment of players’ salaries has left former Hearts chairman Leslie Deans “flabbergasted”.
Last night Deans received the backing of Hearts striker Kevin Kyle, who said the players had been paid and could not see why the SPL wanted to press ahead with action.
The Tynecastle club has been charged with “failing to behave with the utmost good faith to the SPL” over the payment of players’ salaries for January. Hearts insist they processed payments on the afternoon of Monday 16, the due date, but the SPL say that the terms of their ruling on 4 January were not met, as not all the players got money into their bank accounts on time. Deans said that, when Hearts were clearly doing their best to pay their staff, he could not understand why the SPL should take issue over a matter of a few hours. “I am flabbergasted by that,” he said. “Are they seriously suggesting they would take action against a member club because some payments were a few hours late? Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill.
“If players were being evicted from their homes or their families were starving because they had no money you could see the point. But taking action at this time beggars belief.
“Are the SPL not aware there is an economic crisis? There is a battle going on at Tynecastle to stabilise the finances, and this threatened action is not going to help at all.”
Kyle was one of 14 players who complained to their union, PFA Scotland, after their salaries were late for the third month running. It was that complaint which led to the SPL’s 4 January ruling, but the forward said the issue has been settled as far as the players were concerned.
“Us as the players are happy with the situation,” he told the BBC. “We’ve got our wages and that’s all we were asking for.
“It has been a difficult period, there’s no denying that – 14 of us made a complaint to the PFA to try to find out what was happening because we weren’t getting any answers. Nobody was telling us exactly what was happening. It was all a guessing game.
“I think we got a group call on Friday to say the funds had been secured and we would be paid. The club said what they were going to do and we’ve been paid, so I don’t see any problems with it. As a group, we decided we’ll make this complaint and try to get somebody to find out what is happening. That got processed, the SPL made a statement, the wages arrived and, for me personally and the rest of the lads at the club, that’s the end of the matter. That’s the club assured us that we’ll get our wages on time and they will continue.”
But the governing body remains convinced that it has evidence from Hearts themselves of the club’s failure to comply with the league’s instructions. “The SPL has received confirmation from Heart of Midlothian that the club has failed to comply with this order,” it said in a statement on Tuesday.
The SPL yesterday refused to say what kind of confirmation it had received. Hearts insist they have said nothing in their dealings with the league which would amount to an admission of guilt.
The SPL’s charge will now be ruled upon, at least in the first instance, by a sub-committee of its board. The membership of that sub-committee has yet to be appointed, and while any or all members of the SPL board could sit on it, others who hold no official posts with any member club could also be invited.
The SPL has also yet to decide whether the sub-committee will have the power to rule on the charge, or will only be allowed to advise the board on the course of action it thinks appropriate.
Whether it is the sub-committee or the board which makes the ruling, a wide range of sanctions is available, including fines, transfer bans and points deductions. A senior SPL source insisted yesterday that, despite one report claiming that a points deduction was the most likely outcome, there was no way anyone could know what would be decided by a sub-committee which had not even been appointed, far less heard any evidence.
Even so, staff at Hearts remain perplexed about the apparent hardline stance being taken against them over an alleged few hours’ delay in paying salaries by an organisation which took no action in October and November when payments were weeks late.
Morning CQNer’s.
Just popped-in to ask if there are any, learned Tim’s about who could answer the following question.
It’s healthy to see all of the new recruits being brought in by the manager(hopefully) but, I don’t see any outlay in terms of cash changing hands so, I would like to know….now that we don’t have Seville type players therefore, we don’t pay Seville-type players salaries now then…where does all the money put in by Celtic fans and, it is ONLY the fans who put the money IN, where does it all go ?
I have to stress for the sensitive souls who might even be bothered to reply that, I’m not looking for a ruck! Just an answer.
Thanks in advance.

Stuart Bathgate: Player sale may be only option as Hearts try to fund next wages bill
Published on Thursday 19 January 2012 02:29
THE SPL’s decision to proceed with disciplinary action agaunst Hearts has mystified staff at Tynecastle who know how much effort went into securing the money to pay players their January salaries.
It has also heightened their concerns about what the governing body might do in future months – when, they fear, finding that money will prove a lot harder.
When the players received their December salaries on 4 January, just hours after the SPL had told the club to pay up within a week or face action, it came as no surprise to them. And they certainly did not think it was a sign that club owner Vladimir Romanov was bowing to pressure from the league. The money had come in thanks to Eggert Jonsson’s transfer to Wolves, and they had known for a few days that payment was imminent.
Similarly, when they got their January money on Monday – or at least when Hearts pressed the button to authorise payments on Monday – it was what they had expected. Director Sergejus Fedotovas had told them the funds would be there to pay them on time, and they knew that he had been working to secure those funds since the previous month – in other words before it was known that Jonsson’s move south would raise £200,000.
As Romanov’s placeman at the club Fedotovas is by no means universally liked, but staff appreciate that in this instance he is doing his best in difficult circumstances. Since Romanov announced last autumn that he was putting the club up for sale and would henceforth insist on its paying its own way, Fedotovas has had to work quickly to try to ensure some sort of orderly downscaling. It has not been an easy task, but so far he has carried it out in a reasonably efficient fashion.
But now that the Jonsson money is gone, as are the funds Fedotovas raised last month, keeping order will prove that much harder. Hearts have insisted that there will be no fire sale, that they will not let players go on the cheap, but they did hope for a livelier transfer market during this window than has so far been the case. Manager Paulo Sergio has been preparing for some time to integrate a number of players from the club’s successful under-19 squad into the first team, but so far he has not needed to do so.
Jonsson has gone, and Ryan Stevenson remains a refusenik, having withdrawn his services late last year in protest at the late payment of wages. But everyone else is still there, including Rudi Skacel, who has already been in talks about extending his current contract, which runs out at the end of the month.
After his hat-trick heroics against St Mirren at the weekend, Hearts supporters will be happy for Skacel to stay a little longer. And, with the team back up to an impressive third in the league after winning five of their last six matches and drawing the other, those supporters will hope that the current squad remains more or less intact when the window closes.
But if it does so, it may be at a heavy price. Because without more sales, Hearts will run the risk of falling behind in their payments again, and of again incurring the wrath of the SPL.
To most employees at Hearts, including the players, the payment of salaries on Monday went as normal. The money was released by the club in the afternoon, it cleared into some accounts that evening, and if others had to wait until the morning, well, that was always the case.
When payments have been delayed by weeks, as they were for the previous three months, what was the problem about a few hours? As former chairman Les Deans said last night, receving a draconian punishment for making a slightly late payment is “like being banned for driving for two years if you’re caught doing 31 miles an hour”.
The SPL, however, appear to think it is important to put a marker down now. If Romanov gets away with making payments a few hours late, they reason, he may try to stretch a point next month and delay by a couple of days – then weeks the next time and who knows?
Having issued their instructions on 4 January, they are insisting that Hearts comply with the letter of the law. At worst the club may only have been guilty of a minor, technical breach, but the governing body can use that breach as a test case.
A minor breach may be met with a minor or suspended punishment, conditional on future good behaviour. No points deduction this time, for example, but a punishment along those lines should the alleged offence recur this season.
That, at least, is what Hearts staff fear. The SPL may see the January salaries being processed in the afternoon and deduce that Romanov could have paid them in the morning but for his eagerness to cock a snook at the authorities. The people at Tynecastle see the payments being made and conclude that the hard work by Fedotovas and other employees had paid off. And they know that next time, that hard work may not be enough.
Let’s hope Hector gloriously routed the heathen foe like a latter-day John of Austria at Lepanto.
Mon the HMRC. (thumbsup)
