If you are taken in by the change in who came second, more fool you

After a season where our main central defender went on strike in August, our manager set about working his ticket, our main striker went off message with the manager, before the manager decided it was better to shuffle him off the premises on deadline day, and then the manager walked out on us, we appear to have won the league by the same nine point margin as last season.

We have seen some disruptive seasons in our time (although not recently), but this has to be up there with the 1993-94 season, when we sailed perilously close to administration.  This is what modern Celtic looks like when it is vulnerable.  Not quite imperious, but still a game away from the treble.

Everything else is just background noise.  We are eight-in-a-row champions, double treble winners and that could soon be treble treble winners.  Next season will be nowhere near as disruptive.  We will have a manager who wants to be here and players bursting a gut to do it on the park.

There is a stable and clear vision for the club, experience at delivering sustainable success that seems to be more imperious each passing year and money in the bank  to take us there.  If you are taken in by the change in who came second, more fool you.

It was a treat to watch Karamoko Dembele for 45 minutes yesterday.  He is small, how would he cope against grown men?  Quite well, as it turned out.  He has fantastic ability to change direction and great pace over 5 yards, talents that allows him to get away from opponents.

If he is as good as some hope, our place in the food chain will become evident soon enough, but we will enjoy watching him when he pulls on the hoops.

I got a text on Saturday evening, “7-1 in jeopardy”.  The FA Cup Final was on; this could only mean Man City were threatening to breach the British cup final record win.  62 years and counting.

You forgot in your summary to mention the CEO who placed derisory bids for John McGinn over the best part of 2 months only to place the acceptable offer for the player when he was in the Midlands completing his signing, and Rodgers then having to sign a vastly inferior player in Mulumbu in his place who was sitting at home unemployed.

I am sure you meant to mention this and it just slipped your mind.

I see Tony Pulis is quoted now for Celtic manager. If the choice came down to Pulis or Moyes, I’d rather do it myself…

The events quoted involved people who were at the club, not ones who may have been but weren’t

I should also add that although you state that we will have a new manager in place with players busting a gut, which sounds great in theory, we also have a massive downside of Lawwell still in situ, negotiating the signing of players.

However, if we could get rid of the guy who picked up 3.5 million from the club last season then I would begin to share your optimism.

You do know that Podium Claims have to be seriously scrutinised, by three ex CQNers.

  11. Is this a cunning plan to have Mr Clarke excluded from the Celtic job candidates……………… or does it tee – up accusing headlines Levelled at him that he turned his back on Scotland to take the job at Celtic ( Scoddland’s real auld Enemy? )

    Probably.

  12. Paul 67

Lastly, it is all very well having money in the bank, but unless we are competing for the balance sheet championship then it does nothing to help us improve on the park if the money is not being spent, and going by the last 2 windows and key players not replaced then I don;t see cause for optimism.

  13. not impressed by any of the latest batch of first team coaches being touted by the so called press and bookmakers , i just hope and pray we get this right.

Paul was discussing real problems encountered last season.

If you think that the breakdown in the relationship of board and manager, and the role player by Lawwell wasn’t a factor then you must be completely naive.

Rather than digging your head in the sand, Lawwell should be getting called out constantly to let him know that for a guy who earned 3.5 million last year, his unacceptable performance last summer won’t be tolerated again.

  15. “and money in the bank to take us there”

Let’s hope it’s put to good use. As Toljan and others show; you don’t get much for your millions these days.

I encountered a bitter Bluenose not long after the match who spotted my son’s Celtic scarf and shouted “we’re gonna stop yous next year cause yous are losing hawf your team”. My wee bhoy said we had the cash to replace them and he got some garbage back about us stockpiling it for paying off the “kids wot were fiddled”. I replied that I heard we were stockpiling for backdated league winner bonuses for when Res12 finally sees the titles stipped… the look on his coupon made a gr8 day even better!

In order to provide some balance to many of last weeks unsubstansiated rumours about our (interim) manager regarding his man management style and departures from previous clubs, it appears those who know him a lot better than any on here would relish working with him next season and beyond…

James Forrest has praised Neil Lennon’s record as Celtic interim manager and believes the Scottish champions’ squad would “look forward to working with him” if the Northern Irishman is given the job permanently.

star billing is an EIGHT year old phenomena

Therefore the media consider it to be less worthy of their attention rather than more worthy.

Only an outsider to the Scoddish fitba’ scene would be surprised by this.

  18. TRADITIONALIST88

Lenny has seen us over the line, but isn’t what is required to take us to another level.

I would love to see a coach who is up to date with the way football is now being played, and a general manager for all contractual issues, with Lawwell leaving.

Also, as regards you quoting James Forrest, I have still, in all my years following football, to hear a player saying that they wouldn’t like their current manager to stay in place.

I generally agree, but in order to counter some of the stuff post last week, well worth posting, particularly as it contained quotable sources! ie. James Forrest.

Of course hes not going to come out against a current manager but its easy to say nothing rather than come out and praise someone you dont want to!

By the way, I’d have Lennon as manager before I’d have several of those quoted as being in the running. I’m sure many being quoted are not in the running at all, of course.

SMSM have been working very hard to change the news of Rangers death, in 2012.

In the immediate aftermath of Lord Hodge’s 6 minute hearing the event was reported, for the world to see.

From the moment the spare licence was signed over to Charles Green, SMSM was on a new life mission. It’s taken seven seasons to get the new club by hook and by ‘crook’ to where they are this morning, second best.

SPL reporting is still influenced by that 2012 agenda to make Sevco look like Rangers.

The rest is Celtic fans not understanding that we’ve a head start since 1888, and it will always be like this.

  25. Was told yesterday that Sean Dyche will be the new manager. His buy out clause has been agreed. Announced after Cup Final.

We shall see, only a week or so (hopefully) to wait.

  26. A day after celebrating winning 8 in a row by a not insignificant 9 points and one game away in less that a weeks time for a once in a lifetime opportunity of a treble treble ; the Peter Lawwell agenda still dominates the blog.

This fixation is becoming tedious, disturbing and risable.

No wonder many say we are becoming increasingly entitled.

Celtic will never have success with Lawwell here? What are eight Leagues in a row? What are eight trophies in a row? Some people just hate the reality that Celtic are a business. If we didn’t run ourselves as a business, we wouldn’t last long as a club.
