Indisputable mood to bring in the New

1316

If you were lucky enough, like me, to enjoy a long Christmas holiday, I hope you had a good one.  I’m sure few of us are delighted to be back at it today but there’s an indisputable mood on the blog for bringing in the New.  A fresh start is needed and fortunately we’re at the start of the transfer window.

For Celtic most attention will be directed towards recruiting a striker who is capable of doing the business in the Champions League, not to overlook the important point of doing the business in Champions League qualifiers.  20-year-old Icelandic striker, Holmbert Fridjobsson, finally joins the club this month but although we’ll hopefully see plenty of the player this month he is surely considered ‘one for the future’.

One prolific striker does not solve all of Celtic’s issues, however.  The club remains acutely dependent on Kris Commons’ creativity (as well as goal scoring), which will become increasingly less-effective as opponents setup to inhibit him.  He needs a foil.

Since the annihilation in Barcelona Celtic have offered greater protection from midfield but with both full backs encouraged to overlap the midfield anchor role, previously occupied by Wanyama, becomes crucially important.  It also offers support to the strategy of allowing Commons a free role as an attacking midfielder.

Over the break, Archie MacPherson, Scotland’s greatest ever broadcaster, wrote an article for Celtic Quick News comparing two of Scotland’s greatest ever managers.  These debates are, of course, subjective, but the article provides a few objective points for consideration.  Archie has a totally unique range to deal with this question and is in no doubt as to who the master was.  Look out for the article next week, you’ll enjoy it – no guessing now.

  1. AT has very limited brain recall me thinks, if he reckons Celtic supporters are some of the worst out there.

His team for example, the most arrested for football related incidents last season, riots when Sunderland beat them last season.

We have had a few banners that offended a few huns, a few smoke bombs and flares that are evident at nearly every ground in the country weekly, a few broken seats that happen weekly as well, not saying we don’t have any problems, but let’s not make them out to be worse than they are.

The media do a good enough job of bigging them up without us helping them.

Response from the ASA to a complaint about their same club error

    Thank you for your email.

I have raised your concerns with our Chief Executive, Guy Parker. He has asked me to respond on his behalf.

We appreciate that you disagree with the ASA ruling involving Rangers Football Club. However, the decision is final. The original adjudication was subject to Independent Review – following a request by the complainants in the case – and ASA Council will not be changing its decision.

When the Independent Reviewer presented the case back to Council they carefully considered all the relevant points under the Advertising Code and amended their wording but not their decision.

Our published ruling puts on the public record our findings in this case. This explains clearly the nature and scope of our investigation including our enquiries to SFA and UEFA.

We will not be entering into further correspondence in this matter.

    Kind regards

    Matt Wilson

I’m happy that Hearts will be playing them. Next I want Kilmarnock or the Buddies to be in with them. Most St Mirren fans I know prefer govan to parkhead.

I’ll settle for St Mirren as it will do Neganon2’s heid in.

The player for me who made the difference against the buddies was Charlie Mulgrew I thought up to now he was just a jack of all trades utility player. However, yesterday opened my eyes to how valuable player he is for us.He made others around him play including Commons. H.H.

Then Kris obviously decided I didn’t need £ 250 bucks and added to his impressive goal tally. Mind the auld joke….” He is so unlucky if he was one of Dolly Partons triplets he’d be the wan oan the bottle?”………. Meet he……

Can you remember the LAST one they were given against them…….(he must have also FORGOT what team was sevco…..)

  16. Talking about Millwall -in the late 80’s I used to travel down from Oban to Celtic games with this guy who was a fanatical Glaswegian tim. He was good craic and we’d sometimes meet up in the pub with his brothers who were all good tims.

He got into tow with a London lass and he went down there to live and married her.

I visited him a couple of times and was very surprised to find that he had started going to Millwall games home and away – with their band of hardcore hooligans!

He even had a Celtic scarf with a union jack on it! True.

    Very dissappointing.

Liquidated? Not so sure mate. I think there has been a steadying of the ship, even if only a little, since Wallace was appointed. If nothing else, I think he realises the budget needs straightened out, and, I think, his appointment will see some investment come in. Not for players but to balance the books and pay the bills in the immediate future.

On the playing side, they’ll probably have just enough to win the second tier next season. It’ll take an investment on the playing side of £30 m or so before they get near to us in the top division. In fact, decent signings from us now and in the summer to get back into the CL, and they’ll need a helluva lot more than even £30 million.

Quality purchases by Celtic and they’ll be destined to chasing us for a long time to come. What I hope we don’t do us cash in on:

    Foster

    Lustig

    Van dijk

    Mulgrew

    Matthews

    Commons

That’s the core of a vg side if added to with quality purchases over the next 4 windows.

Yes, it’s a long shot. Thing is, if those players above had been joined by say, a Finboggasson, Fletcher, and say perhaps Craig Mackail Smith ( I’m only throwing in examples, choose your own), instead of Pukki, Balde and Boerritger, perhaps we’d still be in Europe and a further £15 m to £ 20 m realised? All ifs and buts I know, but I think that’s the point the perceived board bashers on here have been making.

  22. Snake Plissken on

    2M for Sami?

If that is for real then there will be only one outcome providing the player is willing.

  23. t n t

    Understood & agreed.

Just think F F is the most likely to go. Wonder who we might have in mind to replace?

  24. The other point is, if we are truly a selling club these days, and I can understand the boards viewpoint on that, then we will get top dollar, Wanyama style, if we are strutting our stuff in the CL. That way, it’s easier to regenerate the team and maintain an asset filled squad.

I truly think the qualifiers this season will determine the next few seasons for us. Failure to make Europe could set us back so far it’s a frightening thought.

  25. justafan-agree mate, i don’t understand this one.Sign him up ,if he has a good World Cup and wants to move on,good luck to the guy and we will get a good fee for him.I hope he stays.

Despite what the msm / sfa / comedy show ssb tell us……they are deed, gone, finished (liquidated) ……. and this club their moronic hoardes have latched onto are on the way out also…….there is not one member of that bored who gives a shoite about sevco……they are all the puppets of the investors lurking in the background…..THE ANONYMOUS ONES, and THEY are just waiting for the right moment to ‘descend on the carcass’, rip every shred of ‘meat’ (dosh) from it (assets), and move onto their next little ‘Venture Capital’ project…….this is what they do……the last thing they will do is hang around until the shares are at the price they paid for them (1p)….(still can’t believe the msm etc were taken in by the £22m myth)

The intriguing element is whether or not the investors can get away with this plan of theirs, since BDO / UTT / COURTS are also in the ‘assets race’ ………. Who owns them, and who can seize them for the creditors.?……..these are the 2 important questions ……. forget about the msm……they’re in the camp of saying ANYTHING to save their jobs…….the sfa are in the camp of maximising revenue……..and the COURTS will be adjudicating on all the investigations going on in the background……. and the Celtic Board, in the full knowledge of what’s going on in the background, are quietly and effectively concentrating on developing / protecting Celtic in the background, as is their job…..

It’s all coming to a head, now that sevco are rapidly running out of money altogether…..and ming won’t make the same mistake again…….he was simply sniffing around to see if there was any chance of getting any of his £20m back….(although MIM already gave him £18m of it back, before ‘the crash’…..

Basically, the ‘sting’ is approaching a critical / intriguing stage, and the bhun hoardes are finally realising this……

  27. 67 Heaven

Well, on that happy note, I’ll hope you are correct and go and have sweet dreams of their impending implosion.
