Indisputable mood to bring in the New

1316

If you were lucky enough, like me, to enjoy a long Christmas holiday, I hope you had a good one.  I’m sure few of us are delighted to be back at it today but there’s an indisputable mood on the blog for bringing in the New.  A fresh start is needed and fortunately we’re at the start of the transfer window.

For Celtic most attention will be directed towards recruiting a striker who is capable of doing the business in the Champions League, not to overlook the important point of doing the business in Champions League qualifiers.  20-year-old Icelandic striker, Holmbert Fridjobsson, finally joins the club this month but although we’ll hopefully see plenty of the player this month he is surely considered ‘one for the future’.

One prolific striker does not solve all of Celtic’s issues, however.  The club remains acutely dependent on Kris Commons’ creativity (as well as goal scoring), which will become increasingly less-effective as opponents setup to inhibit him.  He needs a foil.

Since the annihilation in Barcelona Celtic have offered greater protection from midfield but with both full backs encouraged to overlap the midfield anchor role, previously occupied by Wanyama, becomes crucially important.  It also offers support to the strategy of allowing Commons a free role as an attacking midfielder.

Over the break, Archie MacPherson, Scotland’s greatest ever broadcaster, wrote an article for Celtic Quick News comparing two of Scotland’s greatest ever managers.  These debates are, of course, subjective, but the article provides a few objective points for consideration.  Archie has a totally unique range to deal with this question and is in no doubt as to who the master was.  Look out for the article next week, you’ll enjoy it – no guessing now.

  1. Nine of us turned up to play golf on Friday. One went home because it was so incredibly windy. The other eight managed ten holes before accepting defeat. Normally, there are around thirty of us. Does anyone think the small turnout was because golf is becoming boring?

Yup it is. He did a lot to expose the ineffectiveness of the SFA and I regret his moving away from that issue.

I think his latest blog was unprofessional as I described it in terms of where it placed focus on the wider Celtic support and not on the issue of abusivess attitudes and I was surprised at it.

However if it is not his swan song and he goes back to what he was good at in terms of focus I would not hold his grande faux pas against him.

There will be a Race Night held on 28th February in the CSA Social Club, London Road in aid of Sean’s Trust, which was set up in memory of St. John Doyle and Linda Crokers’ Bhoy who was still born.

There will be 9 Races, which can be sponsored at a cost of £40 a Race. I am pleased to inform you CQN have sponsored a Race.

The CSA have kindly waived the fee they normally charge for hiring the Club, very generous of them.

Tickets cost £5 each for which there will be a finger buffet provided and a bit of jigging on the night after the Races. Tickets are limited as the room only holds 150, 10 tickets are already gone to the Family.

Horses and Jockeys can be bought for £2 each.

Lastly, donations of bottles are being asked for each race.

You have already been generous to the Ryan’s and to Sean’s Trust, if you can help further it would be great.

For those who are friends with me on FB you will find the details from Linda Croker or if you are not you can contact me at lennybhoycfc@gmail.com. The night is being coordinated by Kevin Lalley, a close friend of George, I can put you in touch with him if you e-mail me. Kevin has in the past posted but hasn’t for a while.

Thanks in advance for your continued support.

    Keep the Faith!

  15. Welcome back CQN! Really missed it yesterday during the match. Stat of the day: “DWP has 3250 investigating benefit fraud of £1.2bn. HMRC has 300 staff investigating tax evasion of £120bn.”

Apparently according to some on the internet Sevco are going to be in bother because of the return of Craigy Craigy Whyte.

It’s allegedly going to appear in the papers this week, possibly tomorrow.

Now I’m not one for idle gossip but apparently the story is coming from Sevcovians themselves.

Two factors contributing to our high scoring performance on Saturday:

    1. Adam Matthews taking on and beating defenders at the first goal

    2. Great run and movement by James Forrest to set up the fourth. He also took time to pick out KC rather than just boot it across goals.

It was a joy to see compared to the sideways/backward passing when faced with a defender to beat, and general lack of off the ball movement evident in our recent 1-0 games.

Why was Lustig there, his wife had posted Christmas pics of them in Sweden an they were then heading on hols seeing as he is out for 4 mths. Are we sure it was him?

  19. Eusebio..RIP

A wonderful player to watch, but one of the Lisbon Lions told me, he was the dirtiest, sneakiest player he had ever faced

  20. Enjoy yesterday’s goal-rush and i must say the scores were all beauties. Great start to the year and hope the lads enjoy the warm weather break in Turkey, presumably the trip is to a part of the country that enjoys a benign climate at this time of year.

Let’s hope the team treats these games as friendlies and don’t return with a stack of injuries as happened after the preseason trip to Germany. Don’t expect too much to happen in the Jan window but still hopeful of some good signings.

Well the rumours are flying about a (AHEM) penalty for a SECOND administration event because as we all keep on getting told it is the same club.

What a position to be in for the SFA, give them a lighter punishment for a first time and admit they’ve all been at it with the same club fantasy delusion OR take away 25 points although I think there’s a new rule that says take a a third of last season’s points (whatever that was as I have no idea).

If it is true it will keep us entertained while we’re off in Turkey in meaningless friendly action.

Thought yesterday was a great game. St. Mirren played well in first half without really threatening, then when we had 2 great efforts come back off inside of post, I was thinking is it going to be “one of those days”. However there is a bit of steel in our lads now that hasn’t been there in recent years and the second half was a pure joy to watch.
