It takes more than just ability to be a Celtic player

294

Erik Sviatchenko made an instant impact on Celtic’s defensive performances when he arrived in January 2016, six months after the departure of Virgil van Dijk and Jason Denayer.  He was our top central defender for the remainder of Ronny Deila’s tenure and for the first six months of Brendan Rodgers’ time.

Then came a game at Ibrox on Hogmanay 2016.  Celtic were rattled for much of the opening period and Erik looked most out of sorts.  His assured touch was replaced by a need to get rid of the ball early.  Fortunately things turned out well that day but I wondered if the manager’s faith in the defender was shaken.  Some of us doubted his temperament.

The season just ended started badly for Erik as he picked up an injury early in the Champions League qualification rounds.  A loan for former club, Midtjylland, confirmed where he was in Brendan’s plans.

Midtjylland returned most of the money we paid for him and the player is in an environment, and at a level, which suits him.  It takes a lot to be a Celtic player, more than just ability or experience elsewhere.

What a statement from deidco/Sevco yesterday ffs have these crooks got a cheek or what.

For years we have put up with their cheating on an industrial scale.

I hope the SFA are going to take Mr GLIB to task over his comments . But I doubt it, shoitebags.

    MIKE IN TORONTO @ 12:21,

Thank you, coming from a poster who is so knowledgable and sharp, and a man that shows such Grace that’s something…

Now what gave that other thing away, the typos? The grammar? I know one of us would be insulted by the comparison:)))

At the end of his reign PL’s tenure and legacy will be assessed (personally I hope that’s some way off) and I guess fholk will question his involvement in the Footballing side during the John Park era, his record at Lennoxtown in the round and his risk/benefit investment planning in the squad – I think a fair minded person would say, if he didn’t get everything right all the time, it came together pretty well in the end.

Guess I got overly irked by DCK’s statement, it’s blatant nonsense of course, so let’s call his bluff….

…The credibility of Scottish Football in the minds of supporters and sponsors is at stake and urgent action is required. Transparency will be key to recovering the confidence of key stakeholders in Scottish football and this cannot be achieved if the SFA and/or the SPFL conduct internal investigations.

The SPFL and SFA must now appoint independent investigators…

Now I tend to agree with that bit, the scope of a joint investigation should be a wide ranging and take the form of a truth and reconciliation enquiry. Lets start with Hugh Adams allegations (dating from the mid-ninties) amd go through all conflicts of interest and non disclosure – to the present day…

With regard to the transparency… we can start that straight away.

My understanding is that Sevco Rangers are blocking the publishing of the 5 way agreement. DCK could lift that, what a victory for disclosure and transparency that would be…

Completely unintentional typo, with B and V being next to each other on the keyboard……

I’m an advocate for posters here having the ability to edit, or delete their posts, due to the large numbers of typo’s I inflict on everyone…especially when doing updates during a game ?

I also believe that self-moderation would work very well on this particular blog.

I try to proof read my posts, to limit how stupid I appear but still miss some. Last nights “Jabascript” made me smile, so I left it where it was ?

Don’t think Edouard and McGinn signing in the next week would be a surprise, the Dutch guy looks interesting. Looked good v PSV last season when his closing down and winning the ball back led directly to two goals. If there was any truth in us looking at him, or someone similar, then the plan may be to send Kouassi out on loan for a season. Aitchison to DU on loan would be a good move and give the bhoy some experience.

  22. Gary67

Koassi is a puzzle for me… I think he has looked good when he has played but not had many games. I was not a fan of putting players out on loan but Brendan does use the loan system well, Ajer being the latest example. Don’t know the Dutch lad but sounds a good move.

  23. yorkbhoy on 30th May 2018 11:20 am

Kouassi’s problem is Brown has been fit and consistent for two seasons and when fit needs to play rather than have rests. Kouassi could do with a season somewhere like Hibs under Lenny then return ready to play more. When he’s played he’s looked good with plenty on potential but appearances have been too rare to allow him to develop,
