Celtic hunt in packs.

Leipzig possessed tremendous ability to switch the ball across the field with speed and accuracy.  Celtic hunted the ball down, packs of players swooped on the man in possession, then often switched to the other side of the field, before swooping again.

This took oceans of energy, but most of all speed.  How many times did you notice Callum McGregor or Ryan Christie scarper 30 yards at full pace, just to add defensive cover?  This is why Leipzig created so few good chances until the latter stages of the game.

Leipzig can do nothing about Forrest.

All they could do with James Forrest is get close enough to concede a foul and receive a caution.  The often showed James inside, but he can drop a shoulder and escape with the ball so well he was literally unplayable.

Tiredness before equaliser.

Before Leipzig’s equaliser the visitors had three substitutes on the field, whereas, Celtic persevered with the starting 11.  Rogic, Sinclair, Forrest and especially Lustig were tired.  I was desperate for Brendan to put fresh legs on.  Forrest was still capable of tormenting the Leipzig defence, so I was surprised when he was replaced with 7 minutes left, but Sinclair and Rogic both made significant contributions in the final minutes.

Peter, get ready for the summer.

We know the script when it comes to French under-21 internationals.  Leipzig could not get the ball off Odsonne Edouard inside the box.  Could. Not. Get. The. Ball. Off. Him.  There will be a clamour for this boy’s signature.  I know it’s the last thing we want and how difficult it is to continue to go to the well and get the same results, but this one is in the post.

McGregor, Christie, Sinclair, Forrest and Rogic.

Yesterday I wrote that I wanted these five tested at this level.  They determined Celtic’s entire structure and pace of play.  The result was that we played our best football in Europe for a long time.  They have already done the same to our domestic form.  We will need Scott Brown and Olivier Ntcham this season, but we cannot this midfield just to accommodate either of them.

Life’s great experiences!

The moment the stadium fell dark, bar spotlights on the centre circle, took my breath away.  For the next five minutes, I was mesmerised.  If life’s great experiences are truly priceless, the new light system at Celtic Park was worth every penny, whatever the cost.  60,000 people stood in awe, and there are a good few hardened cynics among them.

You and me have had some great times in recent years.

  3. I use CelticTV and have done since 1999. I usually defend it when I see people slagging it on here.

It’s a great service, a way for me to contribute to the club while living in Canada. This morning I thought I’d watch the game again. However there is huge advertising banner across the bottom of the screen. It is obscuring so much of the passing that the game is unwatchable. Replays are mostly useless. Kieran’s goal replays are unwatchable, Craig Gordon’s injury in completely obscured, can’t tell from the replays what actually happened.

    Poor show CelticTV.

Have to agree with Brendan, Celtic’s finest European performance on his watch. Hope the results go our way next time out. What a battle that was.

Good news re Olivier, great signing, on his game one of the best midfielders ever to set foot on hallowed ground.

Not sure if your comment is serious (there was no smiley face), or if you are playing Statler to someone else’s Waldorf today.

  6. A real joy last night, although the last 10 minutes were only a joy after the final whistle.

K.T. Callum, Ryan and Eddy were all outstanding, in my opinion.

As H.Jim as already touched in, if the 3 teams in our group end up with 12 points, then the goal difference against Rosenborg is not counted, so any win against Rosenborg for us is fine.

If Leipzig beat Salzburg then really we want them to thump Salzburg.

Ideally though a Celtic win and a Salzburg win in Round 5 leaves it in our hands for the final game.

    Hail Hail

  7. Just wondering, when Brooony and Ntcham are fully fit, where are they going to play. ???

Can they adapt to our “new ” style or do we confine them to the bench???

    Great performance last night

So, Sevco have accused Collum of an “error of judgment”. But they appealed the yellow card on the basis of “mistaken identity”?

Have they actually named the mystery “other player”? I’m guessing not.

The Strong Rangers Association need to impose a heavy fine on these clowns for a clearly frivolous and invalid appeal. But then the clue is in the name.

The mechanic was very quick in his diagnosis.

He said ” You have a bald patch, the spare is oversized and you are unbalanced.”

“Cheers” I said ” but enough about me?

Met my mate for a coupla pints after work today, in Crystal Palace, Jamaica Street. Place full of Leipzig fans. Boy, do the Germans love Celtic and our stadium and support. Every German saying that Celtic support are best in Europe. All saying the best atmosphere they have experienced was last night in Paradise. I had to agree with them. ?

Last night was a cracking game of football, two very good teams going toe to toe with each other. It was relentless.

Ryan Christie has something that can’t be coached – desire. And he has it in bucket loads. That lung bursting run deep into injury time summed his performance up.

It’d be great to get out of this group and to have the carrot of European football in the new year to offer January signing targets.

    Unless Efe provides some excitement.

Why do the beeb keep reporting that Sevco failed to have Candeais’ red card overturned? They weren’t appealing a red card, they were appealing a yellow card for – ahem – “mistaken identity”.
