NEW signing Saidy Janko has been urged by Ronny Deila to show he can become the club’s first choice right-back this season.

The Swiss teenager signed a four-year deal yesterday to join the Hoops from Manchester United.

Janko will have to battle Mikael Lustig, Adam Matthews and Darnell Fisher for a place in the starting line-up, but Deila admits the opportunity is there for 19-year-old to state his case.

The Norwegian said: “He’s a young player who we want to develop. He’s a very talented full-back and I’m really looking forward to seeing him in training.

“He has to show himself in training and the road is there if he shows he’s the best He can play winger as well, but his main position is full-back.”

Janko was signed by Davie Moyes for United on the final day of the 2013 August window for a fee of £700,000 from FC Zurich. He played in the first-half of the sensational 4-0 League Cup loss to MK Dons before being substituted by Louis van Gaal.

He spent the second half of last season at Bolton, making 10 appearances for Neil Lennon’s men.

Meanwhile, Deila played down knocks suffered by Stuart Armstrong and Mikael Lustig during the 2-0 friendly win over Dutch outfit Den Bosch at St Mirren’s Paisley ground last night.

He added: “Armstrong has a dead leg, so that will be okay.Lustig hadn’t played for four months and his groins were a little bit tight. There is nothing to worry about.”
