Johansen and Denayer step up

668

Congratulations to Scotland’s Player of the Year, Stefan Johansen, and Young Player of the Year, Jason Denayer.  It’s fair to say Stefan had an underwhelming first eight months in Scotland, but the turnaround since October has been stark.

It was during our home defeat to Hamilton Accies that month that I noticed a change in his game.  He took on more responsibility and pressed incessantly for the equaliser.  The next game, away to Ross County, was a Johansen virtuoso performance and he’s never looked back.

There was a similar ‘So what?’ reaction to Jason’s early season performances.  Performances were far more like Efe Ambrose than Virgil van Dijk, but he grew increasingly assured as the season progressed.  His international debut two months ago was merited.

Manchester City want him back for next season, where he’ll be second reserve for central defence.  On the upside, he’ll get six games, some of which will be in the cups against lower league opponents.  If City and the player want to map a route to the first team, this is a step in the process, but it’s not without its risks to the player.

Maybe instead of all this ‘huns’ ‘deidco’ ‘sevco’ stuff, we should just call them ‘The New Rangers‘, I mean what could they possibly find offensive about that? Plus its accurate and perfectly legitimate, unlike them.

    Absolutely agree.

Hannan declares that a sevco in the SPFL will make it more competitive …like the last time they were competing with Celtic you mean Hannan. You know those years that will eventually be referred to as the Asterisk Years?

A competitive league is never so unless it has integrity, an integrity that all clubs respect and buy into. The only thing sevco and their hordes buy into is how can we distort everything to neutralize all opposition but especially, Celtic.

Hannan’s piece is a timely reminder of precisely why footballisfixed have to go beyond Scotland’s media outlets to get their piece into the real world.

Denayer, the lad is contractually obliged to go back to City at end of the season long loan. Fact. He is not leaving. He had completed his contractual agreement between the two clubs. If Celtic can negotiate another season. Great. I see no benefit for the lad or City to be sitting on a bench. So I’d be hopefull we can get another season loan deal done.

  23. Revisionist Realism

Just in case Martin Hannan was serious and the article was not an Aw Naw special

    Revisionism:

The gallant SDM made deidco into a colossus of European Football.

    Realism:

David Murray, bought deidco with someone else’s money, speculated on it with someone else’s money, over-extended the whole shebang while at the same syphoning off 6 million in EBTs for himself, before, just as the Inland Revenue were closing in on his dirty dealings, having to give it away to another greedy, bankruptcy specialist.

    Revsionism:

    Sevco have been punished enough.

    Realism:

Sevco have never been punished. McMoist at Sevco had a signing ban imposed but he was given 4 months notice of it starting and was able to sign all the players he wanted. Deidco were fined by Nimmo-Smith, but since they are and were at the time a liquidated company who sunk with over 135 million in unpaid debts, the fine was meaningless.

    Revisionism:

Scotland needs a sevco in the top league to make it competitive.

    Realism:

In their short history, Sevco have colluded with the SFA & the SPL to circumvent rules that were applied to all other clubs in similar circumstances, and have sworn publicly revenge on all clubs opposed their attempt at rule breaking on such a grand scale. Deidco collapsed into a vortex of debt and shame after it spent years ensuring that the SPL was competitive in name only. Sevco and corruption are synonymous, and thus a league with them in it is not competitive.

Accepting the credentials from Vale Bhoy and Tontine Tim, on behalf of Hannan, one may assume that he was given a brief by his editor to write up a piece on why a successful Celtic is bad for football; and while he was at it, a joining piece on how it was vital for football, and his job, to anoint the King.

SNP council leader hits out at “bigoted insults” after he indicated he felt Rangers were a new club

An SNP council leader has hit out at what he claimed were “bigoted insults” after he indicated that he felt Rangers were a new club.

Christopher McEleny, leader of Inverclyde Council came under fire from Rangers fans after he announced on Twitter that Morton had become “the second most successful team in Scottish league football with only Celtic having won more league titles than us”.

He was celebrating Morton being crowned Scottish League One champions as they recorded a 3-1 victory over Peterhead.

When challenged that Rangers had won more, he responded: “Only won two.”

He later said to one fan: “Not taking anything away from you, mate you’ve did well to get to the Championship in your first two season.”

The row comes after football supporters had launched a campaign calling for Brendan O’Hara to stand down as the SNP’s candidate for Argyll and Bute after using the word ‘h**’ about Rangers fans on a Celtic forum.

Morton’s title win means the Greenock side have won ten championships across the Scottish divisions. They have never been champions in the top tier of Scottish football.

The comments provoked a fresh row over claims the Rangers are now a totally different club after the oldco’s liquidation in 2012.

One tweeter said McEleny was “the latest SNP figure to have a pop at Rangers”.

Another said: “What a detestable person. You sure know how to make voters hate the SNP.”

When the council leader was asked why he was deleting tweets, he responded: “Just the ones that have attracted bigoted insults at me.”

The accusation was denied by Rangers fans who challenged him over his remarks.

Rangers fans group Vanguard Bears has criticised the SNP over the weekend for taking no action over Mr O’Hara’s use of the word ‘h**’ in 2007 and 2008.

The SNP said Mr O’Hara apologised for any offence caused by the use of the word but had no intention of stepping down.

Vanguard Bears said: “Still no action from the SNP – a clear endorsement of bigotry from Scotland’s so-called anti sectarian party.”

More than 2700 have supported an online petition which calls on SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon to take action over Mr O’Hara.

It was previously revealed that a campaign supported by the Rangers fans board has already been lobbying the First Minister to make the use of the word ‘h**’ illegal following the online abuse of pop singer Amy Macdonald.

The campaigners say ‘h**’ is a term of “religious hatred, a derogatory and sectarian term for a Protestant”.

The campaigners say those using the phrase should be treated no differently than those who use offensive words to describe Catholics.
