Johansen becomes second Celtic addition

818

I’ve seen nothing of Stefan Johansen but I’m delighted we have signed a central midfield player.  Deficiencies up front are glaring, especially in the Premiership, but in Europe, the critical area is central mid, where we need to control more than we did this season.

Central midfield protects your defence and provides the foundations strikers stand on, it has been an important area for Celtic to strengthen since losing our top man last summer.

Conversely, Scott Brown is playing his best football since joining Celtic in 2007 but, as his European adventures were nullified by disciplinary action, the gap was unbridgeable.  Honourable mentions should go to Charlie Mulgrew, Beram Kayal and Joe Ledley, but in the case of Charlie and Joe, they were asked to play secondary, or tertiary roles, while Beram was promoted from well down the pecking order to a Champions League starter.

Please observe the usual caveats when a new player arrives.  New club, new city, new tactics, team mates, match officials and game atmosphere, Stefan has a lot to assimilate in the coming weeks.  It took six months for Victor to settle and at least as long before Mikael, Scott and Joe looked their best.

For Stefan and Holmbert Fridjonsson the primary objective of the next six months is to prepare for Champions League qualifiers, closely followed by a Scottish Cup tie against Aberdeen in three weeks.

Welcome to Celtic, Stefan.  You have a fantastic opportunity ahead.

I remember an incident at Ipox when we were refused a blatent penalty when down 1-0; thems took the bye kick and ran up the park whilst we were still protesting. Grieg scored for 2-0. Sean Fallon came on to the park to tell Roy Aitken etc to get on with it after we refused to restart the game.

Yes someone is scoring. It’s the fact that the players we’ve signed who are meant to be scoring, but aren’t, that is the issue.

Could you run that by me again please?

  4. Never heed them.

Half way through transfer window and still no sign of NL’s much desired physically dominating line leader.

Funnily enough I was just reading this, in connection with another matter

‘In the past five and a half years, four eagles, a red kite and seven buzzards have been shot, poisoned or trapped on sporting estates in the Angus glens.’

    So maybe not so bonny.

Apparently these things even themselves up. Roy Aitken got a throw in once.

I have had people who supported Rangers tel me this in a pub who weren;t even born in 1989. I am amazed that in almost 130 years of their existence they got one decision against them where the referee made an honest mistake when playing Celtic.

I reckon we got at least 10 a season against us and many more when games were not live on TV.

Ok mate it must be me then, as I said earlier when I look at the league table all I see is good, when it hear or see bad about my team, it comes from people posting stuff from the DR, sais it all really.

  9. There is a plane load of RIFC 2012 shareholders on a plane right now – they have just been told to fasten their seat belts and prepare themselves for decent…could be a hard landing. Shares dropped again today…oh dear..

Apologies I was short with you there.

Yep the league table makes great reading and the fact that we’re +33 in the goal difference column is an indication that someone is scoring goals.

My point is, however, that many of those goals aren’t coming from the players who were originally signed to score them eg our ‘strikers’.

I’m delighted that Johanson has signed but if we’re looking forward to next season’s CL qualifiers then another, preferably prolific, goal scorer is essential.

No amount of +s in the GD column can mask that.

No appols. Needed, my only point is to give them time to get bedded in and then let’s see what happens, CL is 6 months away, I would say after Jan Lenny will start blending them in, one way or another.
