Johansen becomes second Celtic addition

818

I’ve seen nothing of Stefan Johansen but I’m delighted we have signed a central midfield player.  Deficiencies up front are glaring, especially in the Premiership, but in Europe, the critical area is central mid, where we need to control more than we did this season.

Central midfield protects your defence and provides the foundations strikers stand on, it has been an important area for Celtic to strengthen since losing our top man last summer.

Conversely, Scott Brown is playing his best football since joining Celtic in 2007 but, as his European adventures were nullified by disciplinary action, the gap was unbridgeable.  Honourable mentions should go to Charlie Mulgrew, Beram Kayal and Joe Ledley, but in the case of Charlie and Joe, they were asked to play secondary, or tertiary roles, while Beram was promoted from well down the pecking order to a Champions League starter.

Please observe the usual caveats when a new player arrives.  New club, new city, new tactics, team mates, match officials and game atmosphere, Stefan has a lot to assimilate in the coming weeks.  It took six months for Victor to settle and at least as long before Mikael, Scott and Joe looked their best.

For Stefan and Holmbert Fridjonsson the primary objective of the next six months is to prepare for Champions League qualifiers, closely followed by a Scottish Cup tie against Aberdeen in three weeks.

Welcome to Celtic, Stefan.  You have a fantastic opportunity ahead.

  1. On the English article,

Be prepared for an evening up, they’re both as bad as each other, article soon.

Recall Juninho EBT was equal to all their EBTs. Amsterdam “riot” comparable to Manchester etc.

I don’t believe English to be trustworthy nor capable of a Damascene revelation, so more to come I would have thought.

    Fans’ site probe is dropped

    Published on 16 January 2014

DETECTIVES have dropped a probe into comments and images posted on a Rangers’ fans’ site because of ”insufficient evidence”.

Police were investigating the website of the Vanguard Bears, who sponsor Ibrox first team player Robbie Crawford.

The website contains photos of prominent public figures, some dead, with crosses superimposed on to the images.

The photos included one of the late Paul McBride QC and another of lawyer Paul McConville, who died in November.

Police Scotland said officers carried out an investigation, but would not proceed with criminal charges.

Rangers previously confirmed the club was “investigating”.

  10. Can I just get clarification on a point from that article above, is it the club who aren’t investigating the fans website or the holding company who aren’t investigating?

  11. I see the forecast is for heavy rain throughout the match on Saturday. A shame if it remains that way as I was confidently expecting a big crowd for this top of the table clash against a team many Celtic fans have grown to dislike. Furthermore, I feel I haven`t seen my team for ages and if others are like myself, then well (!) over 50,000 would be expected.

I hope we can generate our own noise without the orchestration of the much missed Green Brigade. They (GB) might decide that although they can no longer connect with the Club, they can connect with the rest of the support and come back as a new entity (!) who bring back the thunder.

It is the detectives who aren`t investigating. I think the holding Company are currently investigating the Club`s finances 0:-)

  13. LiviBhoy - God bless wee Oscar on

I am amzaed to read that Celtic have 50 professional players on their books and not one player in the first team who can score goals regulalry.

Players kicking a ball about everyday in training and honing their skills and techniques as a proffessional and not one of them can put the ball in the net 3 games on the trot?

Thank the lord we have a winger in Kris Commons who has scored this season because if we relied on the strikers we would seriously be making heavy work of this league.

Hopefully a striker will arrive this week if not then please give Balde a chance. He deserves at least a start to see what he can do. Balde reminds me of a young raw Pierre. He needs nurtured and coached but at the present moment I can’t see why he is not getting a game. Stokes has not been prolific this season with I believe 6 goals in 20 competitive first team starts. He is 3 goals ahead of Virgil! Balde to start on Saturday please Mr Lennon. Let’s see what this lad can do.

  14. Tom English shocker.

What next MSM admission that they died?

Nah, probably not more likely a full blown expose in this EU investigation crap!

Watch this space for the balancing story.

  15. An off the cuff appraisal of our players. I have omitted Stefan and Fin for the moment.

    No worries:

    Lustig Ambrose van Djik Izaguirre

    Brown, Biton,Commons,

    Reliable:

    Ledley, ,Mulgrew,Matthews.

    Hopeful:

    Forrest,Pukki, Balde,Watt,Atajic,Henderson.

    Unlikely: Boerigter, Stokes.

  16. Maybe Mr Wallace just might get through to all supporters and apologists for the Ibrox club that sooner, or, later, an organisation, or , an individual, must live within their means and that there is no such thing as the tooth fairy.

Anyone can run on debt, year after year, however eventually it catches up and strangles you – the old saying that you can run, but you can’t hide is illustrated perfectly in this Ibrox farce.

It has been pass the poison parcel with the Ibrox brand over recent years – Murray to Whyte when the going gets tough and the bank starts playing hardball with MIH and Rangers….Whyte to Green, via Duff & Phelpps, and Administration and now Green and his merry band, latest being Richard Hughes, selling off the ‘penny shares’ that they gave to themselves for vast profits.

What do we hear in response? Usually “look at our crowds” and until recently “we are debt free”. Well anyone can be debt free if they ‘walk away’ from their creditors, but the ‘smell’ stays around a long long time; as for the ‘big’ crowds, well it is all they have to hold on to, but is it enough to save the new club going ‘belly-up’

And what do some of their fans do? – rally round, raise as much money as they can in order to save their new club going the way of the old – NO – they indulge in some jealous fantasies about Celtic getting favourable deals from councils, health boards and banks. They would have us believe that all these organisations conspired with Celtic to produce one dodgy deal after another – it is pathetic.

Let me tell you – when you run your business in a proper manner and build up trust, you are able to get top class deals for your company – it’s called doing good business and, more to the point, you have the available capital and reserves AND credible business plans to take full advantage when these deals appear.

It has taken the World economy six years to start some kind of recovery from the global MELTDOWN and yet the Ibrox fans and their fellow travellers believed Green and Co that they said would be back listening to Zadoc The Priest in little over three years after their DOWNFALL.

Wonder what will be the sales pitch this year when season ticket sales time comes around – we all know that the fans will be the fall guys, but who will be the conman in the spotlight?

  17. Sevco’s investigation shouldn’t take long. Just dig up the report into Green’s connections to Whyte, change the odd word here and there and press [Print].

    How hard can it be?

Perhaps, Livibhoy, it is much more difficult to score regularly in professional football than you seem to imagine? Chelsea, with all their millions, are struggling in that department. As, indeed, are many sides who face packed defences.

  26. An early dip in the ole share price already this morning – maybe people have been reading \mr. English’d piece?

I like to dip into the investors’ forum on the RIFC Share Discussion Board – here’s a couple of wee snippets from this morning.

“However, there is no prospect of making money from investing in this company. You admit yourself a new cash injection is required and, unless someone is willing to simply gift the company the money, then new shares will be issued, resulting in a sharp fall in the share price.”

” Wallace has indeed said the right things however regardless of who is in his role it will be expensive to bring these losses under control. If there are no major cuts in the playing budget by 31 Jan then rangers are looking at another 5/6 months of heavy losses. However, it wont be easy for him to do this as most players are on contracts that are better than they could get elsewhere and wont agree to leave without some sort of pay-off to bridge the gap. That also assumes there are interested parties.”

  27. interesting turn of events with the journalists starting to grow a pair and say it as it is. 1 point that was in the regan article i noted was it finished saying the next time he and wallace speak it may be in an official capacity due to the issuing of a licence for next season and the accounts need to be in order, why do i get the feeling we are being exposed to the start of a campaign of distraction by the journalists now so their accounts slip through uneventually for next years licence issue.

  28. I`ll have to discover Livibhoys solution later. Right now I am heading towards those ` bonny Angus glens ` referred to by Neustadt-Braw above.
