Jozo’s Achilles, McGregor, McGeady, succession for Scott

464

You can be sure Peter Lawwell was not working on contract renewals for Scott Brown, Jozo Simunovic and Callum McGregor last month, as the transfer window reached is climax, but 14 days after it closed, all three have signed new long-term deals.

Scott’s keeps him at the club until he turns 34 in two years. Jozo is contracted to 2021, when he will be 27, while Callum this morning also agreed to stay until 2021, when he will be 28.

Callum is a fascinating case study in player development. After making a substantial impact on the right wing, his form faded, but he has been reborn in central mid. More than anyone else at the club, he has an ability to instantly bring a difficult pass under control. This affords him that valuable commodity: vision.

I’m not going to tell you Callum is as good as the PSG players we saw on Tuesday, but he is the only player we have in the mould of their midfielders. They also fire the ball around with precision and control. Aiden McGeady had this ability in abundance (none of his Celtic contemporaries did). I’d like to have seen the Green Garrincha in a central role.

My sense is that we may have struggled to re-sign Jozo if questions didn’t hang over his knee. His ability is comfortably worth an eight-figure transfer fee and far higher wages than Celtic could afford. The player’s proverbial Achilles heel may bestow long-term stability in Celtic’s defence.

Celtic gambled on signing him two years ago – and let’s not forget the comments pages here were full of angst, as a regional Guardian journalist expressed astonishment that we’d gone for what he viewed as such a limited talent. We are in a place where we need to take a few chances. This one paid off.

I fully expect Scott Brown will sign one more Celtic contract to see him through his mid-30s, when thoughts at the club will turn to succession.

    The Huddle,

Sorry to disagree, but the material that is pumped into the cavities is moisture repellent.

Formerly, it was polystyrene panels that were placed against the inside leaf of the wall, but they had a tendency to move and were very difficult to remain in place.

Also, the biggest cause of outside damp penetration was dirty wall ties, where fallen drops of mortar lay on the ties, thereby bridging the cavity.

Dingwall’s record of dealing with uppity Catholics is pretty impressive. Hardly any survived the Reformation.

I’d recommend Celtic showing Ross County no mercy whatsoever. Let God sort out their tears.

On a Celtic note… first half poor but they got stuck in for a while. I have changed my view and see McGregor as a lynchpin in our team

I watched Question Time there and the politicos are so adept in their rhetoric – no wonder FTSFA think they can get away with it. Bring back Fergus.

Sorry for the delay in getting back. There are plenty of frequent posters who posted material that was more the motivation for my post earlier (Sevco type stuff).

One poster demanded ‘the p***** name’ and talked of him getting ‘a visit’ on the Updates page.

The others know who they are and are either offline or are letting you fight their corner.

Your posts are a bright part of the day, and you are a top poster here. It’s only here that you can have simultaneous posts on North Korea and Cavity Wall Insulation.

Jusy seen your post. My last word on this. No where did I defend the man who invaded the park (and I’ve not seen a defence of his actions from any other posters). I objected to him being hit when he couldn’t defend himself. I’m sure when you were laying people out back in the day that their hands weren’t tied behind their back. That would just make you a bully in my book. I also tried to make it clear that the word ‘boy’ was just a term I used and I could have used guy, bloke or man. I agree that he was old enough to know better.

  19. Good morning, friends and a Big Happy Friday to you all.

Time to start getting excited about our next game which is just under 32 hours away. 3 top strikers in contention and the possibility of Boyata too? Exciting times and a big 4 games coming up in the next 13 days, (and nights ;-) )

  20. There have been a few on here since yesterday who HAVE defended the Chump Invader irrespective of what has been posted and said since….FACT !

    If the Chump was 15/16 etc…I would AGREE that he’s a “Boy/Lad” etc….but he is NOT !

At NO time did I post and/or demand that he be further punished outwith whats about to happen to him ?

Many are assuming he’s a season ticket holder ( was that established in court ?) if yes…then he will lose his seat. If NOT and he was using his mates book…then his MATE has lost his seat !

I think the Sheriff may have just assumed he was a season book holder ( I could be wrong ?).

The Court has still to punish him I believe, what will be will be I suppose, but he has one thing in his favour, no Hun has been jailed for invading a pitch to my knowledge , so his Brief could cite a Precedent in Law ?

However, he also ADMITTED to attempted assault……….that is NOT in his favour obviously.

If he has “previous” …then again any punishment MAY be more severe obviously ? If thats the case then he really is a MAJOR CHUMP, and deserves all thats coming imo.

I have asked questions on here yesterday and NO ONE has has answered those questions, for example ” If ANY Chump is coming at you and/or your family with intent on attacking you….do you stop the assailant by asking what feckin age he is” ?

NO ONE on here answered my “theory” of the BOY who plays for PSG…in other words the proposed VICTIM Mpappe…who I believe is STILL a teenager, who MAY have been scared out of his wits ?

i can assure some on here that over many years I faced attackers on almost a weekly basis in my line of work in the evenings…Ive had 16 year olds ( and older Chumps) coming at me with meat cleavers, knives and other instruments of death, drugged oot of their nappers, with full intent to do me in ( I was nearly a deid club on several occasions)….I didnt take the time to ask their ages before laying them out !

I can safely say that on many occasions I got very lucky….usually because I had my wits about me ?

Now finally ( hopefully ?)…….lets say the Chump invader loses his season book, and the Court gives him a £600 fine and Community Service IF he has no “previous”?

But there’s a major punchline ( no pun intended)….Along come the bold Chumps at UEFA and close down a section of Celtic Park for 1 maybe 2 CL matches IF they take OUR PREVIOUS into consideration ?

In effect this wee “boy/lad” who MAY be treated quite lightly by the Court, and who MAY NOT be a season book holder, so therefore he will have lost very little despite HIS actions, but his brother or his mate has LOST THEIR season book that he was using due to HIS actions, are the ones who would suffer ?

Again, what about the THOUSANDS of decent hard working INNOCENT Celtic supporters who have paid UP FRONT for their CL Package, who IF a section gets closed down by UEFA….Will NOT be able to go to the remaining game(s) because of this Chumps actions ?

This is NOT to forget the damage that this Chump has already caused to Celtics reputation.

i was at Celtic Park for the Rapid game in 1984…the feckin CHUMP who threw that half bottle that night…cost me at least 2 days wages and the expense of going to watch the Celts at Old Trafford, not forgetting the THOUSANDS of INNOCENT Celtic fans who were also out of pocket like myself all because of a feckin Chump who thre the feckin bottle….oh and Celtic go knocked out.. and because of more Chumps ( who were maybe still angry with the FIRST CHUMP at Celtic Park), also caused aggro and Celtic had to play behind closed doors in the next season.

At that time, I dont remember ANY Celtic fan that I knew who enquired about the feckin age of the bottle thrower at Celtic Park..it DIDN’T matter !

i can also advise some on here that for years thereafter, many Celtic fans would STILL have loved to have got their hands on that feckin CHUMP who cost US (Innocenmt Celtic fans) and Celtic FC ….feckin big time !

i can’t be bothered reading back…but a poster on here as good as called me a NAZI….SO In my best Lee Wallace impersonation, I wish to grass him up to the MODS….is that accusation not abuse ?

i may change my moniker to “Big Jimmy Hitler”…then again maybe not ?

    Hail feckin Hail !
