I’ve no affection for Real Madrid but was delighted for them, and Carlo Ancelotti in particular, last night. It’s getting to the stage that it’s impossible to figure out who the best team in Europe actually is.
Bayern Munich’s season has been historic. They swept aside German competitors with record-breaking ease on their way to what looked like them becoming the first team to retain Europe’s top crown in its Champions League format. Real were irresistible. Let’s hope for a Madrid final before the Lions in Lisbon next month.
After yesterday’s blog I heard that more journalistic allies from Anderston Quay have flocked to Dave King’s camp, including that Leggat (sp?) guy, who used to entertain many.
I’ve heard more theories as to what the Sevco board and the group trying to run their club into the ground are planning that I care to remember, but when you look at the team King in particular has pulled together, you would be forgiven for concluding there is no masterplan worthy of the name.
We can’t always judge a man by the company he keeps but we can just a strategy by those who fathered it.
Prediction: King will kill Sevco then fall on his arse. Bump.
Here we Go for 10 In a Row!
Applications for the 10th annual CQN charity golf day, which will take place in Aberdour Golf Club on Friday 4th July, will close this Friday, 2nd May.
As ever it will be oversubscribed so if you would like to attend, email BlantyreKev and Taggsy at cqnopen10IAR@gmx.co.uk before Friday. Cost for the full day’s entertainment including golf is £80. There are a very limited number of non-golfer evening places at £45. Further detail will be released nearer the date and when places confirmed.
Over the course of the season I’ve read lots of comment about the values we should aspire to as a club, specifically when it comes to alleviating poverty, both in our own community, and abroad. CQN’ers responded incredibly to our Malawi school kichen(s) appeal, which dwarfed our work at home.
The Charity Foundation are selling badges (£1 each) before the Dundee United game on 11 May to raise funds to feed the poor and hungry in and around Glasgow. I have volunteered as a coordinator on the day and have offered to help recruit around 100 to sell badges before the game.
This will be trophy presentation day – but the trophy isn’t coming out until after the game, so you’ll not miss any of the flesh-on-silver action.
If you are able to get involved in this initiative, which strikes the core of what we think of ourselves as a Movement, email your details to cfcfvolunteer@celticfc.co.uk .
Thank you.

Wonder who the Lisbon Lions will be supporting?
24th May

Are you headed for the final?
I often wonder when we’ll see Tony Blair being arrested for the murder of all those thousands of innocent Iraqis and Afgans his illegal war was responsible for?

Thanks.
Why do I love seeing that scoreline,
Was talking to a mate today he is 47 so was 7 when we played Athletico that night,he said it is the only time in his life he feared for the safety of celtic players and they reminded him of the long haired man off the McEwans beer cans.
Even he wanted the London Buns humped :)))
Tactical genius Jose may reflect on a misguided substitution.
Hazard ball watching twice.
Clearly when Chelsea have to chase a game they are really quite poor
Without their ultra defensive approach their defence is quite exposed
Bet Liverpool regret playing as open as they did on Sunday …particularly when a draw would have done just find
Wouldn’t fancy Liverpool’s chances against either of the Madrid teams
looks like a victory for “football”
Yessss!

ST MIRREN…1
Reilly 26
CELTIC…2
Fraser 20, Fridjonsson 54
HOLMBERT Fridjonsson’s second-half strike sealed a priceless 2-1 victory for Celtic Under-20s away to St Mirren to keep their hopes alive of a fifth successive title.
The Icelandic striker bulleted home from close range to decide a compelling contest after Thomas Reilly had cancelled out Marcus Fraser’s early header.
And it was well-deserved triumph for Stevie Frail and John Kennedy’s side, who dominated the game after the break and were only denied a bigger margin of victory by the heroics of home goalkeeper Jamie McGowan.
The result leaves the youths two points adrift of Rangers, knowing a victory over their Glasgow rivals next week at Lennoxtown will see them leapfrog the Ibrox side to the league summit.
Frail and Kennedy had made two changes from the team that returned to winning ways against Falkirk last week as Calum Waters and Paul McMullan were restored to the starting XI at the expense of Patrik Twardzik and Denny Johnstone.
Almost straight from the kick off, Lewis Morgan tried his luck from distance for the home side. Leo Fasan wasn’t unduly concerned but it was a sign of their intent.
But the Bhoys soon mounted a reply. A neat passage of play down the right involving John Herron and McMullan saw the former cut-back for Jamie Linsday, whose first-time effort forced Jamie McGowan into a fingertip save.
Celtic had edged the previous encounter between the side 3-2 last month and this was proving to be another fiercely-fought contest, with space at a premium in the early stages.
However, in the 20th minute the young Hoops broke the deadlock. McMullan’s searing pace down the right had been a thorn in the St Mirren backline and another surging run from the winger earned a corner.
Filip Twardzik sent the resultant set-piece towards the far post and Fraser rose highest to guide a header into the corner.
Just six minutes later, however, the Buddies levelled the match. The youths could only partially clear a corner and Reilly capitalised, hooking a shot beyond Fasan’s despairing dive.
Recovering quickly from that setback, the visitors almost retook the lead as the lively Herron burst into the box but McGowan was out quickly to narrow the angle and block his effort.
Jon Scullion threatened with a fizzing free-kick, before Henderson demonstrated his own impressive dead-ball skills, forcing McGowan into two superb saves in quick succession.
Kelleher came within inches of meeting Henderson’s driven corner, and then Scullion drilled a shot wide at the other end following a quick counter, as the game swung from end-to-end towards half-time.
It was a huge 45 minutes for the Bhoys and they burst from the blocks, playing with pace, purpose and desire.
McMullan was continuing to wreak havoc down the right, and his inviting centre was close to being converted by Twardzik. As the hosts failed to clear their lines, Waters then drove forward and found Fridjonsson, who fired wide.
The Saints were struggling to cope with the venom of the young Celts’ attacks and their resistance was broken eight minutes after the interval.
McMullan’s dangerous delivery ricocheted around the box and when the loose ball fell for Fridjonsson he made no mistake, slamming a shot into the top corner.
McManus curled a shot over and McGowan made an outstanding save from Henderson as the Bhoys attempted to kill off the contest. And Fridjonsson was denied a second when his overhead kick from a corner cannoned off the bar.
When the woodwork wasn’t thwarting the visitors, McGowan was proving a formidable barrier between the sticks and the keeper again saved a Henderson free-kick.
Although Celtic were in the ascendancy, the Paisley side remained a threat, and Brady rifled into the side-netting after a lightening counter-attack on the hour mark.
McGowan was having an incredible evening and he saved from McMullan after a fine solo run. He was then felled in the box after collecting a return pass from Fridjonsson. The referee waved away the penalty claims, however.
Despite all of the Bhoys’ pressure, their lead remained slender, and after Reilly had caused a scare with a shot that flashed across goal, they resumed the offensive in search of a third.
However, again, they found McGowan in inspired form as he made a tremendous double save from McMullan and then Twardzik. Kelleher also saw a header cleared off the line as Celtic’s frustration continued.
But they held out comfortably in the closing stages to claim a massive three points in the title race.
CELTIC (4-3-3) Fasan; Herron, Kelleher, Fraser, Waters; Lindsay, McManus, Henderson; McMullan, Fridjonsson, F. Twardzik
Not Used: Donnelly, Hart, Thomson, Breslin, Hendry, McIlduff, Miller

I was merely answering a question and not looking for debate.
It was you that mentioned selling of assets. Now we both know we don’t necessarily need to dispose of assets to clear debts: as often enough, as the hun can confirm, debts backed by assets can remain debts but on the double entry register they can be balanced.
Going back to Huns v Huns game. Hate games like that when you want both teams to get thrashed
Bhoylo – never
Or……has this ever happened?

Unfortunately they will still be there. Even worse (for you – not the rest of us), they won’t move north on the 24th May.
Just ignore them.
Re :U-20s
Thems lead by 2points, and next play Friday at Falkirk – so they can go 5 ahead
They come to Lennoxtown Monday which is their last game
We go to Tannadice next Wednesday

I saw a post this morning from Kojo(?)
He was murmuring about us possibly losing Johnstone to Dundee United.
He, Johnstone not Kojo, was not included today and I guess the Fridge did his big by scoring the winner.
He also hit the bar.
Squire
Huns youth teams seem to be doing reasonably well
I find that quite surprising given that none of the youngsters seem to feature in their senior team…..in the third tier of Scottish football …..also there are some right numpties playing in their senior team
Perhaps another example of Mccoists managerial prowess
